  • Lactobacillus casei YIT 9018 was microencapsulated within alginate or alginate/chitosan double membrane using an air atomizer. Microbiological analysis revealed that the viability of encapsulated L. casei in gastric juice, hydrogen peroxide, and pepsin was 2-3 log cycle higher than that of the nonencapsulated cell. However, the encapsulated cells did not show a signifciant increase in survival when subjected to in virto high acid and 0.6% bile salt condition. Alginate-encapsulated, alginate/chitosan-encapsulated, and nonencapsulated cells were stored at different temperatures eencapsulated cells showed similar stability at $4^{\circ}C$. However, at $22^{\circ}C$, the alginate/chitosan-encapsulted cell was the most stable.

  • The properties of concrete produced by ready mixed concrete company in Busan were measured. Because the concrete was mixed with blast furnace slag and fly ash etc., the compressive, tensile strength and chloride ion diffusion coefficient were lower than OPC concrete even though the specified concrete strength was same. If the durability about salt attack were satisfied, the concrete of lower specified concrete strength would be adopted to concrete mixing design. FEM analysis was carried out to predict the life time expectancy.

  • The increased interest in reducing the environmental effects caused by releasing organic compounds and aqueous waste has motivated the development of polymeric materials in supercritical fluids. Recently, supercritical fluids have been used in material synthesis and processing because of their special properties, such as high diffusivity, low viscosity, and low surface tension. Supercritical carbon dioxide is the most attractive because it is non-toxic, non-flammable, and has moderate critical temperature and critical pressure values. Supercritical carbon dioxide can also swell most polymers. In this study, we prepared polymer/clay nanocomposites using supercritical fluids. Cloisites 10A, 15A, 25A, and 30B used in this study are montmorillonites modified with a quaternary ammonium salt. The nanocomposites of polymer/clay were characterized by X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry.

  • This paper introduces method to estimate pollutant negative influence to polymer type insulator according to the international standard. To accomplish this goal, effective sample collecting method was surface was collected directly with the same dimension. Distilled Through this method pollute is easily and accurately collected. The second step is pollutant analysis. Several analyze item is selected such as quantity, conductivity, contact angle, Optical Microscope(OM), IR spectrometer(FT-IR), Equivalent Salt Deposit Density(ESDD), Thermal Analyzer(TA) and ICP-AES. The third step, best represent tunnel was selected considering location, length and natural surroundings. Also to consider the difference at inside the tunnel, several bracket insulators were selected along to the location. To make the result precise, above procedure was repeated several times at the same target. Finally relation among type of train, numbers of movement, surroundings, length will be considered in combination with the pollution. With this result pollute map for KORAIL could be accomplished and inspect period will be optimized case by case.

  • In a previous study, we showed that Cecropin A (1-8)-Magainin 2 (1-12) hybrid peptide (CA-MA)'s analogue, Anal P5, exhibit broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity. Anal P5, designed by flexible region (positions 9, 10)-substitution, Lys- (positions 4, 8, 14, 15) and Leu- (positions 5, 6, 12, 13, 16, 17, 20) substitutions, showed an enhanced antimicrobial and antitumor activity without hemolysis. The primary objective of the present study was to gain insight into the relevant mechanisms of antimicrobial activities of Anal P5 by using flow cytometric analysis. Anal P5 exhibits strong antifungal activity in a salt concentration independent manner. In addition, Anal P5 causes significant morphological alterations of the bacterial surfaces as shown by scanning electron microscopy, supporting its antibacterial activity. Its potent antibiotic activity suggests that Anal P5 is an excellent candidate as a lead compound for the development of novel antibiotic agents.

  • A new method based on solid phase microextraction(SPME), coupled with GC/FID, has been developed for the determination of PCE and TCE in water samples. The experimental parameters affecting the SPME process (i.e, kinds of fibers, extraction time, desorption time, extraction temperature, volume ratio of sample to headspace, salt addition, and magnetic stirring) were optimized. The coefficients of determination ($R^2$) for PCE and TCE were 0.9951 and 0.9831, respectively when analytes concentration ranges from 10 to 300$\mu$g/L. The relative standard deviations were 3.4 and $2.1\%$ for concentration of 10$\mu$g/L(n=5), respectively. The detection limits of PCE and TCE were 0.5 and l.3$\mu$g/L, respectively.

  • In this paper, we investigated a dust pollution and spot survey of electrical installation in vulnerable area. From the survey results, we know that the dust was easily accumulated in cabinet panel because the cabinet panel cover was opened and the management of installation was not good. Although the dust pollution was not difference, the possibility of accident become increased by dust in salt area. Thus, it is necessary to variation of cabinet panel shape to prevention of electrical disaster in dust occurrence and another protection devices.

  • Two initial models of cold-adapted lipase PsLip1 have been constructed, based on homology with the bacterial lipases Chromobacterium viscosum (CvLip) and Pseudomonas cepacia (PcLip), whose X-ray structures have been solved and refined to high resolution. The mature polypeptide chains of these lipases have 84% similarity. The models of Mod1 and Mod2 have been compared with the tertiary structures of CvLip and PcLip, respectively, and analyzed in terms of stabilizing interactions. Several structural aspects that are believed to contribute to protein stability have been compared: the number of conserved salt bridges, aromatic interactions, hydrogen bonds, helix capping, and disulfide bridges. The 3-dimensional structural model of PsLip1 has been constructed in order to elucidate the structural reasons for the decreased thermostability of the enzyme in comparison with its mesophilic counterparts.

  • This paper reports the contamination performance of two distribution arresters (new and used ones) tested under three different contaminant conditions - clean fog, ESDD (equivalent salt deposit density) level (A, B, C, and D), and kaolin contamination conditions, and their leakage current, total leakage current, and component of the resistive leakage current were measured in order to diagnose arrester deterioration. The 3rd harmonics was larger than 5th and 7th ones for the arrester under the clean fog, and as the ESDD contamination level was applied, 5th one became relatively larger than 3rd one. Therefore, these results indicated that the resistive leakage current could be used for the diagnosis of the arresters.

  • Recently polymer arresters are being used widely but we don't have appropriate long term characteristics test methods. Therefore we need to develop special test facility to evaluate long term reliability of polymer arresters. It's polymeric housing can be degraded by environmental stress and the interface between housing and inner module can be affected by moisture absorption. This moisture absorption can cause leakage current and tracking in the interface. We developed multi stress accelerated ageing test facility to simulate field conditions including UV, temperature, humidity, voltage, salt fog and rain. In addition, we carried out field exposure test at the outdoor test yard and characteristics analysis of field operated specimens to evaluate accelerating factor of this accelerated aging test.
