Quenching phenomena is one of major concern in development of millimeter or sub-millimeter scale micro combustor for the size of the combustor is near extinction condition. In this work we focused on the effect of combustor wall condition that was parameterized by Perovskite LSC($La_{0.8}$$Sr_{0.2}$$CoO_3$) redox catalyst. The experiment was done by variable gap-width 2D wall equipment. The flame was produced by premixed methane-air jet issuing from millimeter-scale slot burner and it propagated through the narrow gap of the walls. By comparison of flame behaviour near catalyst-coated wall and simple glass wall, we investigated the effect of possible surface reaction on quenching phenomena. The flame between two plates was observed where the gap of the plates was reduced stepwise from 20mm to a distance of quenching occurrence. The two flames with and without surface modification were almost same by observation. But the gap for the occurrence of quenching was increased between catalyst-coated wall. So we concluded that surface reaction close to combustor wall has a negative effect on micro combustion.
Purpose : To evaluate the quantitative accuracy of three-dimensional (3D) images by means of comparing distance measurements on the 3D images with direct measurements of dry human skull according to slice thickness and scanning modes. Materials and Mathods : An observer directly measured the distance of 21 line items between 12 orthodontic landmarks on the skull surface using a digital vernier caliper and each was repeated five times. The dry human skull was scanned with a Helical CT with various slice thickness (3, 5, 7 mm) and acquisition modes (Conventional and Helical). The same observer measured corresponding distance of the same items on reconstructed 3D images with the internal program of V-works 4.0/sup TM/(Cybermed Inc., Seoul, Korea). The quantitative accuracy of distance measurements were statistically evaluated with Wilcoxons' two-sample test. Results: 11 line items in Conventional 3 mm, 8 in Helical 3mm, 11 in Conventional 5mm, 10 in Helical 5mm, 5 in Conventional 7mm and 9 in Helical 7mm showed no statistically significant difference. Average difference between direct measurements and measurements on 3D CT images was within 2mm in 19 line items of Conventional 3mm, 20 of Helical 3mm, 15 of Conventional 5mm, 18 of Helical 5mm, II of Conventional 7mm and 16 of Helical 7mm. Conclusion: Considering image quality and patient's exposure time, scanning protocol of Helical 5mm is recommended for 3D image analysis of the skull in CT.
This study is a model analysis for an effective application of the geophysical prospecting to the investigation of geological structures or useful resources, and the purpose of it is to research a property of the electrical resistivity prospecting, especially by using a Three-Point electrode array method. In using the Three-Point electrode array method, it is theoretically assumed to choose the infinite for a distance between the two current electrodes, however it is impossible in applying to the practical field prospecting. Therefore this study was conducted for determination and presentation of a minimum appropriate distance between the two current electrodes by making a study on prospecting effect in the variation of distance between both the electrodes. In case that the ratios of the distance between the two current electrodes to that between the two potential electrodes are respectively chosen for 40, 400, 5,000, the experimental data of this study showed that the minimum appropriate distance between the two current electrodes is forty times as much as that between two potential electrodes. In order to make clear a problem about prospecting depth which is essential to the data processing, it had been chosen equally to the distance between two potential electrodes. As a result of it, it was shown that the anomaly is appeared along the position of an assumed ore body. Consequently it was found out that the prospecting depth of the Three-Point electrode array method is the same as the distance between the two potential electrodes. From the model experiment on the sheeting ore body(or linear structure) of horizontal, dipping of $30^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$ and vertical on the basis of above experimental condition, it was found out that the position and dip of assumed ore body could be inferred from the aspects of the equiresistivity curve. In consequence of performing out the simultaneous Normal and Reversal electrode movement, it was shown that the electrode movement of the Reversal forms the anomaly more clearly than that of Normal when the sheeting ore body is situated obliquely, therefore it could be ascertained that the electrode movement have to be performed simultaneously in the manner of Normal and Reversal. It was also exhibited that the aspect of the equiresistivity curve forms symmetrically when an assumed ore body (or linear structure) is situated horizontally or vertically, that is, symmetrically, and moreover that the aspect of the equiresistivity curve forms unsymmetrically when an assumed ore body (or linear structure) is situated obliquely. On the basis of these experimental analysis it is thought that it can be inferred from the aspect of equiresistivity curve whether an assumed ore body is obliquely situated or not.

