Checklist of the Snake Eels (Ophichthidae: Anguilliformes) from Korea, with a Change of their Korean Names (한국산 바다뱀장어과(개칭)(Ophichthidae: Anguilliformes) 어류의 종 목록 및 국명 개칭)

  • A checklist of snake eels (Ophichthidae) from Korea is presented including information, such as synonyms, distribution, occurrence records and key to species of 7 genera and 14 species. Also, we suggest change of the Korean names for the snake eels (Ophichthidae) "Ba-da-baem-gwa" to "Ba-da-baem-jang-eo-gwa", and it's members, because Korean names of snake eels (Ophichthidae) is similar to those of sea snake (Hydridae).

  • 우리나라에서는 에어로졸에 대해서 많은 관측과 분석이 이루어졌지만 바다와 육지의 에어로졸 분포에 대한 연구에는 어려움이 많았다. 인공위성자료를 이용하면 한반도와 주위의 바다가 한 화면에 나타나기 때문에 에어로졸의 공간분포 연구에 사용할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 MODIS 자료를 이용해 에어로졸의 optical thickness를 이용하여 미세입자와 거대입자의 구성비를 구하고, 에어로졸의 공간 분포 및 특성을 연구하였다. (중략)

New Effective Korean Character Keypads using Dragging on Smart Phones (스마트폰에서 끌기 기능을 이용한 효과적인 한글 문자 자판)

  • Smart phones have been technologically advanced in many ways from basic cellular phones. However, most of all smart phone users in Korea still have been using the traditional Korean character keypads used in the basic cellular phones. It would be required to develop new keypads on smart phones with touch screen. In this paper, we extended the three standard Korean character keypads - Cheonjiin, Naragul, and SKY-Hangul - by adding dragging function on touch screen, then we compared writing speeds of the keypads based on the number of touching buttons and moving distance of the finger while writing a sentence. In addition, we proposed two new Korean keypads - 's-Gana' and 's-Bada', which are more suitable on smart phones. s-Gana assigned 7 representative consonants and 5 representative vowels in order on the 4x3 keypad, and s-Bada assigned consonants and vowels by considering their frequency of use. s-Gana and s-Bada keypads showed 3~19% and 9~24% of performance improvement, respectively, compared with the standard Korean keypads. Finally, we set up 5 requisites of SELF-T in order to evaluate the usability of Korean character keypads in smart phones, then we compared the keypads using the requisites.

Nomenclature of the Seas Around the Korean Peninsula Derived From Analyses of Papers in Two Representative Korean Ocean and Fisheries Science Journals: Present Status and Future (국내 대표 해양·수산 과학논문 분석을 통한 우리나라 주변 바다 이름표기에 대한 제언)

  • We grouped the names attributed to the seas surrounding the Korean Peninsula in maps published in two major Korean ocean and fisheries science journals over the period from 1998 to 2017: the Journal of the Korean Society of Oceanography (The Sea) and the Korean Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Science (KFAS). The names attributed to these seas in maps of journal paper broadly were classified into three groupings: (1) East Sea and Yellow Sea; (2) East Sea, Yellow Sea, and South Sea; or (3) East Sea, West Sea and South Sea. The name 'East Sea' was dominantly used for the waters between Korea and Japan. In contrast, the water between Korea and China has been mostly labelled as 'Yellow Sea' but sometimes labelled as 'West Sea'. The waters between the south coast of Korea and Kyushu, Japan were labelled as either 'Korea Strait' or 'South Sea'. This analysis on sea names in the maps of 'The Sea' and 'KFAS' reveals that domestic researchers frequently mix geographical and international names when referring to the waters surrounding the Korean Peninsula. These inconsistencies provide the motivation for the development of a basic unifying guideline for naming the seas surrounding the Korean Peninsula. With respect to this, we recommend the use of separate names for the marginal seas between continental landmasses and/or islands versus for the coastal waters surrounding Korea. For the marginal seas, the internationally recognized names are recommended to be used: East Sea; Yellow Sea; Korea Strait; and East China Sea. While for coastal seas, including Korea's territorial sea, the following geographical nomenclature is suggested to differentiate them from the marginal sea names: Coastal Sea off the East Coast of Korea (or the East Korea Coastal Zone), Coastal Sea off the South Coast of Korea (or the South Coastal Zone of Korea), and Coastal Sea off the West Coast of Korea (or the West Korea Coastal Zone). Further, for small or specific study areas, the local region names, district names, the sea names and the undersea feature names can be used on the maps.

