  • These experiments investigated the conditioning pattern and the nitrification efficiency of a fluidized sand biofilter (FSB) for seawater application. The FSB fed artificial nutrient was fully conditioned within 22 weeks. The maximum nitrification efficiency of the FSB was achieved at a superficial water velocity (SWV) of 1.0 cm/sec. After fixing the superficial water velocity at 1.0 cm/sec, the nitrification rates of the FSB were assessed at 3 total ammonia nitrogen (TAN) loading rates (250, 500, 1,000 g TAN/$m^3$/day) and 3 water temperatures (12, 16, $20^{\circ}C$). The TAN concentration in the simulated culture tank ranged from 2.87 to 9.72 mg/L at TAN loading rate of 1,000 g TAN/$m^3$/day, while that ranged from 0.45 to 1.26 mg/L at TAN loading rate of 500 g TAN/$m^3$/day. The ranges of TAN concentration in the former were too high for aquatic organisms and those in the latter were acceptable. Therefore, the safe TAN loading rate for the FSB in seawater conditions was decided as 500 g TA/$m^3$/day. From these results, daily TAN removal rates (g TAN/$m^3$/day) of FSB under conditions of inlet TAN concentration (C, mg/L) and water temperature (T, $^{\circ}C$) were calculated by the following non-linear multi-regression equation: TAN removal rate: f(z)=-1,311.295+655.714LnT+225.775LnC ($r^2=0.962$).

  • In this study, Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber was used to increase strength (unconfined compressive strength and tensile strength) of bio-cemented sand using microorganism. Ottawa sand was mixed with PVA fibers having three fiber contents (0, 0.4, and 0.8%). The fiber mixed sand was treated 14 times by using Microbially Induced Calcite Precipitation (MICP) which included culture (2 times per day) during 7 days to improve its engineering properties. The Bacillus Sporosarcina pasteurrii (Bacillus sp.) was used for urease activity. The specimen was prepared as a cylindrical specimen of 5 cm in diameter and 10 cm in height. Unconfined compressive strength and tensile strength were measured after cementation. Moreover, calcium carbonate content and SEM analyses were performed with a piece of sample. An average value of unconfined compressive strength increased and then slightly decreased but an average value of tensile strength ratio increased with increasing carbonate content the in same condition. Unconfined compressive strength and tensile strength increased about 30% and 160%, respectively. A strength ratio of unconfined compressive strength to tensile strength representing the brittleness decreased from 8 to 4 when fiber content increased from 0.0 to 0.8%. Such bio-cemented sand can be applied into slope area to prevent its shear failure or increase its tensile strength.

  • Changes in density of manila clam, Ruditapes philippinarum to environment, catch and recruitment were studied in a few stations (Seonjae, Seongam, Hwangdo and Padori) in the West coast area of Korea from January, 2007 to December, 2009. Water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen and pH in the study stations were 0.8 to $31.2^{\circ}C$, 22.1 to 33.7 psu, 5.0 to 12.0 mg/L and 7.39 to 8.99, respectively. The concentrations of dissolved inorganic nitrogen, phosphate and silicate were 0.016 to 1.281 mg/L, 0.004 to 0.093 mg/L and 0.016 to 1.617 mg/L, respectively. Chlorophyll-a ranged from 0.2 to 12.1 ${\mu}g/L$, respectively. Substrata were mainly composed of muddy sand and very poorly sorted in Padori, muddy sand and well sorted in Seonjae and Hwangdo, gravelly muddy sand and poorly sorted in Seongam. Density was high in Seonjae and Seongam, but low in Hwangdo and Padori. In clam culture station, in which spat was naturally produced without sowing seedlings, the living density was decreased by increasing of death and a catch of shellfish, and recruitment was changed. Also, Density affected condition factor and shape of clam. Condition factor was the highest in Hwangdo, in which temperature in the winter and chlorophyll-a were high, and was the lowest in Padori. In the shape of clam, the shape in Seongam was a elongated form, but in Padori was a stunted form.

