이온크로마토그래피를 이용한 소금물중의 무기음이온들의 분리정량 (Determination of Some Inorganic Anions in Saline Water by Ion Chromatography with UV Detection)

  • 자외선검출법과 이온크로마토그래피를 이용하여 소금물 중에 함유하는 몇 가지 음이온의 분리정량에 대하여 검토하였다. 분리관은 음이온교환수지(Dionex, AS7)를 사용하였고 용리액으로서는 sodium chloride/sodium phosphate 완충용액을 사용하였다. 단계적용리법을 적용하므로서 최적분리가 가능하였으며 8가지 음이온(iodate, bromate, nitrite, bromide, nitrate, chromate, iodide와 thiocyanate)이 40분내에 분리되었다. 여러 가지 농도의 NaCl용액(0.0 M-1.0 M)속에 존재하는 음이온들의 거동을 살펴보았다. NaCl의 농도가 진할수록 bromate, nitrite, bromide와 nitrate의 피크의 모양이 점점 넓어졌으나 chromate, iodide와 thiocyanate는 1.0 M NaCl 용액의 농도까지 피크모양이 거의 변하지 않았다. 또한 여러 가지 농도의 NaCl용액에서 음이온들의 검량곡선은 좋은 직선성을 보여주었으며, $50{\mu}L$ 시료용액에서 검출한계는 $10-720{\mu}g/L$ 이었다. 바닷물중의 bromide, nitrate와 iodide의 측정에 이방법을 적용하였다.

혈장 삼투질 농도 변동에 따른 항이뇨 호르몬과 Aldosterone 분비조절 : 한국청년 (Role of Plasma Osmolality in AVP and Aldosterone Release in Korean Young Men)

  • A study was carried out to find out the relationship between arginine vasopressin (AVP) release and plasma osmolality in 15 young men (age: 21.4 yr). After an overnight fasting, wale. (20 ml/kg) was imbibed, and venous blood and urine samples were collected every 30 min for 90 min. then 5% saline was infused (0.06 ml/min/kg) for 120 min. AVP was extracted on Sep-Pak column and measured by radioimmunoassay. Under basal condition, plasma osmolality (pOsm), AVP (pAVP) and aldosterone (pAldo) levels were 286.5 mOsm/kg, 1.1 pg/ml, and 140 pg/ml, respectively. pAVP became undetectable during maximum water diuresis, and increased in response to hypertonic saline infusion. pAVP level began to increase when pOsm was above 280 mOsm/kg. Changes in urinary AVP excretion (uAVP) was parallel to pAVP levels. The fall in pAVP was followed by a decrease in uAVP, uOsm and an increase in free water clearance, while the later rise in pAVP was followed by an increase in uAVP, uOsm and a decrease in free water clearance. When pooling all data together, relationships between pAVP and pOsm, and uAVP and uOsm were best expressed by an exponential relationship (r=0.78, 0.86, respectively). pAldo level decreased to 71 pg/ml after water ingestion, and decreased further to 30 pg/ml 2 hr after 5% saline infusion. Even at the same pNa, pAldo level during dehydration state was significantly higher than during hydration state. Negative exponential relation (r=-0.59) was observed between pAldo and pNa. Response to change in body fluid volume was greater in aldosterone than in AVP release.

Effect of Salt Level in Water on Feed Intake and Growth Rate of Red and Fallow Weaner Deer

  • Under a typical Mediterranean environment in southern Australia, the evaporation rate increases significantly in hot summers, resulting in highly saline drinking water for grazing animals. Also in the cropping areas, dryland salinity is a problem. Grazing animals under these environments can ingest excessive amount of salt from feed, drinking water and soil, which can lead to a reduction in growth rate. To understand the impact of high salt intake on grazing deer, two experiments were conducted to assess the effect of salt levels in drinking water on feed intake and growth rate of red and fallow weaner deer. The results revealed that fallow deer did not show any abnormal behaviour or sickness when salt level in drinking water was increased from 0% to 2.5%. Feed intake was not affected until the salt content in water exceeded 1.5%. Body weight gain was not affected by 1.2% salt in drinking water, but was reduced as salt content in water increased. Compared with deer on fresh water, the feed intake of red deer on saline water was 11-13% lower when salt level in drinking water was 0.4-0.8%. An increase in salt level in water up to 1% resulted in about a 30% reduction in feed intake (p<0.01). Body weight gain was significantly (p=0.004) reduced when salt level reached 1.2%. The deer on 1% salt tended to have a higher (p=0.052) osmotic pressure in serum. The concentration of P, K, Mg and S in serum was affected when salt level in water was over 1.0%. The results suggested that the salt level in drinking water should be lower than 1.2% for fallow weaner deer and 0.8% for red weaner deer to avoid any reduction in feed intake. Deer farmers need to regularly test the salt levels in drinking water on their farms to ensure that the salt intake of grazing deer is not over the levels that deer can tolerate.