Application of Oil Spill Model to the South Sea of Korea (누유확산 모델의 남해안 적용)

  • An oil spill model, Green Sea Ranger(GSR) based on trajectory and fate modeling of spilt oil behavior is introduced. The various physical models on weathering processes are reviewed and those adopted by GSR are described. A database for currents, which is necessary for the real-time simulation of oil spill, is generated on the south sea of Korea. The real-time prediction of tidal currents in the South Sea of Korea is carried out. Four major constituents (M₂, S₂, K₁, O₁ tide) are employed in the prediction, and those angular speeds and phases are determined from the astronomical arguments. The harmonic constants of the constituents are computed by solving shallow-water tide equations. The GSR has user-freiendly GUI and flexible framework which makes it easy to expand the database for sea environments in Korean coastal waters. The GSR is validated by the simulation of O-Sung oil spill caused by a grounded oil tanker in coastal sea near Maemol-do. The simulated trajectory is compared with observed one and it is shown that the GSR gives reasonable estimation on spilt oil bahavior.

A Study on the Estimation of Mooring Force of the T/S HANBADA (실습선 한바다호의 계류력 추정연구)

  • Recently, interest in smart port systems for linking with autonomous ships is increasing. To build a smart port system, primarily, a system that can automatically moor a vessel is required. To calculate the allowable mooring capacity of the automatic mooring system in a port, the characteristics of the vessel must be considered, and the external force generated from environmental disturbances in the sea must be accurately calculated. Accurately estimating the magnitude of these environmental disturbances is an extremely important factor for designing an automatic mooring system. In this study, the mooring capacity of the HANBADA was estimated according to the port and fishing port design criteria of the Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries. The longitudinal and lateral forces of the mooring force acting on the HANBADA were 18 kN and 248 kN, respectively, under the most extreme ocean conditions (BF 6).

강릉연안 토종 다시마의 양식 연구

  • 동해안의 강릉 연안에 자생하는 토종 다시마인 개다시마는 산업적으로 개발의 여지가 매우 크다. 그러나 천연 자원량에 의존하고 있는 가공산업은 해황에 따라 원료 공급이 좌우되는 불안정성을 가지고 있어서 이 식물의 산업적 생산량을 확보하기 위한 방안으로 대량양식의 필요성이 대두되고 있다. 본 연구는 동해안 토종 다시마인 개다시마의 종묘생산기술 개발을 위해서 항온배양기와 실내수조배양을 실시하고 바다 가이식 양성에 의한 환경적응성 실험을 수행하였다. 연구 방법은 2001년 10월에 강릉연안 수심 20m에서 분포하는 개다시마 군락의 모조로부터 유주자액을 받아 온도 5, 10, 15, 20, $25^{\circ}C$, 조도 40, 80, 120 $\mu$mol m$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$의 조건에서 6주간 정치배양하였다. 유주자의 발아 및 아포체 생장 실험 이후 바다 가이식 및 양성실험은 2002년 1~2월까지 1개월간 실시하였다. 유주자의 발아 및 아포체 형성은 1$0^{\circ}C$, 120$\mu$mo1 m$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$에서 배양 2주만에 가장 먼저 아포체의 발아가 관찰되었으며, 이후 15$^{\circ}C$와 5$^{\circ}C$에서 순차적으로 아포체의 발아가 이루어졌다. 2$0^{\circ}C$는 80, 120$\mu$mol m$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$에서 소수의 아포체만이 관찰되었으며, $25^{\circ}C$에서는 아포체가 형성되지 않았다. 아포체는 1$0^{\circ}C$에서 가장 좋은 생장을 보였고, 15$^{\circ}C$와 1$0^{\circ}C$에서는 비슷한 생장을 나타냈으며, 2$0^{\circ}C$에서는 80$\mu$mol m$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$에서만 아포체의 형성이 관찰되어 가장 낮은 생장을 보였다. 동일 온도에서는 조도에 따른 생장의 차이가 많이 났는데, 40$\mu$mol m$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$에서 가장 좋은 생장을 나타냈다. 80과 120$\mu$mol m$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$에서는 120$\mu$mol m$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$이 약간 좋은 생장을 보였지만 큰 차이는 나지 않았다. 생장이 가장 좋은 조건은 1$0^{\circ}C$, 40$\mu$mol m$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$으로 엽장 1.28mm까지 생장했다. 전체적으로 수심이 깊은 곳에 서식하는 특성상 저수온과 저조도에서 좋은 생장 경향을 보였다. 실내배양을 통해 얻은 엽장 약 1~2mm의 종묘를 2002년 1월말에 삼척 호산에 위치한 바다 양성장에서 종묘들과 함께 2주간 수심별로 가이식(수온 12$^{\circ}C$)을 실시한 결과, 수심 1m에서 좋게 나타나 엽장이 약 5mm정도 생장하였다. 수심 0m에서는 강한 조도에 의해 엽상체가 사그라드는 기형이 나타났으며, 수심 5m에서는 엽상체의 기형이나 생장의 차이는 없었지만, 색택이 약간 바랜 것을 볼 수 있었다. 종합적으로 볼 때 종묘의 관리나 생장에는 수심 1~2m가 양호할 것으로 생각된다. 바다 가이식을 통해 엽장 5mm의 종묘로 생장시킨 후 바로 본양성장에 씨줄감기를 하여 양성을 실시하였다 양성 1개월 후 엽상체는 약 2~3cm, 최대 4~5cm까지 생장하였다. 이를 통해 강릉연안 토종 다시마인 개다시마에 대한 종묘 생산과 대량 양성의 가능성을 확인하였다.

