Recently the interest in natural dyeing has been increased because of the color clarity, natural grace and reactionism in fashion. Indigo dyeing, safflower dyeing and Gal-ott in Cheju-Do become generally known, so the study about the natural dyeing is continued with national intrust and support. In this study, 1 used artemisia for various dyeing tests because we can get it easily. 1 tested the dyeability in wool as well as cotton and silk with wormwood in natural dyeing material. I also dyed nylon with the same material for the comparison of the molecular structure. The mercerization and the chitosan treatment were done in cotton to improve the low dyeability in the natural dyeing. The result of this study are as follows; We have to dye repeatedly to get deep color in natural dyeing, and mordant treatment brought good result in color difference and dyeing fastness. 1. Compared with silk, wool and nylon, the dyeability of cotton was the worse. The color difference of cotton was 18.81 without mordants , and 24.05 with mordant. The dyeability of cotton was much increased by mordants such as potassiumdichromate, copper sulfate, iron sulfate and salt water. The color of cotton was turned into yellow-green in potassium dichromate and yellow-green with deep green in copper sulfate. The mercerization and the chitosan treatment of cotton made the improvement in color, dyeability, laundering fastness, abrasion fastness. 2. The color difference of silk was 3 times as high as cotton. It showed the similar degree with the chitosan treated-cotton. That is to say, silk had good dyeability because it contains amino group and carboxyl group. The dyebility of silk was increased by a mordant such as iron sulfate, potassium dichromate and salt water, Drycleaning fastness showed 5 grade, abrasion-fastness was high over 4~5 grade and sunlight fastness showed 1 grade in all case. 3. The color difference of wool was the best among four fabrics because of 18 kinds of amino acids. It is considered that the sulfate of wool has the polarity and help metal- mordants get the better dyeability such as potassium dichromate, iron sulfate, copper sulfate, and aluminum chloride. The color was reddish-green in potassium dichromate, yellow.greenin iron sulfate and copper sulfate, and yellow in the rest mordants. Drycleaning fastness of wool showed over 4~5 grade, abrasion fastness 5 grade. Sunlight-fastness 1 grade. 4. The dyeability of nylon was almost same because of the similar molecular structure with silk. The clarity of color was poor. The color was yellow-green in copper sulfate and yellow in the rest mordants. Laundering fastness and abrasion-fastness of nylon was good. Sunlight- fastness represented 1 grade.
To determine the dominant bacterial species during the Saeu-jeotgal ripening process, the cultivable bacterial population was examined over a 135-day period using six different growth media. The greatest numbers of bacteria were identified when marine agar was used for culture, with maximum cell density identified at day 65 (2.51 × 107 colony forming units/g). Over the course of 135 days, the bacterial diversity was analyzed eight times. A total of 467 isolates, comprising 87 species from 42 genera, as well as 16 isolates belonging to previously unknown species, were identified. The number of species detected decreased from 39 at day 1 to 13 at day 135. The order of dominance at the genus level was as follows: Staphylococcus, Salimicrobium, Kocuria, and Psychrobacter. Staphylococcus and Salimicrobium accounted for 2% of the diversity at day 1, and then increased to 39% and 36%, respectively, at day 135. The dominant species Staphylococcus equorum, Salimicrobium salexigens, and Kocuria palustris accounted for 23.6%, 16.1%, and 10.9% of all isolates, respectively. Importantly, both St. equorum and Sm. salexigens remained viable at a NaCl concentration of 21% (w/v), which indicates their strong involvement in the ripening of Saeu-jeotgal.
In this study, chemical characteristics of $PM_{2.5}$ samples collected in an agricultural area in Nonsan of Korea were investigated focusing on of black carbon, 3 inorganic ions and 22 trace elements. It was found that the relative error and relative standard deviation of many trace elements fell below 10%, which indicates good analytical accuracy and precision. The mean values of $PM_{2.5}$ in an agricultural area were exceeded by new Korean air quality standard of March 2018. The concentration of $PM_{2.5}$ was well correlated with those of black carbon and ions. The concentrations of trace elements were in a wide range of seven orders of a magnitude. Based on these $PM_{2.5}$ data sets, a total of 6 sources were identified using PMF (Positive Matrix Factorization; secondary aerosol (34.4%), soil/road dust (20.1%), biomass burning (16.9%), incineration/fuel combustion (13.2%), vehicle exhaust(12.2%), sea-salt (3.17%). Results of our study indicate that it is very important to control illegal burning activities in agricultural area.