Application of optimized time domain reflectometry probe for estimating contaminants in saline soil

  • Monitoring contaminants in waste landfills on a seabed is important because the leachate affects the marine ecosystem and facility stability. The objective of this study is to optimize a time-domain reflectometry (TDR) probe using different coating materials and several electrodes to estimate contaminants in saline soil. Copper concentrations ranging from 0 mg/L to 10 mg/L were mixed in 3% salinity water to simulate contaminants in the ocean environment. Epoxy, top-coat, and varnish were used as coating materials, and two to seven electrodes were prepared to vary the number and arrangement of the electrodes. Test results showed that the varnish stably captured the increase in copper concentration, while the other coating materials became insensitive or caused leakage current. In addition, a TDR probe with more electrodes exhibited stable and distinct electromagnetic signals. Thus, the TDR probe with seven electrodes coated with varnish was effectively used to estimate contaminants in saline soil.

염수로 충진된 낙동강 델타지역 피압대수층에서 담수주입에 의한 염수치환 연구 (Replacement of Saline Water through Injecting Fresh Water into a Confined Saline Aquifer at the Nakdong River Delta Area)

  • 염수로 충진된 부산시 낙동강 델타지역에 염수오염을 방지하고 지하수자원을 확보할 수 있는 인공함양 실증시설의 구축을 목적으로, 고심도 피압대수층에 담수 주입시험을 실시하였다. 연구지역은 두꺼운(두께 10~21 m) 점토층이 가압층으로 분포하며, 두꺼운 하부모래층(두께 31.5~36.5 m)과 자갈층(두께 2.8~11 m)이 주대수층을 이루는 피압대수층을 형성하고 있다. 시험 전 실시한 전기전도도(EC) 검층결과 연구지역은 약 7~44 mS/cm의 EC 분포를 보이며, 15~38 m 사이에 담수와 염수의 전이대가 존재하였다. 수온은 5 m 심도까지는 10~15.5℃이었으나, 5 m 심도부터는 15.5℃에서 50 m 심도까지 17℃로 일정하게 증가하고 있었다. 담수 주입시험에서 총 62시간 동안 370 m3/day의 주입유량으로 약 950 m3의 담수가 주입되었으며, 주입공 OW-5의 40 m 심도에서 CTD Diver를 이용하여 담수체의 형성을 확인하였다. 주입 후 EC 및 온도 검층을 통해 주입된 담수체가 24시간 이상 유지되는 것을 확인하였고, 21일 경과 후 실시한 검층에서도 담수체의 존속이 확인되었다. 또한 OW-5공 주입시험보다 20일전에 실시된 1차 주입시험 주입공 OW-2에서도 아직 담수체의 영향이 남아있는 것으로 확인되었다. 그리고 OW-2와 5에 주입된 담수와 염수의 관계는 점이적이 아닌 뚜렷한 경계(Sharp Boundary)를 이루고 있었다. 따라서 주입된 담수가 염수 내에서 일정한 공간을 차지하며, 원상태의 수질을 상당기간 유지할 수 있다는 것을 파악하였다. 향후 인공함양 시설을 구축하여 장기적인 담수 주입을 통해 이 델타지역에 담수체를 형성시키는 실증연구를 수행한다면, 염수로 오염된 해안대수층을 대체수자원 확보의 공간으로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

