  • After several PWSCCs were found in Bugey(France), Ringhals(Sweden), Tihange(Belgium), Oconee, Arkansas, Crystal Fever, Davis-Basse, VC Summer(U.S.A.), Thuruga(Japan), USNRC and PNNL started the research on PWSCC, that is, the PINC project. USNRC required KINS to participate in the PINC project in May 2005. KINS organized the Korean consortium at March 2006 and Pre-RRT for RVHP were performed for the preparation of PINC RRT. Through these preliminary RRT, Korea NDE teams can learn and develop the detection and sizing technique for RVHP dissimilar metal weld. These techniques are now being prepared in Korea and need to be utilized for the In-service inspection of the RVHP and BMI of Korea Nuclear Power Plants. PINC RRT mock-ups will be helpful to training.

  • Korea Infrastructure Safety and Technology Corporation (KISTEC) specifies that the safety inspection and precise safety diagnosis of concrete structures shall be conducted in accordance with the 'Special Law on Safety Management of Infrastructure'. The detailed safety inspection and precise safety diagnosis guidelines presented by KISTEC, however, gives only the grade of members and structures, and thus it is impossible to quantify remaining service life (RSL) of the structures and to quantitatively reflect the effect of differential settlements on the RSL. Therefore, this study aims to develop a RSL evaluation model considering the differential settlements. To this end, a simple equation was proposed based on the correlations between differential settlements and angular distortion, by which the angular distortion of structures was then reflected in nominal strengths of structural members. In addition, the effects of the differential settlements on the RSL of structures were analyzed in detail by using the safety diagnosis results of actual concrete structure.

  • Southeast Asia is a strategic market for both technology and inspection system to enter simultaneously. At the core market is Vietnam which is know to have the fourth highest registration of motorcycles as of 2016. The Motorcycle Inspection System is a social regulation, furthermore, the impact of the system is delivered through indirect means such as minimization of social cost. Therefore, measurements on the perception of users on the needs for an inspection system serves as valuable data to simultaneously enter this markets. This research is an empirical study on the perception of Vietnamese users on the needs to adopt a motorcycle inspection system based on data collected through surveys and is aimed at conducting a preliminary investigation on consumer behavior in Vietnam. The empirical study conducted through surveys revealed that Vietnamese motorcycle users perceive the needs for an inspection system for maintenance, safe operations and selling used vehicles at a reasonable price. In addition, the study also verified that the safe operations factor has a moderating effect due to interaction between prevention of illegal vehicle and reduction of emission gases. This research results present implications in developing equipment adapted to the local area in order to enter into a strategic market. Moreover, it is expected that the findings will also serve as valuable data for bilateral cooperation between the two countries and the diffusion of technology.

  • A comprehensive safety management system will be required in accordance with the implementation of the Major Disaster Punishment Act for close-up safety management of construction sites. Safety management level evaluation management requires a comprehensive relationship between safety management under the Construction Technology Promotion Act and health and health management system under the Industrial Safety and Health Act. Purpose: Safety under the Serious Accidents Punishment Act. The ultimate goal is to study the comprehensive analysis and relationship of health management and to improve the safety evaluation level of health and health management. Methods: The feasibility of the questionnaire was confirmed through the second Delphi analysis of construction site experts and safety managers, and the regression coefficient and path analysis of potential variants in safety management, safety management, health management and safety inspection were confirmed. Result and Conclusion: In the structural model, the regression coefficient (89%) from safety management, health system, and safety management to safety inspection execution and lambda values of appropriate observation variables were confirmed. In the path analysis, the total effect (.809) was confirmed by mediating health hygiene in the relationship between health plan establishment adequacy and post-inspection management, and the path coefficient (.82) of temporary structure safety was confirmed.

  • A total of 120 samples corresponding to 12 categories of dried processed fishery products distributed in Gyeonggi-do were examined for radioactivity contamination (131I, 134Cs, 137Cs) and heavy metals (lead, cadmium, arsenic, and mercury). One natural radioactive material, 40K, was detected in all products, while the artificial radioactive materials 131I, 134Cs and 137Cs were not detected at above MDA (minimum detectable activity) values. The detection ranges of heavy metals converted by biological basis were found as follows: Pb (N.D.-0.332 mg/kg), Cd (N.D.-2.941 mg/kg), As (0.371-15.007 mg/kg), Hg (0.0005-0.0621 mg/kg). Heavy metals were detected within standard levels when there was an acceptable standard, but the arsenic content was high in most products, although none of the products had a permitted level of arsenic. In the case of dried processed fishery products, there are products that are consumed by restoring moisture to its original state, but there are also many products that are consumed directly in the dry state, so it will be necessary to set permitted levels for heavy metals considering this situation in the future. In addition, Japan has decided to release contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the ocean, so there is high public concern about radioactivity contamination of food, including fishery products. Therefore, continuous monitoring of various food items will be necessary to ease consumers' anxiety.

  • In this study, heavy metals (lead, cadmium, and mercury) and shellfish poisoning toxins (diarrhetic shellfish poisoning toxins, amnesic shellfish poisoning toxins) were investigated in a total of 104 shellfishes. According to the analysis of heavy metals, lead (Pb) was detected in the range of 0.0177-0.5709 mg/kg, cadmium (Cd) was detected in the range of 0.0226-1.4602 mg/kg, and mercury (Hg) was detected in the range of 0.0015-0.0327 mg/kg. Levels of Pb, Cd, and Hg were acceptable by Korean standards. Okadaic acid (OA) and dinophysistoxin-1 (DTX-1) were investigated for monitoring of diarrhetic shellfish poisoning toxins and OA and DTX-1 were not detected. As a result of monitoring of amnesic shellfish poisoning toxins, domoic acid was detected in 5 of 104 samples and detection ratio was 4.8%. The detection period was found as follows; 1 case in January, 1 case in February, 1 case in May, 2 cases in September. These showed that continuous monitoring for the management of shellfish poisoning toxins and heavy metals is required. In addition, this study can be used as reference data to strengthen managing heavy metals in fishery products.