Sodium chloride plays an important role as the main condiment at daily meal. It is well known that humans require sodium chloride as an essential nutrient to keep the homeostasis of electrolytes. The amounts of salt intake may be a reflection of geography, culture and food habit rather than necessity. Lee has reported (1962) that Koreans ingest high amounts of sodium chloride in their meals, with an intake of excess carbohydrate (80-90% of total Calories) and low protein in their diet. This includes large amounts of rice, Kimchi and other fermented soybean products common in the Korean diet. This investigation was designed to study the dietary relations of sodium chloride to other nutrients in the Korean diet. Twenty four albino male rats, weighing from 290-300g, were divided into four dietary groups according to the amounts of carbohydrate, protein and fat in the basal diet. Each diet contained a rice powder as a carbohydrate source. Diet I was a control diet, Diet II, low protein, Diet III, low protein and low fat diet and Diet IV, low fat diet. All rats were provided with 3% sodium chloride solution. Diet and salt solution were given ad libitum. The experiment was carried out for 9 weeks during which time the body weight, the food intake, and 3% sodium chloride solution consumption were determined. At the 9th week, the urine was collected the blood sample from the artery of each rat for the analysis of sodium and potassium and other chemical studies. The rats were sacrificed and the kidney, adrenal, liver and spleen were measured, and observed changes of the pathological tissue in the kidney and adrenal. The results were summarized as follows: 1) The growth rate was higher in Diet I than in the other experimental diets (II, III and IV) after 4 weeks. There was no significant difference found between the experimental Diets II, III and IV. 2) The daily food intake was greater in the experimental diets II, III and IV than in the control diet. However, there was no difference among the high carbohydrate diets Diet II, III and IV. 3) The daily water (3% sodium chloride solution) intake was also greater in the Diets II, III and IV, than in the control diet. However, there was no difference between Diets II, III and IV. 4) The concentration of sodium and potassium in the blood were within the normal range in all diets. 5) The amount of sodium chloride in the urine was significantly greater in Diets II, III and IV than in the control diet. Diets II, III, IV had a larger amount of sodium solution consumption. 6) Observation of pathological tissue in the experimental diets found a cell proliferation in the glomerlulus of the kidney, while such change was not found in the control diet.

The effect of ${\gamma}-irradiation$ was investigated on salted and fermented squid, squid jeotkal. Squid jeotkal was prepared with salt concentrations of 5%, 10% and 20% and was fermented at $15^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$ after ${\gamma}-irradiation$ with doses of 0, 2.5, 5 and 10 kGy, respectively. Proximate composition, salinity, water activity (Aw), pH, total bacteria and sensory evaluation were examined during fermentation periods. Results showed that ${\gamma}-irradiation$ had no effect on proximate composition, salinity and Aw compared with non-irradiated squid jeotkal. However, pH and total bacteria, as well as sensory evaluation, were changed variously with processing conditions such as NaCl concentration, irradiation dose and fermentation temperature. The results of total bacteria and sensory evaluation showed that squid jeotkal with NaCl concentration of 10% and an irradiation dose of 10 kGy maintained high quality for 30 days at $15^{\circ}C$. Therefore, it was considered that ${\gamma}-irradiation$ was effective in processing low-salted squid jeotkal and extending its shelf-life without adding any food additives.

Characteristics (salt concentration, weight loss, soluble solid content, moisture content, pH, textural properties) of kakdugi radish cube (kakdugi radish, $2{\times}2{\times}2\;cm$) were evaluated during salting. Five different radish cultivars harvested in autumn were immersed into 10, 15 or 20% brine solution (radish : brine solution = 1 : 2) at $15^{\circ}C$ for 5hrs. The time required to reach the optimum salt concentration (3.0%) was different among cultivars; in the 10% brine solution, 5hr for 'Taeback', 4hr for 'Bakja', 3hr for 'Kwandong' and 'Bakbong', 2hr for 'Bagkwang'. Generally, it was observed that it took shorter salting time at higher concentration of brine solution. While the highest value of weight loss of kakdugi radish cubes was observed with 'Bagkwang', the lowest, 'Taeback'. There was a decrease of pH of kakdugi radish during salting; while 'Bakja' showes little change in pH, 'Bagkwang' shows large decrease of pH. Hardness and fracturability decreased during salting; the highest value of hardness was observed with 'Taeback', the lowest, 'Bagkwang' has the highest moisture content, the lowest soluble solid content and hardness. There was a similarity of characteristics of kakdugi radish cube between two cultivars, 'Taeback' and 'Bakja', as well as 'Bagkwang', and those of 'Kwandong' and 'Bakbong' were between two types of cultivars.
