  • Recently, the trend of zero emissions has increased in automotive engineering because of environmental problems and regulations. Therefore, the development of battery electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid/plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs/PHEVs), and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) has been mainstreamed. In particular, for light-duty electric vehicles, improvement in electric motor performance is directly linked to driving range and driving performance. In this paper, using an improved design for the interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM), the EV driving range for the light-duty EV was extended. In the electromagnetic design process, a 2D finite element method (FEM) was used. Furthermore, to consider mechanical stress, ANSYS Workbench was adopted. To conduct a vehicle simulation, the vehicle was modeled to include an electric motor model, energy storage model, and regenerative braking. From these results, using the advanced vehicle simulator (ADVISOR) based on MATLAB Simulink, a vehicle simulation was performed, and the effects of the improved design were described.

  • Recently, Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(PMSM) drives are widely used for industrial applications due to its high efficiency and high power factor control strategy. PMSM generally have two classifications such as the SPMSM(Surface Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors) and IPMSM(Inter Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors). IPMSA has economical merits over SPMSM in higher speed range, mechanical robustness, and higher power rate by the geometric difference. The maximum torque operation in IPMSM is realized by the current angle control which is to utilize additional reluctance torque due to a rotor saliency. In traction, spindle and compressor drives, constant power operation with higher speed range are desirable. This is simply achieved in the DC motor drives by the reduction of the field current as the speed is increased. However, in the PMSM, direct control of the magnet flux is not available. The airgap flux can be weakened by the appropriate current angle control to demagnetize. In this paper, the control method of optimal current vector in IPMSM is described in order to obtain the maximum torque or maximum output with the speed and load variations. The applied algorithm is realized by the proto system with torque and speed control Experimental results show this approach is satisfied for the high performance servo applications. Dopamine-dependent synaptic plasticity in an amygdala inhibitory circuit controls fear memory expression

  • Of the numerous events that occur in daily life, we readily remember salient information, but do not retain most less-salient events for a prolonged period. Although some of the episodes contain putatively emotional aspects, the information with lower saliency is rarely stored in neural circuits via an unknown mechanism. We provided substantial evidence indicating that synaptic plasticity in the dorsal ITC of amygdala allows for selective storage of salient emotional experiences, while it deters less-salient experience from entering long-term memory. After activation of D4R or weak fear conditioning, STDP stimulation induces LTD in the LA-ITC synapses. This form of LTD is dependent upon presynaptic D4R, and is likely to result from enhancement of GABA release. Both optogenetic abrogation of LTD and ablation of D4R at the dorsal ITC in vivo lead to heightened and over-generalized fear responses. Finally, we demonstrated that LTD was impaired at the dorsal ITC of PTSD model mice, which suggests that maladaptation of GABAergic signaling and the resultant LTD impairment contribute to the endophenotypes of PTSD. Sensorless Control of IPMSM with a Simplified High-Frequency Square Wave Injection Method

  • This paper presents a sensorless speed control of IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) using the high-frequency (HF) square wave injection method. In the proposed HF pulsating square wave injection method, injection voltage is applied into the estimated d-axis of rotor and high-frequency induced q-axis current is considered to estimate the rotor position. Conventional square wave injection methods may need complex demodulation process to find rotor position, while in the proposed method, an easy demodulation process based on the rising-falling edge of the injected voltage and carrier induced q-axis current is implemented, which needs less processing time and improves control bandwidth. Unlike some saliency-based sensorless methods, the proposed method uses maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) strategy, instead of zero d-axis command current strategy, to improve control performance. Furthermore, this paper directly uses resultant d-axis current to detect the magnet polarity and eliminates the need to add an extra pulse injection for magnet polarity detection. As experimental results show, the proposed method can quickly find initial rotor position and MTPA strategy helps to improve the control performance. The effectiveness of the proposed method and all theoretical concepts are verified by mathematical equations, simulation, and experimental tests.