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of leg lift difference on serratus and upper trapezius when exercising in a scapula in a prone position, a typical waist stabilization exercise for subjects with a winged scapula. Method: Twenty normal adults and 20 subjects with winged scapula participated in the experiment. The surface EMG recordings were obtained from external oblique muscle and internal oblique muscle during scapula protraction exercise. The presence or absence of winging of the shoulder bone was measured using an electronic digital caliper for the distance the medial border of the scapula is lifted to the rear. In prostrate pier movement posture in both groups, both legs supporting, dominant leg lifting, and non-dominant leg lifting including the scapula protraction were conducted respectively. Results: In the results of comparison between the two groups, the dominant external oblique muscle and the non-dominant internal oblique muscle tended to increase according to the difference of the leg lifting of normal people. In the winged scapula group, internal oblique muscle showed increased muscle activity more than external oblique muscle. Conclusion: It was most effective to exercise with lifting the same position leg for strengthening the same external oblique muscle, and the opposite internal oblique muscle. Also, it is effective to exercise in prone pier movement posture for trunk stability. In addition, internal oblique muscle shows increased muscle activity in subjects with winged scapula. Therefore, appropriate adjustment of external oblique muscle and internal oblique muscle may have a positive effect on scapula dysfunction for trunk stability.

PURPOSE: PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect and examine the feasibility of an intervention of ankle strategy exercise on balance of patients with hemiplegia. METHODS: The subject were randomly allocated to three groups: ankle strategy exercise (group A), balance exercise (group B) and control (group C). Group A was received the conventional physical therapy plus ankle strategy exercises for 20 minutes in one session. Group B was received the same conventional physical therapy plus balance exercises for 20 minutes in one session. Two active groups were performed in the session 3 times a week, for a total of 6 weeks. and Group C was only received the same conventional physical therapy. Balance test was assessed using center of pressure (COP) in the anteroposterior (A-P), mediolateral (M-L) direction, Berg balance scale (BBS) and Timed Up and Go Test (TUG). RESULTS: All groups showed improvements in balance parameters. In especial, the Group A was statistically significant differences in almost part evaluation items and showed more improvements in BBS and TUG parameters than Group B and Group C. and moving distance of M-L COP was more improvements than Group B. CONCLUSION: Ankle strategy exercises had more influence on balance than balance exercises and neurodevelopmental treatment.
We have presented the thermodynamic, structural and dynamic properties of liquid pentane isomers - normal pentane, isopentane, and neopentane - using an expanded collapsed atomic model. The thermodynamic properties show that the intermolecular interactions become weaker as the molecular shape becomes more nearly spherical and the surface area decreases with branching. The structural properties are well predicted from the site-site radial, the average end-to-end distance, and the root-mean-squared radius of gyration distribution func-tions. The dynamic properties are obtained from the time correlation functions - the mean square displacement (MSD), the velocity auto-correlation (VAC), the cosine (CAC), the stress (SAC), the pressure (PAC), and the heat flux auto-correlation (HFAC) functions - of liquid pentane isomers. Two self-diffusion coefficients of liquid pentane isomers calculated from the MSD's via the Einstein equation and the VAC's via the Green-Kubo relation show the same trend but do not coincide with the branching effect on self-diffusion. The rotational re-laxation time of liquid pentane isomers obtained from the CAC's decreases monotonously as branching increases. Two kinds of viscosities of liquid pentane isomers calculated from the SAC and PAC functions via the Green-Kubo relation have the same trend compared with the experimental results. The thermal conductivity calculated from the HFAC increases as branching increases.
