The chemical conversion coating formed on magnesium alloy investigated for low cost and harmless in environment by using the colloidal silica as the main component. The film formed in 298 K is thick, the film, which was thought combination of Si-O, was formed. The film formed in 313 K is thinner than that in 298 K. The quantity of film formed at high temperature such as 333 K and 353 K is smaller than dissolved quantity. At the anodic polarization experiment, corrosion resistance in sealing by hot water after chemical conversion treatment in basic solution condition get worse than that in comparison with basic solution condition. In salt spray test, the ratio of black rust on specimen that did not conducted chemical conversion treatment was five times or more compared with those of chemical conversion treated specimen. The film thickness of chemical conversion coating produced by alkali treatment process is thinner than in comparison with that of specimen produced in basic chemical conversion treatment solution condition. It is thought, however, that it showed good corrosion resistance during salt spray test because the area of microcracks is small.

As the demand of electric power is increasing rapidly, the need of the compact and light electric power device is also increased. Copper clad aluminum (CCA) is newly proposed electrical conductor, because of its light-weight and low-cost characteristics, to replace the existing conductor made of copper. This paper presents the salt-proof characteristics of the copper clad aluminum (CCA) to certificate long time safe operation of the newly proposed electrical conductor. The two types of the CCA conductor were tested in the neutral salt spray tester. The experimental results of two types of the CCA with salt spray were presented in this paper. The results comprise resistance measured data, micro picture of the selected surface, and component measured data according to the elapsed time. The period of the experiment was 1,000 hours. There was no evidence to show the corrosion of CCA during the whole period of the experiments.
The effect of low tempering in a temperature range of $150{\sim}400^{\circ}C$ on corrosion resistance in 420J2 stainless steel austenitized at $1000^{\circ}C$ was investigated by the application of salt spray test, electrochemical pitting test in 3.5% NaCl solution and DL-EPR test for intergranular corrosion in 0.5M $H_2SO_4$+0.01M KSCN solution. In salt spray test, good corrosion resistance was obtained in a tempering temperature range of $150{\sim}250^{\circ}C$. Pitting potential was increased to the tempering temperature of $250^{\circ}C$, but decreased with the increase of temperature up to $400^{\circ}C$ And it was thought that the degradation of pitting corrosion resistance showed at the tempering temperature of around $400^{\circ}C$ was due to the precipitation of $Cr_7C_3$ of $M_7C_3$ type. The degree of sensitization showed increasing tendency with the increase of tempering temperature, and also Cr depletion phenomena were observed in the vicinity of grain boundary.
The demand for cold rolled steel (CR) for structural members is gradually increasing. If no surface treatment (coating for corrosion resistance) for CR is conducted, its use is very limited because CR is vulnerable to corrosion. Therefore, we need to develop a coating solution to provide high corrosion resistance for CR. In this study, an organic/inorganic coating solution with Si and Ti (Si polysilicate 7 wt.% + Urethane 13 wt.% + Ti amorphous 0.5 wt.%; LR-0727(1)) was used to evaluate the corrosion resistance of CR under a salt spray test. The specimens with the LR-0727(1) coating were heat treated in a drying oven at $120{\sim}210^{\circ}C$for 5 min. The corrosion resistance was investigated using a salt spray test of 7 h. In addition, an adhesive test was conducted. Rust showed under a heat treatment of $150^{\circ}C$, but no vestiges were found over $160^{\circ}C$. The specimens with heat treatment at $160^{\circ}C$ or more did not experience delamination. From these results, it is considered that the temperature limit for optimum heat treatment is $160^{\circ}C$ considering energy efficiency.

This article reports improved corrosion resistance and adhesion of electro-paint (E-paint) with fluoride conversion coating (FCC) on AZ31 Mg alloy for the first time. These improvements were observed in comparison to chemically polished samples with no chemical conversion coating and samples with cerium conversion coatings (CeCC). FCCs were prepared in a hydrofluoric acid (HF) solution for four different times; 10, 30, 60, and 120 s. The colour of the samples changed from light gold to brown with increasing immersion time, indicating the formation of thicker FCC coatings with increasing immersion time. The adhesion of the E-paint on FCC-coated AZ31 Mg alloy was tested after 500 h of immersion in deionized (DI) water. Salt spray test (SST) results revealed delamination of E-paint on the chemically polished sample, severe blistering on the samples with CeCC, but no delamination and no blistering on the samples with FCC.
The plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process is a relatively new surface treatment technique that produces a chemically stable and environment-friendly electrolytic coating that can be applied to all types of magnesium alloys. In this study, the characteristics of oxide film were examined after coating the extruded AZ31 alloy through the PEO process. Hard ceramic coatings were obtained on the AZ31 alloy by changing the coating time from 10min to 60min. The morphologies of the surface and the cross-section of the PEO coatings were examined by scanning electron microscopy and optical microscopy, and the thickness of the coating was measured. The X-ray diffraction pattern of the coating shows that the coated layer consists mainly of the MgO and $Mg_2SiO_4$ phases after the oxidation reaction. The hardness of the coated AZ31 alloy increased with increasing coating time. In addition, the corrosion rates of the coated and uncoated AZ31 alloys were examined by salt spray tests according to ASTM B 117 and the results show that the corrosion resistance of the coated AZ31 alloy was superior to that of the un-coated AZ31 alloy.
The cold-rolled steel sheet for automobile is liable to corrosion, and will be painting in a variety of ways for the anticorrosive. This paper was coated on cold rolled steel (SPCC and SPFC590) for automobiles using five kinds of organic/inorganic hybrid solution. This was evaluated corrosion resistance and so on by the salt spray. Corrosion area was less according to increasing of curing time in 2 types of steel plate with 5 types of the coating solution. No.1 solution was showed the best corrosion resistance regardless of the kinds of the steel sheet. It is judged that the melamin hardner had the role of bridge between $SiO_2$ polysilicate and urethan resin. Other properties were excellent in all solution.
Austenitic stainless steels generally experience the occurrence of chromium-depleted zones at the boundaries, known as sensitization, caused by the carbide precipitation that takes place due to a welding process or heat treatment. Normally, the depleted zones become the focus of the intense corrosion. In this study, the Cr-free organic/inorganic hybrid solution was developed, and the artificially degraded STS316S and STS347H with the solution-coating investigated the corrosion resistance by salt spray test. Both the OIBD-1 and OIBD-2 solutions improved the corrosion resistance of STS310S and STS347H. The corrosion resistance with the OIBD-1 solution was better than that of OIBD-2 solution. Additionally, Both solutions have been proven excellence in adhesion ability, boiling water resistance and flexibility. However, a problem of rubbing after the boiling was found out to be overcome.
The electrolytic reduction of spent oxide fuel involves the liberation of oxygen in a molten LiCl electrolyte, which results in a chemically aggressive environment that is too corrosive for typical structural materials. It is essential to choose the optimum material for the process equipment handling molten salt. IN713LC is one of the candidate materials proposed for application in electrolytic reduction process. In this study, yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) top coat was applied to a surface of IN713LC with an aluminized metallic bond coat by an optimized plasma spray process, and were investigated the corrosion behavior at $675^{\circ}C$ for 216 hours in the molten salt $LiCl-Li_2O$ under an oxidizing atmosphere. The as-coated and tested specimens were examined by OM, SEM/EDS and XRD, respectively. The bare superalloy reveals obvious weight loss, and the corrosion layer formed on the surface of the bare superalloy was spalled due to the rapid scale growth and thermal stress. The top coatings showed a much better hot-corrosion resistance in the presence of $LiCl-Li_2O$ molten salt when compared to those of the uncoated superalloy and the aluminized bond coatings. These coatings have been found to be beneficial for increasing to the hot-corrosion resistance of the structural materials for handling high temperature lithium molten salts.
Electrochemical study on cut edge corrosion of prepainted Zn coated (GI) and 55%Al-Zn coated (GL) steels has been performed in wet-dry cyclic conditions. Maximum width of delaminated polymer coating from the cut edge for GI and GL specimens was evaluated under wet-dry cyclic conditions. The cyclic tests were carried out for 1000 h by changing of relative humidity, where the salt of NaCl was deposited on the specimen every 48 h. The cut edge corrosion test under NaCl deposit indicated that the delamination of the GL specimen progresses at a higher rate than the GI. The electrochemical corrosion monitoring was also performed under condition of alternate exposure to immersion in NaCl solution and drying at 60%RH and $25^{\circ}C$. On the basis of the results of the delamination tests and electrochemical measurements, the mechanism of cut edge corrosion for GI and GL were discussed.