A study was conducted to investigate in vitro micro propagation of four potato cultivars of Daese, Jasim, Chubaek and Haryeng in MS medium and PM medium (a medium containing half concentration of $NH_4NO_3$ and $KNO_3$, two fold concentration of $CaCl_2$ as compared to MS medium). During $1{\sim}2$ weeks of culture, Daese and Jasim showed better shoot elongation on the solid MS medium than Chubaek and Haryeng whereas Chubaek and Haryeng did better shoot elongation on the solid PM medium. But no difference was observed after 4 weeks of culture. As compared to shoot elongation on the solid medium, it was delayed at early stage of culture in the liquid medium without shaking. Shoot formation ratio of potato (above 4 cm of shoot length) began to increase significantly after 1 week of culture and kept on increasing until 4 weeks. The four cultivars showed the different patterns of shoot growth in bioreactor. The PM medium with a quarter salt strength was effective for the regeneration of axillary buds as well as shoot elongation of Jasim and Chubaek. Daese showed vigorous regeneration of axillary buds in the PM medium with a half salt strength. On the other hand, Haryeng showed slower growth than the other three cultivars.
In order to identify probiotic microorganisms, 25 isolates of Lactobacillus sp. were selected from kimchi based on their growth rates, lactic acid production and salt tolerance. The isolate JK-01 was identified as Lactobacillus plantarum by the API kit and 16S rDNA analysis (99.9% of homology), and named as L. plantarum JK-01. The maximum number of L. plantarum JK-01 was reached at 18 hr fermentation in MRS broth and the pH gradually decreased to 4.5. L. plantarum JK-01 showed high enzyme activities for xylanase, amylase, protease, and phytase on MRS agar plates containing each substrate. L. plantarum JK-01 showed high resistance to acidic pH and bile salts, and grew well even at pH 2.0 and 1.0% bile salt. In particular, L. plantarum JK-01 showed high heat stability as shown by $3.3{\times}10^3$ CFU/mL at $60^{\circ}C$. The isolate showed remarkable antimicrobial activity against E. coli in MRS broth based on its disappearance after 18 hr and clear zone formation using a paper disk assay. These results suggest that L. plantarum JK-01 may be probiotic in nature.
In this study, the biochemical characterization of strong proteolytic bacteria and their extracellular pretense isolated from fermented fish paste were experimented for the purpose of industrial large scale-production by accelerated fermentation. The results obtained were as follows: Among 4 strains isolated from fermented fish paste, B. subtilis p-4 and B. licheniformis p-5, which grow well at $40^{\circ}C$, pH 7.0 and $1\%$ of salt contents, were the best proteolytic bacteria and were shown $0.48hr^{-1}$, $0.49hr^{-1}$ of specific growth rate in TPY medium, respectively. Maximum enzyme activity of B. subtilis p-4 was 335n mole-Tyr/min.ml after 30 hrs and that of B. licheniformis p-5 was 300n mole-Tyr/min.ml after 28 hrs of shaking culture. Purified pretense produced by B. subtilis p-4 and B. licheniformis p-5 showed maximum activity at $50^{\circ}C$, pH 7.0 and molecular weight were estimated to be 18,000, 30,000 by sephadex G-100 gel filtration, respectively. These were supposed to be a kind of metal chelator sensitive neutral pretense from the result of high sensitivity against EDTA, o-phe-nanthroline and metal ions such as $Cu^{2+},\;Ni^{2+},\;Zn{2+}$.
Maintenance of an optimal air quality in the enclosed pig building is potentially important in terms of pig performance and farmer health. The objective of this on-site experiment is to evaluate and compare efficiencies of currently utilized biological additives to reduce odor emissions from the enclosed pig building. As a result, generally all the additives except for salt water, artificial spice and essential oil were proved ineffective in reducing odor generation. The beneficial effects of salt water, artificial spice and essential oil on odor reduction were highlighted on ammonia, odor intensity and offensiveness, and sulfuric odorous compounds, respectively. To efficiently utilize odor masking agent such as the artificial spice, ventilation rate should keep slightly lower than the optimal level. Essential oil functioned well as not only masking agent but also antimicrobial agent for reducing odor. To precisely quantify odor concentration, it should be measured by not the odor sensor but the olfactometry technique.
