This research was conducted to evaluate the adhesion in tension of the polymer mortars for cement concrete repair. Various polymer types, binder ratios, and wet/dry conditions of the surface were considered in this study. Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) and ethylen vinyl acetate (EVA) used for polymer cement mortars. Epoxy resin (EP), and unsaturated polyester resin (UP) were used for polymer mertars. Adhesion in tension for the dry condition of the substrate surface was higher than that for the wet condition of the substrate surface under the same binder ratio. Therefore, in repairing concrete, the dry surface condition was effective on adhesion.
For $CO_2-free$ hydrogen production and better utilization of the produced carbon, catalytic decomposition of methane over rubber-grade carbon blacks manufactured from coal tar was carried out. The catalytic activities of several domestic carbon blacks were compared. A pelletized carbon black exhibited considerably lower activity and activation energy than the fluffy( loose) carbon black of the same grade. This difference is considered due to the binder that was added during pelletization. For pelletized carbon blacks, a tendency was observed that the activity per unit mass of catalyst increased with the specific surface area of the carbon black. Another tendency was also observed that the activation energy increased with the primary particle size or decrease of the specific surface area.
Recently, instead of a matched die forming method requiring a high cost and long delivery term, a multi-point dieless forming method using a pair of matrix type punch array as flexible dies has been developed. Since the conventional multi-point dieless forming method has some disadvantages of difficulty in precise punch control and high-cost of equipment, a new concept of multi-point dieless forming method combined with an elasto-forming method has been suggested in this study. For optimal selection of elastomers, compression tests of rubbers, polyethylene and foams were carried out together with FEM analysis of the deformation behavior during sheet forming process using a rigid punch and elastomers. Compressive strain was concentrated on the upper central area of the elastomer under the punch, and the rubber exhibited higher concentration of the compressive strain than foams. Two-dimensional curved surface was formed successfully by the multi-point elasto-dieless forming method using an optimal combination of rubber and foam materials.

Tracking is one of the biggist problems to be overcome in polymeric materials for outdoor insulators. But It can be decreased with the addition of filler such as alumina trihydrate (ATH). In this paper, the tracking of surface and evaluation of insulating ability at silicone rubber is investigated, using the salt fog test. At initial state, the peak leakage current and numbers by dry band arcing is increasing with increasing the filler level, but at aged state decreasing at high concentration filler samples. This is because the roughness of the surface may contribute to the increase in peak leakage cur-rent and numbers. As increasing the filler level, the insulating ability of materials is higher and weight loss is decreased. The mechanism of insulating failure is occurred by the erosion than the tracking and the erosion caused weight loss of 2 g.
Polymer insulating materials are widely used in power distribution and transmission systems for their good dielectric properties, light weight, low cost, and good contamination performance. Tracking is one of the biggest problems to be overcome in polymer insulating materials. The alumina trihydrate(ATH) is widely used as a filler for improve the tracking performance of silicone rubber. In this paper, we have investigated the influence of surface treatment of fillers on the tracking performance of silicone insulator using the IEC 587 tracking test method.
In this study, we investigated the electrical characteristics of silicone rubber that being used outdoor insulating material, which had been immersed in salt water. After immersed the sample in salt water, we measured surface hydrophobicity, weight loss and microscopic surface appearance, and then compared with these of the original. And we tested the electrical characteristics of the aged sample by the water under salt-fog. These electrical characteristics are described by the average of leakage current, peak pulse number, which are recorded by data acquisition system The experimental results show that the resistance against tracking and erosion is decreased significantly by water penetration.
Fundamental properties and surface treatment effects of domestic kaolin calcined at higher temperature were studied to develop reinforcing fillers for rubbers. The results obtained are as follows: (i) X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy studies revealed kaolinite as a major constituent of the raw kaolin used in this study. (ii) Physical properties of natural rubber vulcanizates compounded with the calcined kaolin fillers treated with poly(maleic anhydride) and sodium polyphosphate are favorably improved. Particularly, the kaolin filler treated with sodium polyphosphate(designated as PT series) shows excellent physical properties compared with hydrated silica.
