A Design of the Expert System for Diagnosis of Abnormal Gait by using Rule-Based Representation (규칙처리 표현방식을 이용한 이상 보행용 전문가 시스템의 설계)

  • This paper describes a design of the expert system for diagnosis of abnormal gait patients. This system makes the rule-based representation that can easily extend the knowledge-base and naturally represent the uncertainty, and the inference engine that uses forward chaining which covers the reasoning from the first condition to the goal. The results of inferring various maladies using this system are as follows: 1) In cases of progressive muscular dystrophy, cerebral vascular accident, peripheral neuropathic lesion and peroneal nerve injury, the result of inference is the same as that of medical specialists' with 100% accuracy. 2) In cases of Neuritis, Paralysis agitan and Brain tumor, the accuracy of inference is less than 50% compared to that of medical specialists. With above results, we decide that the rule-based representations of some maladies ard accurate relatively, but that the correction and the extention of some rules and some methods of problem solving are required in order to construct the complete expert system for diagnosis of abnormal gait patients.

  • An expert system to help a novice engineer in designing midship section is developed. The system is developed based on a general-purpose expert system shell, NEXPERT. Firstly, the design knowledge is extracted from an existing rule scantling program. The knowledge has been grouped and structured into a hierarchy by applying object-oriented concepts. Secondly, the knowledge base is integrated with a database of existing ships and engineering analysis modules through the Application Programming Interface(API)technique. Graphical User Interface which is developed using Motif wiget set is adopted. These altogether enable construction of an user friendly expert system.

  • Cooperative query answering provides neighborhood or associate information relevant to the initial query using the knowledge about the query and data. In this paper, we present an intelligent query answering system for suporting cooperative query answering system presented in this paper performs query relaxation process using hybrid knowledge base. The hybrid knowledge base which is used for relaxation of queries, composes of semantic list and rule based knowledge base for structural approach. Futhermore, this paper proposes the query relaxation algorithm for query reformulation using initial query on the basis of hybrid knowledge base.

  • Trouble shooting of modern machine tools equipped with sophisticated electronic as well as mechanical parts is so difficult that it is usually depends upon the experience and accumulated knowledge of the diagnosing persons. On the other hand, tool users are scattered in wide area, which makes it expensive for a machine tool maker to run a vast service network. An unmanned diagnosis system to which users can have access at all times could be an efficient alternative. For this purpose, a rule-based expert system for diagnosing machine tools is developed. This paper describes the structure of diagnostic knowledge, the rule firing mechanism, the diagnosis flow, and user query process. An example shows the feasibility of problem solving on site without help of a service expert from machine tool maker.

  • An image processing and decision making method for the Automatic Surveillance System is proposed. The aim of our Automatic Surveillance System is to detect a moving object and make a decision on whether it is human or not. Various object features such as the ratio of the width and the length of the moving object, the distance dispersion between the principal axis and the object contour, the eigenvectors, the symmetric axes, and the areas if the segmented region are used in this paper. These features are not the unique and decisive characteristics for representing human Also, due to the outdoor image property, the object feature information is unavoidably vague and inaccurate. In order to make an efficient decision from the information, we use a fuzzy rules base system ai an approximate reasoning method. The fuzzy rules, combining various object features, are able to describe the conditions for making an intelligent decision. The fuzzy rule base system is initially constructed by heuristic approach and then, trained and tasted with input/output data Experimental result are shown, demonstrating the validity of our system.

  • In mechanical structure design area, many FEM (Finite Element Method) packages are used. But the design using FEM packages depends on an iterative trial and error manner and general CAD systems cannot cope with the change of parameters. This paper presents a methodology for building a designing system of a mechanical structure. This system can generate the drawing for a designed structure automatically. It consists of three steps: generation of a structure by selection of the parameters, stress analysis, and generation of a drawing using CAD system. FEM module and parametric CAD module are developed for this system. Inference engine module generates the parameters with a rule base and a model base, and also evaluates the current structure. The parametric design module generates geometric shapes automatically with given dimension. Parametric design is implemented with the artificial intelligent technique. In older to the demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed system, a frame set of bicycle was designed. The system was implemented on an SUN workstation using C language under OpenWindows environment.

  • Snow accretion on transmission lines may cause critical accidents such as sleet jump, tower collpases, etc,. In order to assist power system operators to prevent thses accidents, aprototype expert system had been developed. The system has basic functions of forecasting snow accretion on transmission lines and making a list of all feasible and effective deicing countermeasures. The knowledge of the effect of weather conditions on the snow accretion process continue main rule base. Simulation results show that the proposed system is very promising.

  • In recent years, many companies have heavily invested in introducing production informatization systems in order to strengthen the competitiveness and to satisfy consumer's desires in quickly changing market environment. However, it is not effective due to the lack of understanding of systems and of non-existence of an optimal system for each company. Therefore, in this paper, manufacturing companies were classified according to its properties; size of the firm, type of business, production method and job production. After that, a model has been built to calculate the production informatization level, and it has been applied to 450 companies. Results of 450 surveys would be the base for figuring out strategies of introducing the production informatization to the companies which are wishing to build production informatization systems. Finally, Developed in this paper rule base system refer customized guideline to company that wants to adapt production information system.

  • A design expert system for the ship structural design is developed to support inexperienced designers. To establish the knowledge-base, an expert system development shell, Nexpert, is used. Knowledge is extracted from the rules of a classification society of ships, and also from an existing ship structural program that is being used by ship designers. This knowledge is systematized using the objectoriented concept. The design support system is constructed by adding additional functions which are required for the conventional engineering design work. Added functions are; calculation of longitudinal strength, database of existing ship designs, graphical user interface, and visualization of design results. It is observed that visualizing the relationships among the rules, which are activated to draw a certain design decision, is helpful. The system can easily be updated according to changes of the rule books of ship classification societies.

  • This paper deals with the development of an expert process design system interfaced with CAD for porismatic parts in injection mold manufacture. The developed CAD/CAPP system consists of two modules such as CAD interface module and process design module. Parts are represented using AutoCAD system on the IBM PC/AT. CAD interface module recognizes form features and manufacturing features of the part using form feature recognition algorithm and manufacturing feature recognition rule base. Process design module selects operations and determines machine tools, cutting tools and operation sequencing by using knowledge base which is acquired from expert process planners. A case study is implemented to evaluate feasibilities of the function of the proposed system. The CAD/CAPP system can improve the efficiency of process design activities and reduce the time required for process design.
