A Comparison of System Performances Between Rectangular and Polar Exponential Grid Imaging System (POLAR EXPONENTIAL GRID와 장방형격자 영상시스템의 영상분해도 및 영상처리능력 비교)

  • The conventional machine vision system which has uniform rectangular grid requires tremendous amount of computation for processing and analysing an image especially in 2-D image transfermations such as scaling, rotation and 3-D reconvery problem typical in robot application environment. In this study, the imaging system with nonuiformly distributed image sensors simulating human visual system, referred to as Ploar Exponential Grid(PEG), is compared with the existing conventional uniform rectangular grid system in terms of image resolution and computational complexity. By mimicking the geometric structure of the PEG sensor cell, we obtained PEG-like images using computer simulation. With the images obtained from the simulation, image resolution of the two systems are compared and some basic image processing tasks such as image scaling and rotation are implemented based on the PEG sensor system to examine its performance. Furthermore Fourier transform of PEG image is described and implemented in image analysis point of view. Also, the range and heading-angle measurement errors usually encountered in 3-D coordinates recovery with stereo camera system are claculated based on the PEG sensor system and compared with those obtained from the uniform rectangular grid system. In fact, the PEC imaging system not only reduces the computational requirements but also has scale and rotational invariance property in Fourier spectrum. Hence the PEG system has more suitable image coordinate system for image scaling, rotation, and image recognition problem. The range and heading-angle measurement errors with PEG system are less than those of uniform rectangular rectangular grid system in practical measurement range.

  • Background: The abdominal drawing-in maneuver (ADIM), a method of lumbar stabilization training, is an effective neuromuscular intervention for lumbar instability associated with low back pain (LBP). Objects: The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of a 2-week period of the ADIM and tensor fasciae latae-iliotibial band (TFL-ITB) self-stretching on lumbopelvic rotation angle, lumbopelvic rotation movement onset, TFL-ITB length, and pain intensity during active prone hip lateral rotation. Methods: Twenty-two subjects with lumbar extension rotation syndrome accompanying shortened TFL-ITB (16 males and 6 females) were recruited for this study. The subjects were instructed how to perform ADIM training or ADIM training plus TFL-ITB self-stretching program at home for a 2-week period. A 3-dimensional ultrasonic motion analysis system was used to measure the lumbopelvic rotation angle and lumbopelvic rotation movement onset. An independent t-test was used to determine between-group differences for each outcome measure (lumbopelvic rotation angle, lumbopelvic rotation movement onset, TFL-ITB length, and pain intensity). Results: The results showed that ADIM training plus TFL-ITB self-stretching decreased the lumbopelvic rotation angle, delayed the lumbopelvic rotation movement onset, and elongated the TFL-ITB significantly more than did ADIM training alone. Pain intensity was lower in the ADIM training plus TFL-ITB self-stretching group than the ADIM training alone group; however, the difference was not significant. Conclusion: ADIM training plus TFL-ITB self-stretching performed for a 2-week period at home may be an effective treatment for modifying lumbopelvic motion and reducing LBP.

  • The technique for measuring the rotational speed of tappet in direct acting type valve train system has been developed. The optic signal monitoring system with laser and optic fiber was designed to follow the signal of tappet rotation. The system was based on ON/OFF signal generation from the additional encoder teeth under the tappet with optic fibers attached photo transistor. The data showed that tappet rotation was affected by offset, oil temperature and cam shaft operating speed. Also it was found that tappet rotation increases with oil temperature. Tappet spin was delayed 10∼s20$^{\circ}$ cam angle after valve opening. The instantaneous rotational speed of tappet was reciprocal to cam shaft speed and the tappet and the cam angle ratio was located in the range of 0.1∼0.3.

  • A new method for the determination of camera system rotation and translation from in 3-D space using recursive least square method is presented in this paper. With this method, the calculation of the equation is found by a linear algorithm. Where the equation are either given or be obtained by solving five or more point correspondences. Good results can be obtained in the presence if more than the eight point. A main advantage of this new method is that it decouple rotation and translation, and then reduces computation. With respect to error in the solution point number in the input image data, adding one more feature correspondence to required minimum number improves the solution accuracy drastically. However, further increase in the number of feature correspondence improve the solution accuracy only slowly. The algorithm proposed by this paper is used to make camera system rotation and translation easy to recognize even when camera system attached at end effecter of six degrees of freedom industrial robot manipulator are applied industrial field.

