Starting from the review of signal flow graphs and flow graphs, this paper gives an example of sampled-data systems for Sedlar & Bekey's formulation. In this purpose it discussed the difference between Mason's signal-flow graphs and Coates flow graphs for drawing th flow graph of a linear system, and then a new flow-graph symbol introduced in order to distinguish between continuous and discrete systems. Thus, the paper is analysed and compared with a sampled-data systems between conventional methods and new method of signal flow graphs.
Artificial heart is divided by pulsation flow type and continuous flow type according to blood circulation pattern. Axial flow blood pump is a kind of continuous flow type artificial heart. Axial flow blood pump would be different pump performance according to impeller's shape and rotating velocity. Pump performance be able to compare by flow rate according to differential pressure and Impeller's rotating velocity. It confirms Impeller model of better efficiency according to compare Pump performance of axial flow blood pump using CFD with actual experiment result.
Counter-rotating axial flow fan(CRF) consists of two counter-rotating rotors without stator blades. CRF shows the complex flow characteristics of the three-dimensional, viscous, and unsteady flow fields. For the understanding of the entire core flow in CRF, it is necessary to investigate the three-dimensional unsteady flow field between the rotors. This information is also essential to improve the aerodynamic characteristics and to reduce the aerodynamic noise level and vibration characteristics of the CRF. In this paper, experimental study on the three-dimensional unsteady flow of the CRF is performed at the design point(operating point). Flow fields in the CRF are measured at the cross-sectional planes of the upstream and downstream of each rotor using the $45^{\circ}$ inclined hot-wire. The phase-locked averaged hot-wire technique utilizes the inclined hot-wire, which rotates successively with 120 degree increments about its own axis. Three-dimensional unsteady flow characteristics such as tip vortex, secondary flow and tip leakage flow in the CRF are shown in the form of the axial, radial and tangential velocity vector plot and velocity contour. The phase-locked averaged velocity profiles of the CRF are analyzed by means of the stationary unsteady measurement technique. At the mean radius of the front rotor inlet and the outlet, the phase-locked averaged velocity profiles show more the periodical flow characteristics than those of the hub region. At the tip region of the CRF, the axial velocity is decreased due to the boundary layer effect of the fan casing and the tip vortex flow. The radial and the tangential velocity profiles show the most unstable and unsteady flow characteristics compared with other position of rotors. But, the phase-locked averaged velocity profiles of the downstream of the rear rotor show the aperiodic flow pattern due to the mixture of the front rotor wake period and the rear rotor rotational period.
The configuration of the flow channel on a bipolar plate of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC) for efficient reactant supply has great influence on the performance of the fuel cell. Recent demand for higher energy density fuel cells requires an increase in current density at mid voltage range and a decrease in concentration overvoltage at high current density. Therefore, an interdigitated flow channel where mass transfer rate by convection through a gas diffusion layer is greater than the mass transfer by a diffusion mechanism through a gas diffusion layer was recently proposed. This study attempts to analyze the i-V performance, mass transfer and pressure drop in interdigitated flow channels by developing a fully three dimensional simulation model for PEMFC that can deal with anode and cathode flow together. The results indicate that the trade off between performance and pressure loss should be considered for efficient design of flow channels. Although the performance of the fuel cell with interdigitated flow is better than that with conventional flow channels due to a strong mass transfer rate by convection across a gas diffusion layer, there is also an increase in friction due to the strong convection through the porous diffusion layer accompanied by a larger pressure drop along the flow channel. It was evident that the proper selection of the ratio of channel and rib width under counter flow conditions in the fuel cell with interdigitated flow are necessary to optimize the interdigitated flow field design.
Thixotropy is a time-dependent shear-thinning phenomenon. We derived a new thixotropic formula which is based on the generalized viscosity formula of Ree and Eyring, $f={\Sigma}\frac{X_i}{{\alpha}_i}sinh^{-1}$ () (Refer to the text concerning the notation.) The following is postulated: (1) thixotropy occurs when small flow units attached to a large flow unit separate from the latter under stress (2) elastic energy(${\omega}$) is stored on the large flow unit during the flow process, and (3) the stored energy contributes to decrease the activation energy for flow. A new thixotropic formula was derived by using these postulations, $f={\frac}{X_0{\beta}_0}{\alpha_0}{\dot{s}}+{\frac}{X_1{\beta}_1}{{\alpha}_1}{\dot{s}}+{\frac}{X_2}{{\alpha_x}}sinh^{-1}$[$({\beta}_0)_2$ exp $(-C_2{\dot{s}}^2/RT){\cdot}{\dot{s}}$] f is the shear stress, and s is the rate of shear. In case of concentrated solutions where the Newtonian flow units have little contribution to the viscosity of the system, the above equation becomes, $f=\frac{X_2}{\alpha_2}sinh^{-1}$[$({\beta}_0)_2$ exp $(-C_2{\dot{s}}^2/RT){\cdot}{\dot{s}}$]. In order to confirm these formulas, we applied to TiO2(anatase and rutile)-water, printing ink and mayonnaise systems. Good agreements between the experiment and theory were observed.
