A Study on Adhesion Friction Characteristics of Rubber for Tire Tread

  • Rubber friction properties include adhesion friction characteristics of the interface, hysteresis friction characteristics originating from repeated rubber deformations, and cohesion friction characteristics due to wear and tear. Cohesion friction is generally sufficiently small (< 3%) that it can be ignored, whereas adhesion friction has a relatively large contribution of 15%, but has not been investigated thoroughly. Therefore, through an adhesion friction study, the adhesion mechanism was examined and the relationship between friction characteristics and adhesion friction on dry surfaces was derived. The wet grip characteristics of tread rubber are fully described by the hysteresis characteristics of tires, but friction characteristics on dry roads are difficult to determine without adhesion factors. The results presented herein demonstrate that the combination of hysteresis and adhesion properties in the tread rubber sufficiently explained the characteristics of the dry grip. Based on the results of this study, technologies will be developed to determine the key factors governing adhesion friction characteristics and improve dry tire braking performance.

  • Styrene butadiene rubber (SBR)/ 카렬블랙 복합체의 전기저항 특성과 전기전도 특성을 연구하기 위하여 표면저항, 체적저항, point to point 저항, 정전하 소멸시간 및 전기전도 실험을 4종의 카본블랙을 사용하여 실시하였다. 약 50phr의 카본블랙이 첨가되었을 때, 모든 저항값이 급격히 감소하는 임계영역 (Rc)을 나타내었다. 카본블랙이 첨가된 SBR 복합체의 전류밀도는 전기장의 증가에 따라 증가하며, 기울기 (dJ/dE)가 증가하는 임계점 (Pc)이 존재하였으며, 이때의 전기전도기구는 임계점을 기준으로 하여 낮은 전기장 영역에서는 ohmic 전도, 높은 전기장 영역에서는 공간전하 제한전도임을 알 수 있었다.

SBR 컴파운드의 가황 및 기계적 성질에 미치는 카본블랙 표면의 화학적 개질의 영향 (Effects of Chemical Surface Modification of Carbon Black on Vulcanization and Mechanical Properties of Styrene-Butadiene Rubber Compound)

  • 카본블랙의 화학적 표면개질에 따른 영향을 조사하기 위해 3종류 화학약품(KOH, $H_3PO_4$, 벤젠)을 이용하여 카본블랙 표면을 처리하였으며, 이를 함유한 스티렌-부타디엔 고무(SBR)의 가황특성과 기계적 특성을 조사하였다. 산(HCB)이나 염기(KCB)로 표면 처리할 경우 표면 자유에너지의 증가가 관찰된 반면, 벤젠(BCB)의 경우 미세한 증가만이 관찰되었다. London 비극성 성분은 BCB가 가장 높았다. 각 표면처리 카본블랙을 함유한 SBR 컴파운드의 가황반응의 빠르기는 KCB-SBR>BCB-SBR>VCB- SBR(무처리)>HCB-SBR의 순으로 나타났다. 일반적으로 가교도를 나타내는 가황곡선상의 최대토오크와 최소토오크의 차이는 VCB-SBR, KCB-SBR, HCB-SBR에 비해 BCB-SBR이 높은 값을 나타내었다. BCB-SBR과 KCB-SBR의 경우 인장특성과 동적기계적 특성이 증진되었다. 표면자유에너지 중 London 비극성 요소와 기계적 특성간에는 비례관계가 있음이 확인되었다.

  • Silicone rubber have presently been using in large number for a variety of outdoor HV applications. Silicone rubber have the properties of low surface energy and are able to retain its hydrophobicity or water repellency, thereby suppress the leakage current in the present of moisture and contamination. In this paper, we investigated the recovery characteristics of silicone rubber by measuring the leakage current under salt-fog.