There's two parts to consist of investigation and the model case in wedding business in Junior college. The research groups in one part consist of 277 students in Junior college. The result were as follows: 1) The students would like to get the wedding business in new culture building. (72%) 2) The student shave got a idea to recommend to use the wedding facilities for their for their relative sand friends. (51%) 3) The trend of selecting in wedding facilities is outside than inside of facilities. (75%) 4) They would like to have the buffet service after wedding celemony, not a la carte for choose the meal. The above research data suggest that if the wedding facility's management would be accept, we could have expectation about development of junior college, emphasis of practical education and good wedding culture in this areas. For the most of student, they has a righ hand to manage the wedding facility in their college. First, the culinary students could have an experience of service practies to the customer in wedding celemony, as the result of training will be great. Second, the college could show their vision and hope to customer to interest it. Third, it can be supplied the right wedding culture and the wedding facilities which is low price and good circumstance for wedding. Fourth, it's very resonable to use the culture facilities during no class, Saturday and Sunday. Fifth, income from business can be used only a scholarship and a community development. • This study was conducted to investigate the combination of proper culture medium for differentiation culture of Chrysanthemum zawadskii var. latilobum KITAMURA. The combinations of culture medium were consisted with an inorganic materials such as vermiculite, perlite, saprolite, sand and upland top soil, and with an organic materials such as peat-moss, leaf mold and compost. For the plant growth characteristics, the plant height, number of tiller, root length and root weight in the combination of leaf mold was relatively great as compared to the treatment with peat-moss and compost. It was considered that humus might be contributed to improve the physical properties of soil as well as the sequential nutrient supply. For the combination of peat-moss, the plant growth was not good because of not sufficient nutrient supply, Also, the plant growth in the treatment of compost was so bad because of enhancement of culture medium pH 8.9 and increasement of phosphorous content.

  • A large increase in the use of thin film coating of hydroxyapatite(HA) in implant dentistry is driven by the desire to take advantage of the excellent biocompatibility and high strength of HA coating. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of HA-coated implants by ion Beam Assisted Deposition(IBAD) method in comparison to the sand-blasted and machined surfaces. Osteoblast culture test, removal torque test and histomorphometric analysis were performed and the following results obtained; 1. Examination of the osteoblast cultures displayed no difference in the secretion of alkaline phosphatase between the various specimen, but IBAD with pure HA specimen showed low alkaline phosphatase secretion(p<0.05). 2. Removal torque tests showed HA-coated implants by IBAD method to be similar in high value to the implants with sand-blasted surface than the implants with machined surface. And the ovariectomized group showed low mechanical test value than the normal group(p<0.05). 3. Histomorphometrical comparisons were performed on undecalcified ground sections. HA-coated implants by IBAD method demonstrated the highest mean bone-to-metal contact ratio on all threads and 3-best consecutive threads, and the implants with sand-blasted surface and implants with machined surface was in the next consecutive order(p<0.05). HA-coated implants showed slightly higher bone-to- metal contact ratio than sand-blasted implants, but no statistically significant difference was obtained between the two materials. The ovariectomized group showed lower value of bone-to-metal contact ratio than the normal group, but no statistically significant difference was obtained between the two groups. 4. Evaluation of bone volume on all threads and 3-best consecutive threads showed no statistically significant difference among the different surface treatment groups, but showed lower bone volume in ovariectomized group than in the normal group(p<0.05). According tn these results, thin film coated implants with HA showed high bone contact ratio, bone volume and removal torque strength in the short term, but long term observation is needed.

  • Slow sand filtration was modified and applied for the determination of eliminating efficacy of various fungi and for recommending an easy approach to growers. After 1,500 liter filtration, Fusarium oxysporum was eliminated by several substrates such as activated charcoal (92.5% elimination), silica (90.8%), vermiculite (90.5%), sand (82.3%), perlite (50.4%), and hydroball (21.2%). Silica was able to eliminate several fungi by maximal ratio, which was corresponded to Fusarium oxysporum 120 cfu/mL. Collectotrichum lagenarium 98 cfu/mL. Phytophthora capsici 82 cfu/mL, Botrytis cinerea 62 cfu/mL, Pythium spp. 42 cfu/mL, and Sclerotinia ssp. 52 cfu/mL. In this case, the change of EC was minor and pH was maintained to about 7. In deep flow culture of 'Ddooksum Cheokchookmyeon' lettuce and 'Seokwang' tomato, silica-, activated charcoal-, and vermiculite-based filtration system successfully eliminated Fusarium oxysporum and Phytophthora capsici from the nutrient solution. As a result, these plants were not diseased by ten weeks after inoculation. With this system, growers can easily control the root-zone fungi in the recirculating hydroponic system.