The seawater lift pump system is responsible for maintaining the open canal level to provide the suction flow of circulating water pump at the set point. The objective of this paper is to design a 2-stage mixed flow pump(for seawater lifting) by inverse design and to evaluate the overall performance and the local flow fields of the pump by using a commercial CFD code. Rotating speed of the impeller is 1,750 rpm with the flow rate of 2,700 $m^3/h$. Finite volume method with structured mesh and Realizable ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model is used to guaranty more accurate prediction of turbulent flow in the pump impeller. The numerical results such as static head brake horse power and efficiency of the mixed flow pump are compared with the reference data. Also, the periodic condition calculation method for the mixed flow pump was carried out in order to investigate the pump performance characteristics with the modification of impeller geometry.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of teaching flow on the relationship between director's servant leadership and early childhood teachers'happiness. Methods: The subjects in this study were 241 early childhood teachers in Busan and South Gyeongsang Province in South Korea. Three different inventories were utilized. The Servant Leadership Scale, Teaching Flow Scale and Happiness Scale were used. As for data analysis, SPSS & AMOS 21.0 and PROCESS macro were utilized. Results: First, the director's servant leadership, teaching flow and happiness of the teachers were all above average, and there was a significant positive correlation between their total scores of servant leadership, teaching flow and happiness. Second, The teaching flow was found to have a partial mediation effect on the on the relationship between director's servant leadership and happiness of the early childhood teachers. Conclusion/Implications: These results indicate that effort to promote director's servant leadership and teaching flow is needed to promote early childhood teachers'happiness.
The heat (mass) transfer characteristics in the tip-leakage flow region of a high-turning first-stage turbine rotor blade has been investigated by employing the naphthalene sublimation technique. The heat transfer data in the tip-leakage flow area for the tip clearance-to-span ratio, h/s, of 2.0% are compared with those in endwall three-dimensional flow region without tip clearance (h/s : 0.0 %). The result shows that the thermal load in the tip-leakage flow region for h/s = 2.0% is more severe than that in the endwall flow region for h/s : 0.0%. The thermal loads even at the leading and trailing edges for h/s = 2.0% are found larger than those for h/s = 0.0%. The tip-leakage flow results in heat transfer augmentations near the tip on both pressure and suction sides in comparison with the mid-span results.
Nanoimprint lithography (NIL) has attracted broad interest as a low cost method to define nanometer scale patterns in recent years. A major disadvantage of thermal NIL is the thermal cycle, that is, heating over glass transition temperature and then cooling below it, which requires a significant amount of processing time and limits the throughput. One of the methods to overcome this disadvantage is to improve the cooling performance in NIL process. In this paper, the performance of the cooling system of thermal NIL is numerically investigated by SolidWorks Flow Simulation program. The calculated temperatures of nanoimprint device were verified by the measurements. By using the analysis model, the effects of the change of flow velocity and cooler location on the cooling performance are investigated. For the 6 cases (0.1 m/s, 0.5 m/s, 1 m/s, 3 m/s, 5 m/s, 10 m/s) of flow velocity and for the 6 cases of distances (50 mm, 40 mm, 30 mm, 20 mm, 10 mm, 1 mm) of cooler location, the heat conjugated flow analyses are performed and discussed.
The supersonic flow around tandem cavities was investigated by three- dimensional numerical simulations using the Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) equation with the $\kappa-\omega$ thrbulence model. The flow around a cavity is characterized as unsteady flow because of the formation and dissipation of vortices due to the interaction between the freestream shear layer and cavity internal flow, the generation of shock and expansion waves, and the acoustic effect transmitted from wake flow to upstream. The upwind TVD scheme based on the flux vector split using van Leer's limiter was used as the numerical method. Numerical calculations were performed by the parallel processing with time discretizations carried out by the 4th-order Runge-Kutta method. The aspect ratio of cavities are 3 for the first cavity and 1 for the second cavity. The ratio of cavity interval to depth is 1. The ratio of cavity width to depth is 1 in the case of three dimensional flow. The Mach number and the Reynolds number were 1.5 and $4.5{\times}10^5$, respectively. The characteristics of the dominant frequency between two-dimensional and three-dimensional flows were compared, and the characteristics of the second cavity flow due to the fire cavity flow cavity flow was analyzed. Both two dimensional and three dimensional flow oscillations were in the 'shear layer mode', which is based on the feedback mechanism of Rossiter's formula. However, three dimensional flow was much less turbulent than two dimensional flow, depending on whether it could inflow and outflow laterally. The dominant frequencies of the two dimensional flow and three dimensional flows coincided with Rossiter's 2nd mode frequency. The another dominant frequency of the three dimensional flow corresponded to Rossiter's 1st mode frequency.
