  • On the basis of successful experiences and data from author's past experimental results of friction stir welding on thin aluminum plates, thick aluminum plate of high strength 2000 series has been carried out in this study. For various combination of rotating speed, welding speed and tool (RIWRC38-C) shape, the butt welded specimens has been prepared to check the metallurgical characteristics, hardness distributions and defects. From the results, feasible welding conditions have been obtained as 450 rpm rotating speed and 5 mm/min welding speed. Using these optimum welding parameters, 38.1mm-thickness A2519-T87 plates have been FSWelded in single pass. A good weld surface appearance and defects free weld zone has been observed in X-ray inspection. Softened region has been generated by dissolution of precipitates and coarsened microstructure in the stir zone after FSWeld.

COUETTE FLOW OF TWO IMMISCIBLE LIQUIDS BETWEEN TWO PARALLEL POROUS PLATES IN A ROTATING CHANNEL

  • When a straight channel formed by two parallel porous plates, through which two immiscible liquids occupying different heights are flowing a secondary motion is set up. The motion is caused by moving the upper plate with a uniform velocity about an axis perpendicular to the plates. The solutions are exact solutions. Here we discuss the effect of suction parameter and the position of interface on the flow phenomena in case of Couette flow. The velocity distributions for the primary and secondary flows have been discussed and presented graphically. The skin-friction amplitude at the upper and lower plates has been discussed for various physical parameters.

타원편광 분석기에서 정렬오차와 사분파장판의 지연오차로 인한 뮬러 매트릭스 오차 분석 (Comparison of Misalignment and Retardation Errors of Dual Rotating Quarter-Wave Plates in Muller-Matrix Ellipsometry)

  • 두 개의 회전하는 사분파장판을 가진 타원편광분석기에서 광학계가 오차를 포함하지 않는 경우와 5가지의 체계적 오차(두 개의 사분파장판의 정렬오차와 지연오차, 검광판의 정렬오차)를 포함하는 경우에 측정신호를 핏팅하여 구한 퓨리어 계수와 뮬러매트릭스와의 관계를 분석하였다. 5가지 체계적 오차를 포함하는 경우 전산모사를 이용해 비교 분석한 결과 사분파장판의 지연 오차가 정렬오차보다 뮬러매트릭스 대각선 요소에 야기하는 오차가 더 크다는 것을 찾아내었다. 각속도의 회전비를 1:5로 선택시 첫 번째 사분파장판의 초기 정렬오차와 두 번째 사분 파장판의 초기 정렬오차가 뮬러 매트릭스에 야기하는 오차가 같다는 것을 전모사를 통해 찾아 내었다. 5가지 체계적인 오차를 전산모사를 통해 분석한 결과 검광판의 정렬오차(${\epsilon}_5$)가 야기하는 뮬러 매트릭스 오차와 사분파장판의 정렬오차(${\epsilon}_3$, ${\epsilon}_4$)가 야기하는 뮬러 매트릭스 오차를 비교하면 대각선 요소($m_{22}$$m_{33}$)의 상대 오차는 0.18%이며 비 대각선요소($m_{23}$$m_{32}$)는 2배 차이가 남을 찾아내었다. 이 결과들을 활용하여 측정대상 물질의 보다 정확한 뮬러매트릭스를 얻을 수 있다.

고체로켓 모사장치 내삽노즐 주위의 와류튜브 가시화 (Visualization of Vortex Tube near Submerged Nozzle in Simulator of Solid Rocket Motor)

  • A flow visualization near submerged nozzle of solid rocket motor was conducted by experiments. A numerical simulation was also performed to reveal detailed phenomena. Radial cold flow simulating hot gas was introduced by a porous grain model which was manufactured by perforated steel plates. The grain model was mounted in high-pressure chamber which has quartz glass at the top of the grain model. From the high-speed images, a rotating vortex was observed and the two type of counter-rotating momentums were generated in numerical results. The rotating momentum was generated at the fin-slot grain because of unbalance between high-velocity flow from slots and low-velocity flow from fin-bases. As a result, roll torques can be produced by the rotating vortex tube.

  • A modeling method for the vibration analysis of rotating cantilever plastes with stiffeners is presented. The equations of motion for the plates aer derived and trnasformed into a dimensionless form. A mass density Dirac's delta function is used to idealize the stiffener mathematically. The effects of stiffeners on the model characteristics of the plate are investigated, and mode shape variations due to some parameter variation are exhibited. It is found that veering phenomena occur between some loci and associated mode shapes change significantly during the veering phenomena.

