This study provided safe sailing speed and appropriate passing time to areas of known strong current water to prevent marine accident of the ships. To the interpretation of these data which target Myeongnyang waterway, AIS data of the ship was collected from $12^{th}$ July to $15^{th}$ July 2010 and site environment was investigated on $4^{th}$ September 2010. On the basis of the collected data, the 'Minimum Navigation Speed' and 'Optimum Navigation Speed' were calculated. It has also considered the 'Spare control force' or allowance and the 'Respond Rudder Angle' for each tidal current speed. Additionally, it suggested the safe passing time to strong current area by analyzing tidal level and tidal current speed. The conclusion of the research are as follows : (1) If the flow rate is greater than 4.4 kn, it is difficult for the model ship to control herself by her own steering power and to cope with tidal current pressure force and yaw moment caused by the tidal current.. (2) The minimum navigation speed should be over 2.3 times the tidal current and the optimum navigation speed should be over 4.0 times the tidal current. (3) When spring tide, the optimum passing time at Myeongnyang waterway is between 30 minutes to 1 hour before the time of high/low water, and at 5 hours after high/low water, passing of ships should be avoided because it is time when the flow rate is over 4 kn.
This research examines the use of Cross Bearing in the Republic of Korea Navy. Specifically, this study focuses on the degrees of errors caused by the order of measuring targets and suggests a new method to determine Advice Course. It then reviews the appropriateness of the contents of Location Report that is regularly to the duty officer during a voyage in a narrow channel. Whenever a naval vessel passes through a narrow channel, many number of sailors are assigned to diverse positions in order to enhance navigational safety. Even though it is possible to easily recognize the location of a ship with helps of various kinds of navigational equipments using state-of-the-art technology, there are still several situations where sailors' efforts are indispensible for calculating the position of their ship : when the ship is damaged during an engagement with enemies and when the enemies interfere (GPS) signals. In addition, the particularity of naval vessels in which many number of crew members can be assigned to various positions supports for the suitability of the use of Cross Bearing in the Navy. This study will contribute to navigational safety of the ROK Navy and fostering junior naval officers' seamanship.

Recently, the size of container ships has been progressively increasing, and much attention is required for safe navigation in shallow areas such as coastal waters and ports due to increases in draft. It is necessary to understand the characteristics of ship motion not only in still waters but also with waves. Especially in shallow regions, squat due to the vertical movement of the ship can be an important evaluation factor for the safe navigation, and wave drift force acting in the horizontal direction can have a great influence on the maneuverability of a ship. In this study, a numerical simulation using computational fluid dynamics has been performed for the wave exciting force acting in the vertical direction and the wave drift force acting in the horizontal direction for a very large container vessel sailing in shallow zone. As a result, it was found that total resistance in still waters greatly increased in shallow water. Wave drift force was shown to decrease given longer wavelengths regardless of water depth. It was observed that the wave exciting force in shallow water was considerably larger than at other water depths. As wave height against the central part of the ship lowered, the aft side rose.

Recently, reports of marine accidents of small fishing vessels less than 10 tons have been increasing. In this study, the characteristics of the motion response in regular waves were analyzed using computations for these ships. Small vessels less than 10 tons are classified by size and used for marine accident investigations. Therefore, the motion response analysis was performed on three small fishing vessels of different sizes. In the case of the head sea, it was confirmed that as the speed of the vessel increased in the long wavelength region, the motion responses of heave and pitch became large. The motion response of the smallest 3-ton fishing vessel was greater than that of the other sizes of fishing vessels. The maximum value of the roll motion shifted to the long wavelength region as the speed gradually increased in the bow sea, regardless of the size of the ship. In all the three small fishing vessels, it was found that the roll motion was the greatest at 15 knots, the highest speed in both bow and beam seas. When sailing in the head sea and bow sea conditions, lowering the speed is one of the effective approaches to reduce the effects of the vertical and lateral plane motions. The roll motion caused by the beam wave showed a tendency to increase rapidly only at a specific wavelength regardless of the speed and the size of the vessel. It was confirmed that the roll motion was significantly reduced with forward speed in the stern wave compared to the bow wave. As there is a specific region where the maximum value of the hull motion response appears depending on the size and speed of the ship, an operation method that can minimize the effect of this motion should be considered and implemented.

When using a distributed system, it is very important to know the intention of a target ship in order to prevent collisions. The action taken by a certain ship for collision avoidance and the action of the target ship it intends to avoid influence each other. However, it is difficult to establish a collision avoidance plan in consideration of multiple-ship situations for this reason. To solve this problem, a Distributed Stochastic Search Algorithm (DSSA) has been proposed. A DSSA searches for a course that can most reduce cost through repeated information exchange with target ships, and then indicates whether the current course should be maintained or a new course should be chosen according to probability and constraints. However, it has not been proven how the parameters used in DSSA affect collision avoidance actions. Therefore, in this paper, I have investigated the effect of the parameters and weight factors of DSSA. Experiments were conducted by combining parameters (time window, safe domain, detection range) and weight factors for encounters of two ships in head-on, crossing, and overtaking situations. A total of 24,000 experiments were conducted: 8,000 iterations for each situation. As a result, no collision occurred in any experiment conducted using DSSA. Costs have been shown to increase if a ship gives a large weight to its destination, i.e., takes selfish behavior. The more lasting the expected position of the target ship, the smaller the sailing distance and the number of message exchanges. The larger the detection range, the safer the interaction.