A study of analgesic effect of Zanthoxylum bungeanum Maxim pharmacopuncture

  • Objectives : This study was carried out to evaluate analgesic effects of Zanthoxylum bungeanum Maxim (ZM) pharmacopuncture on formalin-induced pains in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats and ICR-mice. Methods : The subjects were divided 8 weeks aged rats with constant pain sensitivity into five groups; normal (treated with normal saline at Taegye (KI3) and before injected with normal saline at hindpaw), Con-1 (treated with normal saline at KI3 before injected with formalin at hindpaw), Lido-1 (treated with lidocaine at KI3), ZMWG-1 (treated with Hot water extraction pharmacopuncture of Zanthoxylum bungeanum Maxim at KI3), ZMEG-1 (treated with ethanol extraction pharmacopuncture of Zanthoxylum bungeanum Maxim at KI3). After 35 minutes, we measured ultrasonic vocalization (USV) and enzyme activities of both Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) in rat serum. In addition, Tail flick test is performed by injecting ICR mice at 5 weeks of age. And it classified into 4 groups (Con-2, Lido-2, ZMWG-2, ZMEG-2) according to the kind of drug (normal saline, lidocaine, ZMW, ZME). After each drug injection, we examined the reaction by placing the tail in water at $50^{\circ}C$. Results : ZME had analgesic effects in the early and late phase of USV during the formalin test. There were no significant differences between ZMEG-1 and Lido-1 in early and late phase of USV. Also, No significant differences observed in serum AST and ALT activity in ZMWG-1 and ZMEG-1 compared with Con-1. For tail-flick test, analgesic effect on warmth significantly increased in Lido-2 and ZMEG-2 compare to that of Con-2. Conclusion : ZME pharmacopuncture had analgesic effects on formalin-induced pain without liver toxicity. Also, tail-flick test suggest that ZME pharmacopuncture could be useful technique on analgesic effect on warmth and treatment of pains.

양식장 용수 추가 확보를 위한 수압파쇄 적용성 평가 (Feasibility of Hydraulic Fracturing for Securing Additional Saline Groundwater in the Land-based Aquaculture Farm)

  • Feasibility tests for the hydraulic fracturing were conducted in order to secure additional saline groundwater for irrigating to the land-based aquaculture farm. Two boreholes were placed to the aquaculture farm A and B, respectively. A hydraulic fracturing using single packer was applied to major fracture zones within two boreholes. To identify effects of hydraulic fracturing on securing additional saline groundwater, some selective methods including well logging methods, pumping tests, and groundwater quality analysis were commonly applied to the boreholes before and after the hydraulic fracturing. Enlarging/creating fracture zones, increasing water contents in bedrock near boreholes, and increasing transmissivity were observed after the hydraulic fracturing. Even though the hydraulic fracturing could be an alternative to secure additional saline groundwater to the land-based aquaculture farm, salinity of the groundwater did not meet optimal thresholds for each fingerling in two farms: Fresh submarine groundwater discharge flowed the more into borehole of the farm A that resulted in decreasing a salinity value. Increased saline groundwater quantity in the borehole of the farm B rarely affect to the salinity. Although salinity problem of groundwater limited its direct use for the farms, the mixing with seawater could be effectively used for the fingerlings during the early stage. A horizontal radial collector well placed in the alluvial layer could be an alternative for the farms as well.

Iodine-131 체내오염 사고에 대한 항갑상선제의 효과 (Effects of Antithyroid Drugs on Accidentally Internal Contamination of Iodine-131)

  • In case of occuring the atomic energy accidents the proper medical treatments should be necessary. As the aim of the basic data for protective actions, the present studies were carried out to evaluate the decontamination of radioiodine by the administration of the antithyroid drugs (KI, NaI) and isotonic saline. Some recommended methods of decorporating radioiodine were investigated using 450, NIH-GP mice, each injected intraperitoneally with $1{\mu}Ci$ of $NaI^{131}$ as the internal contamination and treated with 2mg/0.2ml-saline of NaI and 2.6mg/0.2ml-saline of KI as the antithyroid drugs. Accordingly, effects of antithyroid drugs for internal contamination were: 1. Administration of NaI and KI caused to rapidly excrete internal radioiodine as the antithyroid drugs and decrease in whole body retention was reduced than in the saline group. 2. After internal contamination NaI and KI were to be administered for radioprotective effects as quickly as possible. 3. Decrease in body-retention made temporary shifts with enough fluids (water), however, as far as radioprotective effects is concerned, saline was not more significant than in the other group (NaI and KI). 4. Regarding to thyroid protective effects NaI, KI and saline were significant in effectively order.

