Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the current and future status of Parkinson's disease rehabilitation service in Busan. Methods: A literature search of domestic journals was conducted using the keywords "Parkinson's", "exercise", "rehabilitation", and "physical therapy". The chosen databases were Research Information Sharing Service (RISS), e-articles, and Korean studies Information Service System (KISS). International literature was searched in PubMed, Pedro, DOI, Publisher, CINAHL (EBSCOhost), and PsycINFO using the same combination of keywords. Results: The results of this study showed that 33 medical institutions provide Parkinson's disease rehabilitation service and five do not. Regarding the composition of Parkinson's disease rehabilitation teams, 15 medical institutions provide physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy as their rehabilitation program, 15 medical institutions provide physical therapy and occupational therapy, and three provide only physical therapy. The study found that muscle-strengthening, flexibility, endurance, and balance exercises were commonly provided in all 33 medical institutions for Parkinson's disease. Additional exercises were provided in only three medical institutions. The frequency was five times a week in 20 medical institutions. Conclusion: Medical institutions located in Busan provide a variety of Parkinson's disease rehabilitation services, not only in general hospitals but also in multiple medical institutions, although the composition of their Parkinson's disease rehabilitation teams and the frequency of treatment vary.

The SSJHT hot water extract & ultra-fine powder a significant inhibitory effect on the memory deficit was shown for the mice with Alzheimer's disease induced by ${\beta}A$ in the Morris water maze experiment, which measured step-through latency. The SSJHT hot water extract & ultra-fine powder suppressed the expression of $TNF-{\alpha}$$, $L-1{\beta}$ protein significantly in the microglial cell of mice with Alzheimer's disease induced by ${\beta}A$. The SSJHT hot water extract & ultra-fine powder reduced the MDA and suppressed the over-expression of CD68, CD11b in the mice with Alzheimer's disease induced by ${\beta}A$. The SSJHT hot water extract & ultra-fine powder significantly decreased AChE activity in the serum of the mice with Alzheimer's disease induced by ${\beta}A$. The SSJHT hot water extract & ultra-fine powder reduced infarction area of hippocampus. and controlled the injury of brain tissue in the mice with Alzheimer's disease induced by ${\beta}A$. The results suggest that the SSJHT hot water extract & ultra-fine powder may be effective for treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Investigation into the clinical use of the SSJHT hot water extract & ultra-fine powder for Alzheimer's disease is suggested for future research.
Purpose: The novelty of intensive mobility training (IMT) is its intensive nature. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of IMT in patients with Parkinson's disease. Methods: Subjects participated in 3 hours/day for ten days (30 hours). Gait parameters of interest were the timed up-and-go test, 10-m walk test, and step length and width. Measures were made at baseline before commencement of training (pre-training) and at the end of the two-week training period (post-training). Results: Seven patients with Parkinson's disease enrolled in the study. On average, participants are able to tolerate 141 minutes of activity during a 180-minute session. Results showed that, after 10 consecutive days training, subjects significantly improved for all parameters; the timed up-and-go test, 10-m walk test, and stride length and step width. Conclusion: This study's findings show that gait properties in patients with Parkinson's disease can be improved with IMT.
1. Objectives The purpose of this case is to report that Soeumin patient diagnosed as Grave's disease was treated with Palmulgunja-tang and antithyroid drugs in combination. 2. Methods From April 7, 2010 to June 30, 2010, we treated him with Palmulgunja-tang and antithyroid drugs. We took his weight, pulse and checked visual analog scale(VAS) to evaluate the symptoms of Grave's disease. 3. Results After treatment, this patient's thyroid function test were improved faster than with western medicine treatment only in 2009. The symptoms also were improved. 4. Conclusions This case study showed an efficient results by giving Sasang Constitutional treatment in treatment of Grave's disease.
Stellate ganglion block has been used to treat diseases such as peripheral vascular disease, sympathetic dystrophy, and various pain syndromes involving the head or arm. Raynaud's disease is a syndrome manifested by attacks of pallor, cyanosis, numbness and pain of the digits in response to cold or emotional change. I report one case who was given Stellate ganglion block using 18G teflon Catheter(4.5 cm in length) for Raynaud's disease. Continuous stellate ganglion block is more convinient to inpatient than repeated needle punctures and may reduce major complications and more useful to patient who needs continuous sympathetic block about one week duration.
Parkinson's disease is a growing and chronic movement disorder, and its diagnosis is difficult especially at the initial stages. In this paper, movement characteristics extracted by a computer using multilayer back propagation neural network mapping are converted to the symptoms of this disease. Then, modulation of three classifiers of C4.5, k-nearest neighbors, and support vector machine with majority voting are applied to support experts in diagnosing the disease. The purpose of this study is to choose appropriate characteristics and increase the accuracy of the diagnosis. Experiments were performed to demonstrate the improvement of Parkinson's disease diagnosis using this method.