The basic idea of cable-stayed girder bridges is the utilization of high strength cables to provide intermediate supports for the bridge girder so that the girder can span a much longer distance. In the cable-stayed bridge, the cables exhibit nonlinear behavior because of the change in sag, due to the dead weight of the cable, which occurs with changing tension in the cable resulting from the movement of the end points of the cable as the bridge is loaded. Techniques required for the static analysis of cable-stayed bridges has been developed by many researchers. However, little work has been done on the dynamic analysis of such structures. To investigate the characteristics of the dynamic response of long-span cable-stayed bridges due to various dynamic loadings likes moving traffic loads. two different 3-D cable-stayed bridge models are considered in this study. Two models are exactly the same in structural configurations but different in finite element discretization. Modal analysis is conducted using the deformed dead-load tangent stiffness matrix. A new concept was presented by using divided a cable into several elements in order to study the effect of the cable vibration (both in-plane and swinging) on the overall bridge dynamics. The result of this study demonstrates the importance of cable vibration on the overall bridge dynamics.
We investigate the performance of multi-body wave energy converters (WECs). This investigation considers multiple scattering of water waves by the buoys of a WEC under the generalized mode approach. Predominantly, the effect of a WEC's configuration on its energy extraction is studied in this research. First, single-row terminator and single-column attenuator arrays of vertical cylinders have been studied. The performance of these attenuator arrays shows that the wall effect induced by the periodic buoys influences the wave propagation and energy extraction in these WECs. Further studies show that a single-row terminator array of vertical cylinders performs better than the corresponding single-column attenuator array. Subsequently, multi-row terminator arrays of vertical cylinders are investigated by conducting a parametric study. This parametric study shows that the hydrodynamic property of three resonance phenomena makes energy extraction efficiency drop down, and the magnitude of energy extracted oscillates between the resonance points in these WECs. Finally, a 4×8 terminator array of vertical cylinders is studied to determine the effect of various dx (x-directional distance between adjacent rows) within this WEC on its performance. In particular, this study enforces at least two equal dx values within the 4×8 terminator array of vertical cylinders. It shows that a small value of this dx leads to better energy extraction efficiency in some of these various dx arrays than that of a corresponding regular array with the same dx.

In this paper, we investigate interference between short-range radiocommunication devices(SRDs) with frequency hopping spread spectrum(FHSS) and direct sequence spread spectrum(DSSS) methods when they are in the same frequency bands. In order to analyze interference from unwanted emission of SRD with DSSS to that of FHSS, Monte-carlo(MC) simulation method is employed and interference probabilities are calculated. We simulate interference scenarios in accordance with several duty cycles and bandwidths. It is also assumed that the propagation model is free space. The effect of distance between interfering transmitter and victim receiver is analyzed and bit error rate(BER) is simulated. From the interference analysis results, it is shown that duty cycle affects compatibility more than band-width does. Also, we can make sure of the separation distance which satisfies BER criterion when there are only one interfering transmitter and multiple interfering transmitters.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to provide supporting data for the clinical use of breathing exercise with a WBV stimulation as a sustained and safe intervention program, by examining the effect of breathing exercise with WBV stimulation on the pulmonary function, gait ability, and life quality in patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), who have difficulty performing exercise. METHODS: For this study, after collecting the samples from 20 patients with severe COPD, they were placed randomly in an experimental group to perform breathing exercises with a WBV stimulation (n = 10) and a control group to perform breathing exercises only (n=10). Before the intervention, pulmonary function, six-minute gait distance, and health-related life quality were measured as pre-tests. After applying the intervention program to the patients for 30 minutes once a day, for four days a week, for six weeks, the post-test items were remeasured in the same way as the pre-tests, and the results were analyzed. RESULTS: In the within-group comparison, both the experimental and control groups showed significant differences in the forced expiratory volume in one second, six-minute gait distance, and health-related life quality (p < .01) (p < .05). In the intergroup comparison, there were significant differences in the forced expiratory volume in one second and the six-minute gait distance (p < .05). CONCLUSION: WBV stimulation was more effective for the patients by improving the muscular strength and muscular endurance through the reflexive contraction of muscles, and increasing the exercise tolerance. This result could serve as an alternative means to clinically improve the physical function of patients with severe COPD, who have difficulty performing breathing exercises in the future.