Aspects of Liang Qichao and Choi Namsun's Enlightenment Project (량치차오와 최남선의 계몽 기획 관련 양상)

  • The enlightenment project raised in both Korea and China during the modern period worked as a part of the patriotic enlightenment movement against the imperial powers. Among them, "boy" appeared as the subject of enlightenment, and "sea" appeared as a medium. Specifically, through "Boy Discourse," Liang Qi Chao ultimately envisioned a nation for "subjects", and Choi Nam-seon also seeked to overcome the national crisis as "New Korea" and join the ranks of powerful nations. Liang Qiqiao proposes the concept of a "Boy Nation" and an "Old Nation" through boy discourse, and wishing for the development of the "Boy Nation" through "proficiency training". Choi Nam-seon also recognized that the future of the nation depends on "boys", influenced by Liang Qi-qiao's discourse on boys, and argues that Choseon should cultivate skills to become a "Boy Nation". In addition, Liang Qi-chao and Choi Nam-seon actively spread the "boy discourse" through the creation of poetry. Liang Qi Chao introduced the world's geography and history through poetries related to the sea, while at the same time inspiring a sense of challenge to recognize and pioneer the sea as a pathway that connects the world in a broad sense. Namseon Choi also created a poem that directly linked "the sea" and the "boy" to promote the "adventure at sea" and "the progressive spirit of the sea and the boy".

Characterization of Calcium Release Channel (Ryanodine Receptor) in Sarcoplasmic Reticulum of Crustacean Skeletal Muscle (갑각류 골격근의 Sarcoplasmic Reticulum에서 칼슘유리)

  • To characterize the SR Ca-release channel protein complex of crustacean, $^{45}Ca-release,\;[^3H]ryanodine$ binding, and immunoblot studies were carried out in the crayfish and/or lobster skeletal sarcoplasmic reticulum. Bmax and affinity of crayfish SR to ryanodine were lower than those of lobster SR. AMP (5mM) increased $[^3H]ryanodine$ binding significantly in both vesicles (P<0.05). $Mg^{2+}$(5mM) or tetracaine(1mM) inhibited $[^3H]ryanodine$ binding significantly in both vesicles (P<0.001), but ruthenium red $(10\;{\mu}M)$ inhibited it moderately. In SDS polyacrylamide gel electrophoretic analysis of crayfish SR vesicles, there was a high molecular weight band that showed similar mobility with Ca-release channel protein of lobster skeletal SR, but more rapid mobility (HMWBr) than that of rabbit skeletal SR (HMWBS). Immunoblot analysis showed that polyclonal Ab to lobster skeletal SR Ca-release channel protein was react with HMWBr of crayfish skeletal SR, but not with that of HMWBs of rabbit skeletal SR. ^{45}Ca-release from crayfish skeletal SR vesicles was increased by the increase of extravesicular calcium from $1{\mu}M$ to 1mM. This Ca-release phenomenon was similar, but more sensitive in the low concentration of $Ca^{2+}$, compared to that from lobster SR vesicles. AMP (5mM) or caffeine (10mM) did not affect to $^{45}Ca-release.\;^{45}Ca-release$ was inhibited slightly ($3{\sim}8%\;by\;Mg^{2+}$) (5mM) or tetracaine (1mM), and moderately (23%) by high concentration of ruthenium red $(300\;{\mu}M)$. From the above results, it is suggested that SR Ca-release channel protein of crustacean has different properties from that of the rabbit, and similar properties between crayfish and lobster in functional and immunological aspects, but Ca-release via crayfish channel may be more sensitive to calcium.

Pattern reflects the specific culture or regional feature. So Depending on which pattern to use, creator can give particular of identity. which is generally utilized in visual arts such as painting, architecture, craft, as well as animation. Pattern in animation plays a role of decorating background or surfaces of characters' outfits or props. And Parttern is effective way to describe the story of the times and space environment of the background. Tomm Moore, an animation director in in Ireland mainly produces animations based on traditional folk stories or myths. He usually utilizes cultural and artistic factors related to the themes in his work production. One example is the insertion of pattern closely associated with the narratives and backgrounds of animations to create profound scenes. Tomm Moore used the Irish Celt pattern in Secret of Kells (2009) and Song of Sea (2014) and Islam geometric pattern and plant pattern in a short nimation named On Love from Kahlil Gibran's The Prophe (2014). This study attempts to examine the historical and cultural foundation and the narratives of these two animations, Song of Sea(2014) and Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet: On Love (2014) in which Tomm Moore participated as the director and producer, exploring their relevant traditional patterns. Moreover, it also attempts to analyze how these traditional patterns are utilized in the animations.