The marine officer plays a pivotal role in the shipping organization as a professional who performs a complex and diverse function. On the sea, unlike land duty, the possibility of turnover increases due to characteristics such as living in isolated spaces, continuous shift work during a set sailing period, high intensity work tension, stress, and social isolation. In this study, the impact of the organization's civic actions on the intention of turnover as a mediator of organizational immersion was divided into three groups of large companies, small and medium-sized enterprises, and public enterprises to check the differences between each category in a structural manner. Analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences between the groups in loyalty and turnover intention when the sub-factors of organizational commitment and organizational citizen behavior of the marine officer, and the size of turnover intention were included. Organization citizen behavior did not directly affect turnover intention, but when indirect effects were included, there was an effect through loyalty, and relationship-oriented organizational citizen behavior negatively affected turnover intention through loyalty. Excluding public enterprises, the non-standardization path coefficients were -0.229±0.117 and -0.319±0.068, respectively, showing a statistically significant effect in large companies and SMEs. These results indicate that in order to lower the employee turnover intention in large corporations and small and medium-sized shipping companies, it is necessary to consider not only organizational citizen behavior but also measures to increase organizational commitment.

As the development of renewable energy expands internationally to cope with global warming and climate change, the share of wind power generation has been gradually increasing. Although wind farms can produce electric power for 24 h a day compared to solar power plants, Their interfere with the operation of nearby radars or communication equipment must be analyzed because large-scale wind power turbines are installed. This study analyzed whether a land radio station can receive sufficient signals when a ship sailing outside the offshore wind farm transmits distress signals on the VHF band. Based on the geographic information system digital map around the target area, wind turbine CAD model, and wind farm layout, the area of interest and wind farm were modeled to enable numerical analysis. Among the high frequency analysis techniques suitable for radio wave analysis in a wide area, a dedicated program applying physical optics (PO) and shooting and bouncing ray (SBR) techniques were used. Consequently, the land radio station could receive the electromagnetic field above the threshold of the VHF receiver when a ship outside the offshore wind farm transmitted a distress communication signal. When the line of sight between the ships and the land station are completely blocked, the strength of the received field decreases, but it is still above the threshold. Hence, although a wind farm is a huge complex, a land station can receive the electromagnetic field from the ship's VHF transmitter because the wave length of the VHF band is sufficiently long to have effects such as diffraction or reflection.

According to domestic air pollutant emission statistics, a considerable amount of air pollutants is generated by ships. Therefore, various policies are being implemented to limit air pollutant emissions from ships and improve the air quality in ports. In addition, international conventions are carried out for the prevention of marine pollution by ships. However, because few studies and experiments have been conducted on the measurement of air pollutants emitted from actually operating ships, this study presented a method and possibility for evaluating air pollutant emissions from a 9,196GT ship actually operating using a portable emission measurement system (PEMS). A difference in emission occurred depending on the RPM and load, and the emission of NOX was 497-2,060ppm, CO2 was 1.55-6.9%, and CO was 0.002-0.14%. The emission specified in the shop test provided by the engine manufacturer differed from the actual emission measured. This study proved that the maximum emission of each air pollutant generated in the entire sailing section of the ship was included in the PEMS measurement range, and the possibility of using PEMS for ships within 10,000GT was verified.

The International Maritime Organization is at the forefront of strengthening gas emission regulations for ships globally. The Korean government needs to apply measures to reduce emissions, such as setting a basic roadmap for greenhouse gas reduction. In addition, there is an urgent need to introduce a new efficient propulsion system that can reduce gas emissions. This includes applications to fishing vessels, which account for 90.6% of the greenhouse gas emissions from ships sailing along domestic coasts. In this study, an electric-combined propulsion system applicable to domestic coastal fishing vessels was developed. The target ship to which the electric-combined propulsion system could be applied was selected. A simulation system was constructed using MATLAB/Simulink to compare the expected fuel consumption when applying the developed complex electric propulsion system to the propulsion system mounted on the selected target fishing vessel. Through simulations, the differences in fuel consumption between the mechanical propulsion system and the electric hybrid propulsion system (both when charging and not charging the battery on land) were confirmed. The results show that fuel consumption can be decreased by approximately 13% and 16% when applying the electric-combined propulsion system.

Despite the rapid advancement in image recognition technology, achieving perfect digitization of tabular documents and handwritten documents still challenges. The purpose of this study is to improve the accuracy of digitizing the logbook by correcting errors by utilizing associated rules considered during logbook entries. Through this, it is expected to enhance the accuracy and reliability of data extracted from logbook through OCR programs. This model is to improve the accuracy of digitizing the logbook of the training ship "Saenuri" at the Mokpo Maritime University by correcting errors identified after Optical Character Recognition (OCR) program recognition. The model identified and corrected errors by utilizing associated rules considered during logbook entries. To evaluate the effect of model, the data before and after correction were divided by features, and comparisons were made between the same sailing number and the same feature. Using this model, approximately 10.6% of errors out of the total estimated error rate of about 11.8% were identified, and 56 out of 123 errors were corrected. A limitation of this study is that it only focuses on information from Dist.Run to Stand Course sections of the logbook, which contain navigational information. Future research will aim to correct more information from the logbook, including weather information, to overcome this limitation.