Lyme disease, or Lyme borreliosis. is an infection caused by spirohete Borrellia burgdorferi. This disease was recognized in Lyme, Conneticut U.S.A. in 1975. The onset of the disease is usually heralded by the appearance of a pathognomic skin lesion, known as erythema chronicum migrans, and accompanied by flue like or meningitis like symptoms. Unless treatment is initiated early, the disease usually disseminated, often resulting carduac, neurologic, or joint manifestations. All stages of the disease are usually curable by appropriate antibiotic therapy, and can prevent severe late cardiac, neurologic, and joint complications. Lyme disease is typically defined by clinical evidence supported by serologic test. The diagnosis require serologic confirmantion of erythema chronicum migrans, occurring in patient in nonendemic countries. Determination of antibody titer against B. burgdorferi by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) currently the most practical diagnostic test. Currently Lyme disease occurs in U.S.A. Europe, and Australia. It has recently recognized in China, Japan, and Soviet Union also. In United States, Lyme disease is most common vector borne infection. There is no reported case of patients with this disease in Korea. But the vector of this disease, -Ixodes ticks- had been identified in Korea. And Korea is geographically closely related to China and Japan where Lyme disease is already reported. We expect first case of Lyme disease could he reported in near future. We review the clinical manifestations and diagnostic method of Lyme disease.

Gaucher disease is a lysosomal storage disease caused by deficiency of glucocerebrosidase (GBA). This condition is characterized by accumulation of glucocerebrosidase in liver, spleen, lung, skeletal system, and central nervous system. Gaucher disease is the prototype of disease in which efficacy of enzyme replacement therapy has been established. However, because recombinant enzyme is not able to enter the central nervous system, its efficacy is limited to the non-neurological manifestations of Gaucher disease. Importantly, approximately a half of Korean patients with Gaucher disease suffer from neurological manifestations. In addition, Korean Gaucher disease patients exhibit distinct mutation spectrum from those in other populations. Common mutations in Korean patients with Gaucher disease are also associated with neurological phenotype. Therefore, therapeutic strategies tailored to Korean patients were necessary. Interestingly, a chemical chaperone, ambroxol, has been known to increase residual enzymatic activities of the select mutant GBAs encoded by mutations prevalent in Korean patients. One promising aspect of this drug is that it can cross blood-brain barrier, and enhance the enzyme activity in the brain. In vitro study suggested this chemical chaperone as one of new therapeutic agents in Gaucher disease, and a well-designed human trial is required to confirm its efficacy.
In the present study we have examined human-mouse homologous intronless disease and non-disease genes alongside their extent of sequence conservation, tissue expression, domain and gene ontology composition to get an idea regarding evolutionary and functional attributes. We show that selection has significantly discriminated between the two groups and the disease associated genes in particular exhibit lower $K_{a}$ and $K_{a}/K_{s}$ while $K_{s}$ although smaller is not significantly different. Our analyses suggest that majority of disease related intronless human genes have homology limited to eukaryotic genomes and their expression is localized. Also we observed that different classes of intronless disease related genes have experienced diverse selective pressures and are enriched for higher level functionality that is essentially needed for developmental processes in complex organisms. It is expected that these insights will enhance our understanding of the nature of these genes and also improve our ability to identify disease related intronless genes.
Objectives : This paper summarizes results from review of 36 cases and medical records extracted from Yeoksimanpil, involving treatment of exogenous disease in the last Joseon dynasty, and considers significance of treatment protocols. Methods : About 130 medical records from Yeoksimanpil related to exogenous disease were reviewed, and 36 cases were extracted for closer investigation. The author examined the characteristics of exogenous diseases treated in Yeoksimanpil during the Joseon dynasty, employing Yi Suki's theory about exogenous febrile disease, and analyzed the theory from the viewpoint of epidemic febrile disease (溫病學). Results : The majority of exogenous diseases recorded in Yeoksimanpil include Sanghan (傷寒); Seo (暑); Ryeohwan (厲患); and Hongjin (紅疹). Sanghan was found to be prevalent among the exogenous diseases, but diseases caused by warmth and epidemic are recognized separately from Sanghan. Yi Suki's theory about exogenous febrile disease is similar to the basic theory of modern epidemic febrile disease, although his theory was developed independently during the last Joseon dynasty. Conclusions : Although some exogenous diseases in Yeoksimanpil were recognized separately, Yi Suki did not specify each feature nor did he focus on each symptom. Instead, the author's research suggests that Yi Suki was able to identify and treat a variety of various exogenous diseases due to his accumulation of medical knowledge and skill.