  • The capacitive type transducers measure the displacement of rotating shaft using the voltage difference which is formed between the sensor plates and rotor so that the measured signal is not affected by the magnetic field generated by the magnetic bearing. In this paper, the capacitive transducers are embedded inside of the magnetic bearing. In order to verify the support characteristics of the capacitance sensor-magnetic bearing system, we experimented and analyzed the magnetic bearing-rotating shaft system up to 12,000 rpm. The magnetic bearing system proposed in this paper, successfully supports the rotating shaft and we can remain the maximum displacement below $5 \mu m$ at 12,000 rpm.

  • Absorption rates of oxygen in water soluble inks on the printing rollers were measured. As a results of experiments, could be obtained the data of rates of absorption of oxygen in 4 kinds of water soluble inks, and found the difference of absorption rate of oxygen on the parallel plates and rotating rolles.

극직교 이방성 회전원판의 진동에 대한 횡전단변형 및 회전관성 효과 (Effects of Transverse Shear Deformation and Rotary Inertia on Vibration of Rotating Polar Orthotropic Disks)

  • 회전원판의 동적 불안정성은 회전속도를 제한하는 가장 중요한 요인이다. 복합재료를 회전원판에 적용시킬 경우 동적 안정성을 증가시킬 수 있어 경량화와 고속화를 동시에 이룰 수 있다. 티모쉔코 효과라고 불리는 횡전단변형과 회전관성이 판 구조물의 동적거동에 미치는 영향은 많은 연구가 진행되어왔으나 원판의 회전이 이 효과에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구는 극히 제한적이며 복합재료 원판의 경우는 전무한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 티모쉔코 효과를 고려한 직교이방성 회전원판의 동적 방정식을 유도하였으며 상용 유한요소 프로그램인 MSC/NASTRAN을 이용하여 진동해석을 수행하였다. 해석결과에 따르면 특정 모드에서는 일반적으로 알려진 바와는 달리 회전수의 증가에 따라 티모쉔코 효과가 감소하다 증가하는 현상을 보였다. 또한 데이터만을 기초로 회전증가에 따른 티모쉔코 효과의 감소는 두께비가 작아질수록 증가하고, 반경비, 탄성계수 대 전단계수 비, 진동 모드 수가 커질수록 증가하는 것으로 결론지을 수 있다.

회전하는 실린더에 의한 공력소음의 계산 (Computation of Noise from a Rotating Cylinder)

  • The noise sources from a rotating cylinder were identified to describe the blunt trailing edge noise. Firstly, LES formulation was applied to a non-orthogonal grid system and was tested with three-dimensional cross-flow over a cylinder with a yaw angle. The computed far-field noise showed peaks at Strouhal numbers ranging from 0.135 to 0.165 for the yawed cylinder flow with end-plates placed at both extremes under the yaw angle of $30^{\circ}$ and Reynolds number of $1.15{\times}10^4$. It was observed that the slantwise shedding at angles other than the cylinder yaw angle is intrinsic to inclined cylinder, with the result of shedding angles between $15^{\circ}$ and $31^{\circ}$. To study the trailing-edge wake thickness and unsteady lift-coefficient distribution in the span-wise direction of a rotating fan blade, the flows around rotating cylinder with 1,000 rpm were simulated and the far-field noise was exactly computed using the Ffowcs-Williams and Hawkings equation with quadrupole source term. The incoming velocities and stagnant zones were continuously distributed along the cylinder, and their changes made the Strouhal sheddings to occur at different phases even at almost same Strouhal number.

세탁기용 유도모터의 냉각에 관한 수치적 연구 (Numerical Study on the Cooling of Induction Motor In a Washing Machine)

  • The numerical study was carried out to effectively cool Induction motor applied to a washing machine. The outer rotor made of steel periodically spins up and down. The stator consists of the thin layered iron plates and copper coil. The effective cooling system is necessary to solve the reliability problem caused by the electric losses at the coil and the iron plate. Because the heat transfer rate of the natural convection in partially open space is generally low, thus it is necessary to enhance the heat transfer using rotating perforated plate. The flow phenomena around the motor are very complex due to the motor geometry and the outer rotor motion. The mixed convection takes place due to the slow rotation speed. The three dimensional flow simulation was performed using rotating reference frame technique and Boussinesq approximation but the radiation effect was neglected. It was found that the angle and direction of the cooling blades play an important role in the stator temperature.