  • Now a day, owing to high efficiency and easy speed control of brushless DC(BLDC) motor, the demand of BLDC motor that has high power and low noises are increasing. Especially demand of interior permanent magnet(IPM) BLOC with high efficiency and high power in electric motion vehicle is increasing. IPM BLDC motor has permanent magnets in the rotor. Because it has two different flux paths, magnetic reluctance differences are generated in d-axis and q-axis. As the result of the inductance differences that are generated by the saliency(magnetic reluctance differences) in the rotor, the motor has structure advantage that has the additional reluctance torque except a magnet torque and because magnet is situated inside the rotor, the mechanical structure is strong. Therefore IPM BLDC motor makes possible to have high speed and high power. This paper presents a design and characteristics analysis of IPM BLDC motor for electric vehicle. To design IPM BLDC motor, surface mounted permanent magnet(SPM) BLDC motor is used as the initial design model. According to the shape-ratio() of permanent magnet, the characteristic of IPM BLDC motor is analyzed by Finite element method (FEM). Characteristics analysis results of the designed motor are compared with the experimental results.

  • In accordance with global energy conservation policies such as MEPS (Minimum Energy Performance Standard), electric motor industry is moving to super-high-efficiency machines and research to develop IE4 (International Energy Efficiency Class 4) motors has been launched. In this situation, SynRM (Synchronous Reluctance Motor) has been attracting attention in place of induction motor which hardly provides super premium efficiency. As a result, much research on SynRM is being performed at home and abroad. Also, some products have already been appearing in the market. Compared to induction motor, SynRM has better efficiency per unit area and wider operating range. Although the utilization of control system in synchronous motor results in higher prices, we still need to concentrate on developments of SynRM so as to comply with the new policies. This study demonstrated the electromagnetic design methods of super premium SynRM while maintaining the frame of existing IE3 induction motor. We documented the design procedures for generating high saliency which is the most essential and mechanical stress anlaysis is also treated. In conclusion, we proved the validity of our design by manufacturing and testing our 3 models.

  • The paper reports an improvement method on torque ripples of multi-pole interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) applied to a traction motor for hybrid electric vehicles. In the case of multi-pole IPMSM, the magnetic flux generated by a permanent magnet tends to leak through the bridge of the rotor without a link with stator windings. The slit design on the rotor surface was proposed to reduce torque rippling and increase the output power by reducing the leakage flux. Two design parameters for the slit are suggested for optimal design using the response surface method. As an analysis method, the 2D finite element method (FEM) was applied to consider magnetic saturation effect.

  • As deep learning has become popular, researches which can help explaining the prediction results also become important. Superpixel based multi-scale combining technique, which provides the advantage of visual pleasing by maintaining the shape of the object, has been recently proposed. Based on the principle of prediction difference, this technique computes the saliency map from the difference between the predicted result excluding the superpixel and the original predicted result. In this paper, we propose a new technique of both excluding and including super pixels. Experimental results show 3.3% improvement in IoU evaluation.

An Adaptive Iterative Algorithm for Motion Deblurring Based on Salient Intensity Prior

  • In this paper, an adaptive iterative algorithm is proposed for motion deblurring by using the salient intensity prior. Based on the observation that the salient intensity of the clear image is sparse, and the salient intensity of the blurred image is less sparse during the image blurring process. The salient intensity prior is proposed to enforce the sparsity of the distribution of the saliency in the latent image, which guides the blind deblurring in various scenarios. Furthermore, an adaptive iteration strategy is proposed to adjust the number of iterations by evaluating the performance of the latent image and the similarity of the estimated blur kernel. The negative influence of overabundant iterations in each scale is effectively restrained in this way. Experiments on publicly available image deblurring datasets demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves state-of-the-art deblurring results with small computational costs.

A Novel Text Sample Selection Model for Scene Text Detection via Bootstrap Learning

  • Text detection has been a popular research topic in the field of computer vision. It is difficult for prevalent text detection algorithms to avoid the dependence on datasets. To overcome this problem, we proposed a novel unsupervised text detection algorithm inspired by bootstrap learning. Firstly, the text candidate in a novel form of superpixel is proposed to improve the text recall rate by image segmentation. Secondly, we propose a unique text sample selection model (TSSM) to extract text samples from the current image and eliminate database dependency. Specifically, to improve the precision of samples, we combine maximally stable extremal regions (MSERs) and the saliency map to generate sample reference maps with a double threshold scheme. Finally, a multiple kernel boosting method is developed to generate a strong text classifier by combining multiple single kernel SVMs based on the samples selected from TSSM. Experimental results on standard datasets demonstrate that our text detection method is robust to complex backgrounds and multilingual text and shows stable performance on different standard datasets.
