With the introduction of the concept such as QoS, QoE, and MOS for the multimedia services over the high-speed network the user's concern about the degradation in the perceived quality of service for the conventional data service has become a new problem to the Internet service providers. In this work we propose a method to evaluate the subjective QoE such as MOS for the high-speed Internet service, where the round trip time for the data transfer is taken into account as a performance parameter for the experienced delay. We develop a tool to evaluate an MOS that enables us to investigate the behavior of users for diverse delay times for the web access service, via which we analyze the sensitivity of users with regard to MOS as a function of delay.

TCP has improved by many papers which suggest the new algorithms and modify the previous algorithms. This paper compares Tahoe, Reno, New-Reno, Vegas, and SACK. The first version is Tahoe and is globally used. Reno has optimal performance during occurring one packet loss within a window of data, but can suffer from performance when multiple packets are dropped from a window of data. New-Reno avoids some of the performance problems of Reno TCP when multiple packets are dropped from a window of data. but is occurring the problem of the necessary retransmission. SACK resolves the all above problems and is used in bandwidth delay product environment. Vegas uses network bandwidth more efficiently and is a new implementation of TCP that achieves between 40 and 70 better throughput, with one-fifth to one-half the losses, as compared to the implementation of Reno TCP.

Various studies such as INS(: Inertial Navigation System) are conducting to estimate the position of UAV, because the GPS information of UAV is at risk like the GPS jamming. The position estimation using DoA and RTT are used to apply many radar systems, and that process can be applied in datalink of UAV. The general monopulse feed in UAV datalink is Multi-horn, because of the wide BW(: Band Width) and frequency range. And it needs wide SNR range of tracking because of the limited transmit power of airborne unit. The estimation error of position increase at low SNR, and the DoA is valid in only 3dB beam width but high SNR causes false of mainlobe detection because of large sidelobe. In this paper, We propose the method to achieve higher accuracy of DoA estimation on low SNR and review some idea that able to detect mainlobe.

In this paper, we propose a sender-based TCP congestion control scheme for downward vertical handover (DVHO), in which mobile node moves from a cellular network to a wireless LAN. DVHO can give rise to severe performance problems in TCP throughput because it causes a drastic change of link characteristics. Particularly, TCP executes falsely congestion control by packet reordering, which is occurred from link delay difference between a cellular link and a wireless LAN link. Therefore, the congestion window is reduced. And unnecessary retransmissions wastes bandwidth. To solve these problems, we propose a method using estimated round-trip time in cellular link to process duplicated ACKs from reordering. Furthermore, the duplicated ACKs are used to the control congestion window size. Simulation result shows that the proposed scheme can solve problems. Moreover, the proposed scheme can have better performance than TCP New Reno and nodupack.
Previous works for the assured service in the Diffserv network have no sufficient consideration on the fairness of bandwidth share based on RTTs and the target rates of TCP flows. In this paper, in order to solve these problems, we propose a TRA3CM(Target rate and RTT Aware 3 Color Marking) mechanism. The TRA3CM mechanism provides three color marking and fair transmission rates among aggregate flows by considering RTT and target rate simultaneously. In case of higher target rate than bottleneck bandwidth, the TRA3CM mechanism is able to mitigate the RTT effect and provides fair transmission rates. In the results of comparing the performance among existing mechanisms and the TRA3CM, the TRA3CM mechanism was able to mitigate the RTT effect better than the former. The TRA3CM is shown to provide good performance for transmission rates proportional to various target rates.

Satellite communication is a wide area network (WAN) which provides communication service worldwide. However, the performance of TCP can be seriously degraded in the satellite networks due to limited bandwidth, long round-trip time (RTT) and high bit error rate (BER) over satellite links. In order to improve the performance of TCP, this paper proposes cross-layer Performance Enhancing Proxy (PEP) in digital video broadcasting-return channel via satellite (DVB-RCS) networks. The proposed protocol sets TCP Congestion Window (CWND) size by using satellite resource allocation information exchanged between TCP and the link-layer. we implement PEP testbed based on Linux to evaluate the performance of the proposed protocol. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol performs better than standard TCP both in single and multiple sessions in variant BER, because the proposed protocol sets TCP CWND size by using satellite resource allocation.

Collaborative research in science applications based on HPC service needs rapid transfers of massive data between research colleagues over wide area network. With regard to this requirement, researches on enhancing data transfer performance between major superfacilities in the U.S. have been conducted recently. In this paper, we deploy multiple data transfer nodes(DTNs) over high-speed science networks in order to move rapidly large amounts of data in the parallel filesystem of KISTI's Nurion supercomputer, and perform transfer experiments between endpoints with approximately 130ms round trip time. We have shown the results of transfer throughput in different size file sets and compared them. In addition, it has been confirmed that the DTN cluster with three nodes can provide about 1.8 and 2.7 times higher transfer throughput than a single node in two types of concurrency and parallelism settings.

Multi-path system is a system in which utilizes various networks simultaneously. It is expected that multi-path system can enhance communication speed, reliability, security of network. In this paper, we focus on path selection in multi-path system. To select optimal path, we propose deep reinforcement learning algorithm which is rewarded by the round-trip-time (RTT) of each networks. Unlike multi-armed bandit model, deep Q learning is applied to consider rapidly changing situations. Due to the delay of RTT data, we also suggest compensation algorithm of the delayed reward. Moreover, we implement testbed learning server to evaluate the performance of proposed algorithm. The learning server contains distributed database and tensorflow module to efficiently operate deep learning algorithm. By means of simulation, we showed that the proposed algorithm has better performance than lowest RTT about 20%.
HTTP is one of the most widely used protocols of the WWW. Currently it uses TCP as the transport layer protocol to provide reliability. The HTTP uses separate TCP connection for each file request and adds unnecessary head-of-line blocking overhead for the file retrieval. The web application is short sized and affected by the increased handover latency of TCP in wireless environment. SCTP has attractive features such as multi-streaming and multi-homing. SCTP's multi-streaming and multi-homing avoid head-of-line blocking problem of TCP and reduce handover latency of TCP in wired and wireless environment. Mean response time is the important measure in most web application. In this paper, we present the comparison of mean response time between HTTP over SCTP with that of HTTP over TCP in wired and wireless environments using NS-2 simulator. We measured mean response time for varying packet loss rate, bandwidth, RTT, and the number of web objects in wired environment and mean response time and packet loss rate for varying moving speed and region size in wireless environment. Our experimental result shows that SCTP reduces the mean response time of TCP based web traffic.
This case report suggests the potential effects of Korean medicine for the gait disturbance and posture instability of Multiple System Atrophy-Parkinsonism (MSA-P). A patient with MSA-P who had gait disturbance and posture instability was given a series of Korean medicine, including acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, electro-acupuncture, moxibustion, and herbal medicine, for 15 days of hospitalization. During the hospitalization period, the severity and progression of the disease was measured with the Unified Multiple System Atrophy Rating Scale (UMSARS) and a video recording of a 20-meter round timed walking test. The UMSARS Part I and II scores decreased from 14 to 5 and 9 to 5, respectively. An improvement was also noted in standing and walking posture, and the walking time was shortened from 30 to 25 seconds in the 20-meter round-trip walking test. Dysarthria, dysphagia, and non-motoring symptoms like sleep behavioral disorders and constipation were also improved. The findings of this case study suggest that this series of Korean medicine has potential therapeutic effects for patients with MSA-P with motor and non-motor symptoms.