  • Fundamental and specific properties of the tennis ball on rubber ball body are surveyed to match the quality of the tennis ball now on applied in the tennis game, 1. Much dose of filler of non-crystalline or flat form applied to rubber compounding than general procedure and over vulcanization is found excellent in the resistant to gas permeability. 2. Flat curing improved characteristics of the ball on the homogenous rebounds when applied on the specified concrete surface. 3. Satisfactory adhesive power is found with Desmodur R and standard rubber recipe in case of applying on the under-vulcanizate of half sphere. 4. The stable gas-generating compounds of sodiun nitrate, ammonium chloride, water and sodium carbonate, anhydorus help controlling of optimum internal over-pressure in the tall.

  • In this work, the reinforcing action of carbon blacks in rubber was investigated by SEM and UTM measurements which at low a testing of the surface and mechanical properties. In order to gain an insight into the different properties between carbon blacks before and after methane/propane decomposition, various composites were prepared with SBR synthetic rubber and different carbon blacks with four loading ratios. The results were analyzed with the aim of finding suitable conditions for decomposition reaction to cut down the net cost for hydrogen production through hydrocarbon decomposition.

  • A number of variables and environment are concerned for the basic design of train. The design of train ran be optimized by the ruining simulation. And using the simulation result the consuming energy, regenerating power, adhesion coefficient, train traction control capacity are respectable. Considering these variables and for more information operating time, operating period, standard velocity and limit speed, the all factors of train are optimized. The light-tail tram is mainly divided into linear motor train, road surface train, iron wheel train and rubber tire train, and the most profitable one for adhesion coefficient is rubber tire train and the train will be designed.

  • This paper investigated the aging characteristic under long-term corona discharge on roan temperature vulcanized silicone rubber, which has been using as a protective coating material for solving the contaminant problem. The applied electrical field is 10kV/cm ac and corona discharge treatment was applied on RTV silicone rubber sheet for maximum 250 hours. With the duration of corona discharge. the diffusible low molecular weight species increased, which was determined the usage of n-hexane extraction method. In addition, the contaminant layer was formed on the treated surface, and then measured the contact angle. We investigated the relation of contact angle and diffusible low molecular weight species. It is found that scissor of main chain PDMS and side chains $(CH_3)$ and the generation of LMW species were occurred by a corona discharge. The improvement of hydrophobicity rate is thought due to the increase of diffusible LMW species.

  • UV를 이용하여 반응성 모노머인 아크릴아미드를 SBR에 광그라프트 시키는데 있어서 주요한 인자인 모노머 농도, 조사시간 그리고 카본블랙의 함량이 모노머의 그라프트율에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 광개시제로는 benzophenone을 사용하였다. 아크릴아미드의 그라프트율을 측정하기 위하여 FT-IR ATR과 증류수를 이용하여 정접촉각을 측정하였다. 아크릴아미드의 함량과 UV 조사시간이 증가함에 따라 그라프트율은 증가하였으며 또한 접촉각은 감소하는 현상을 나타내었다. SBR중 카본블랙 함량이 증가함에 따라 그라프트율이 증가함을 알 수 있었다.

Cure Characteristics, Mechanical Properties and Abrasion Resistance of Silica Filled Natural Rubber Vulcanizate

  • Silica which is used for reinforcing filler in tire industry is widely known as eco-friendly material exerting $CO_2$ reduction effect through decrease of rolling resistance and improvement of wet grip. Generally silica is classified as a highly polar filler because it contains a large number of silanol (Si-OH) group on its surface. And also silica gives a lower reinforcing effect than carbon black due to its poorer rubber-filler interaction. Therefore silica is treated with silane coupling agent or activator, then following the conventional rubber blend method, vulcanized sheets were prepared using a hot press, and cure characteristics, mechanical properties and abrasion resistance of the test specimens were investigated. It was found that with an increase in the silane coupling agent content the tensile strength, 300% modulus and abrasion resistance increased while Mooney viscosity decreased and crosslink density slightly increased with an increase of activator.