치아재식술 시 근관충전재로 사용된 수산화칼슘 제재의 치근단 조직 반응 및 치근 흡수의 평가 (PERIAPICAL TISSUE REACTION AND ROOT RESORPTION FOLLOWING REPLANTATION WITH DIFFERENT CALCIUM HYDROXIDE PASTES IN RAT)

  • Calcium hydroxide pastes is widely used in conventional endodontics. Along with the expanded clinical use of calcium hydroxide, literatures suggest mixing calcium hydroxide with other substance. Among added substances the vehicle plays the most importance role in the overall process because it is directly related with the velocity of ionic dissociation of $Ca^{2+}$ and OH ion. In this study, we evalutated and compared periapical tissue response and root resorption after canal was filled with mixture of saline and calcium hydroxide(Junsei Chemical Co.. Japan) as a aqueous vehicle, Metapaste(Meta Co., Korea) as a viscous vehicle paste, Vitapex(Neo Dental, Japan) as a oily vehicle paste and IRM(Caulk Dentsply, USA) in replantation of rat molar. A total of 31 maxillary first molars of Sprague-Dawley female rats, 30 days old were used. The upper 1st molar was extracted and the mesiobuccal canal was filled with mixture of saline and calcium hydroxide, Metapaste, Vitapex. IRM and then replanted. Rats were sacrificed 3 weeks after replantation. the maxillae were removed. section of 4 micron were cut and stained with hematoxylin-eosin, Apical tissue response were observed under light microscope. The results were as follows: 1. Saline mixing group and Metapaste group were significant different in fibrous capsule width compared to Vitapex group and IRM group(P<0.05). 2. Saline mixing group. Metapaste group. Vitapex group and IRM group did not prevent root resorption and there were no statistical difference. 3. In saline mixing group and Metapaste group. loss of pastes were observed in all samples. From the results of our study. we observed loss of pastes in saline mixing group and Metapaste group because of water soluble property and assumed it was related to inflammation in apical area and sealing ability of material. So, we should study and develop calcium hydroxide vehicle which is easily removed and more stable and because of only 3 weeks observation we need more evaluation in long period.

2005년 7-8월에 관측한 북동태평양 $131.5^{\circ}W$의 해수특성 및 해양구조 (Hydrographic Structure Along $131.5^{\circ}W$ in the Northeastern Pacific in July-August 2005)

  • 북동태평양 열대 해양의 해수특성과 해양구조를 파악하기 위하여 2005년 7-8월에 $131.5^{\circ}W$ 관측선에서 관측한 CTD 자료를 분석하였다. 또한 적도 부근 태평양의 해수특성을 전반적으로 이해하기 위하여 서태평양 $137^{\circ}-142^{\circ}E$에서의 CTD 자료도 분석하여 동태평양의 분석 결과와 비교하였다. 여름철 동태평양의 표층수온은 적도반류 해역에서 가장 높았다. 이것은 $28^{\circ}C$ 이상의 고온수가 봄과 여름철에 적도반류를 타고 서태평양으로부터 동태평양으로 이동하여 약 $4^{\circ}-15^{\circ}N$ 사이에서 동서로 연결되기 때문이다. 북적도해류의 표층에 나타나는 저염분 고용존산소의 해수는 동태평양의 파나마만으로부터 서태평양의 필리핀 부근까지 이동하는 저염분수 때문이다. 반면 남적도해류의 표층에 고염분과 저용존산소의 해수가 분포하는 것은 남태평양 아열대 기원의 고염분수가 적도를 넘어 남적도해류 표층의 열대해수(Tropical Water)와 심층의 고염분수를 형성하고 있기 때문이다. 수심 약 500-1500 m 사이의 중층에서는 염분최소층이 분포하는데, $5^{\circ}N$ 이남은 남극중층수(AAIW) 기원의 해수가, $5^{\circ}N$ 이북은 북태평양중층수(NPIW) 기원의 해수가 분포한다. $4^{\circ}-6^{\circ}N$ 해역에서는 직경 약 200 km이며 반시계 방향으로 회전하는 냉수성 소용돌이(cold eddy)가 관측되었다. 서태평양에 비해 동태평양에서 표층수온은 $1^{\circ}C$ 이상 낮았으며 표층염분은 높았다. 적도 부근의 표층 아래에 분포하는 고염분수는 동태평양에서 상대적으로 저염분(약 0.5 psu) 이었고, $14^{\circ}N$ 이남에서 염분최소층의 염분과 밀도는 동태평양에서 높았다.