  • The axes of upper forearm coordinate system have been considered as principal axis of each segment which was component of elbow joint. The purpose of this study was to verify whether the mean direction(principal axis) of instantaneous axes of rotation for pure flexion/extension motion coincided with the flexion/extension axis of upper forearm coordinate system. The same procedure was done for pronation/supination motion. Furthermore, it was tested indirectly that there was an interaction effect between the two rotational motions. The results showed that most segment coordinate axes statistically were not consistent with the mean directions of flexion/extension and pronation/supination axes of rotation. From the results, it would be concluded that the ISB coordinate systems was proved to be a little valid for human movement analysis. There also was an effect of pronation/supination angles on flexion/extension motion.

  • In this study, we improve the performance of a speech recognition system of visual information depending on lip movements. This paper focuses on the robustness of the word recognition system with the rotation, transition and scaling of the lip images. The different methods of lipreading have been used to estimate the stability of recognition performance. Especially, we work out the special system of the log-polar mapping, which is called Mellin transform with quasi RTS-invariant and related approaches to machine vision. The results of word recognition are reported with HMM (Hidden Markov Model) recognition system.

Sustenance and Enhancement of Soil Fertility for Organic Farming by Legumes and Green Manure (두과.녹비작물 재배를 통한 유기농법 토양비옥도의 유지와 증진)

  • An organic agriculture should be managed by mixed farming in farm unit as a closed recycling system. Due to restricted purchased of fertilizers from outside, organic farmer has to deal with limited amount of nutrient source in farm unit. Especially the supply of the essential nutrient, nitrogen, mostly depends on legumes fixing nitrogen optimizing the site-adapted crop rotation. Dynamics of humus and metabolic plant carbon and active soil carbon compartment in active and passive humuspool by rotation system was explained, and dynamics of potentially mineralizable nitrogen in organic nitrogen and biomass was discussed. It was also discussed comparison of ammonia emission, potential greenhouse effect, primary energy input, acidification potential, CO2 emission between organic and conventional farming, the nitrate-nitrogen dynamic in the soil profile by organic, integrated and conventional farming system. In conclusion, it was suggested for Korean Organic Agriculture that the importance of legumes and green manures in rotation system for increase/maintenance of soil ferfility, and was pointed out the need of investment for environment impact of Korean organic farming implement.

Crop Combinations and Rotation Years for Paddy-Upland Cropping System in Middle Part of Korea (중부지역 답전윤환에 적합한 전작물 윤환년수와 논작부체계)

  • To find out suitable crops and their rotation years with rice for paddy-upland rotation, continuous rice cropping and rice with 1, 2 and 3 years cropping of upland crops(soybean, maize and job's tears) were tested for four years from 1989 to 1992. Rice yield, when averaged over rotation years for each crop, was increased ranging from 7% to 12% when compared with that of continuous rice cropping. With every crop, rice yield of 2 year upland rotation was higher than that of 1 year upland rotation, but rice quality seemed to deteriorate in paddy-upland rotation. When considering yields of the upland crops, 1 year rotation was the best condition for soybean and job's tears, with 3 years rotation being the best for maize. In paddy-upland rotation, number of weed species and its occurrence rates were reduced in paddy and upland condition and the reduction rates in paddy condition were higher than those in upland condition. Physical properties of soil were improved in paddy-upland rotation and airphase seemed to increase with increasing upland period.

  • A difficulty of the visual inspection for translated, magnified and rotated objects exists owing to the limitation of recognition rate. In this paper, we perform to define Integral Logarithm Transform(ILT), to consider its characteristic for implementation of Translation-, Magnification- and Rotation-invariant inspection system, and to compare with other methods in inspection error rate. By using magnification and rotation invariance properties of ILT, it makes easier than other methods to extract the rotation degree. The new method employs the ILT for the good/bad inspection of translated, magnified and rotated objects and experiment is performed to achieve translation, magnification and rotation invariance. In other methods both magnification and rotation invariance can't be available. As the result of he experiment, it is not better than the self-organizing map in the improvement of recognition rate, but it shows us the possibility to be used as a tool for the good/bad inspection system.

  • This paper analyzes the navigation error for each rotational motion in order to design an optimal rotation sequence, which is a key technology in the rotational inertial navigation. Rotational inertial navigation system is designed to cancel out navigation errors caused by inertial sensor errors by periodically rotating the inertial measurement unit. A properly sequenced rotational motion cancels out the maximum amount of navigation error and is known as an optimal rotation sequence. To design such an optimal turning procedure, this paper identifies the feasible rotational motions that can be implemented in a rotational inertial navigation system and analyzes the navigation error introduced by each rotational motion. In addition, by analyzing the characteristics of the navigation error generated during a rotation sequence in combination, this paper presents the conditions for designing an optimal rotation sequence.
