축방향 유동이 있는 Taylor-Couette 유동에 대한 전산 해석 (Numerical Study of Taylor-Couette Flow with an Axial Flow)

  • The flow between two concentric cylinders, with the inner one rotating and with an imposed pressure-driven axial flow, is studied using numerical simulation. This study considers the identical flow geometry as in the experiments of Wereley and Lueptow[Phys. Fluid, 11 (12), 1999]. They carried out experiments using PIV to measure the velocity fields in a meridional plane of the annulus in detail. When an axial flow is imposed, the critical Taylor number is increased. The axial flow stabilizes the flow field and decreases the torque required to rotate the inner cylinder. The velocity vector fields obtained also show the same flow features found in the experiments of Wereley and Lueptow.

  • The performance and the internal flow of the impeller of the centrifugal chiller compressor with refrigerant R12 as working fluid were studied numerically, using CFD code, CFX-Tascflow, which is commercially available. In this numerical study, the thermodynamic and transport properties of the refrigerant gas were generated by the property program of NIST and linked with main program to extend the capability of the code to refrigerant gases. Numerical study was applied to several mass flow rates near the design mass flow rate at constant rotating speed. Overall performance and flow characteristics of the impeller at impeller exit were investigated. The results were physically reasonable and showed good agreement with experimental measurement at the design flow rate.

천음속 회전익에서의 누설유동 (Tip Leakage Flow on the Transonic Compressor Rotor)

  • It is known that tip clearance flows reduce the pressure rin, flow range and efficiency of the turbomachinery. So, the clear understanding about flow fields in the tip region is needed to efficiently design the turbomachinery. The Navier-Stokes code with the proper treatment of the boundary conditions has been developed to analyze the three-dimensional steady viscous flow fields in the transonic rotating blades and a numerical study has been conducted to investigate the detail flow physics in the tip region of transonic rotor, NASA Rotor 67. The computational results in the tip region of transonic rotors show the leakage vortices, leakage flow from pressure side to suction side and their interaction with a shock Depending on the operating conditions, the position of shock-wave on the blade surface are v8y different close to the blade tip of the transonic compressor rotor. The shock-wave position dose to the blade tip had the dose relationship with the starting position of leakage vortex and the direction of leakage flow.

  • Oil-free turbo-compressor supported by compliant foil bearings which remove oil-contamination by elimination of the conventional ball bearing and oil lubrication systems is presented. Turbo-compressor makes two individual air compression with two impellers at operating speed, 39,000rpm. In this study, the rotordynamic effects caused by aerodynamic instability were investigated with variable mass flow rate. Correlation between frequencies of pressure fluctuation in two diffusers and those of excitation forces on rotor were clearly developed in aerodynamic unsteady region. Thus, these results show that it is beneficial to design high speed rotating turbomachinery considering coupling effect between aerodynamic instability and rotordynamic force.

전단력 영역에서의 비뉴톤 유체의 열전도율 측정 (Thermal conductivity measurements of non-Newtonian fluids in a shear field)

  • An investigation was carried out to determine experimentally the thermal conductivities of non-Newtonian fluids in a shear field. Both time independent purely viscous and viscoelastic fluids were considered. A coaxial cylinder apparatus with a rotating outer cylinder was used to establish the velocity field in the test fluid. First, the thermal conductivity of distilled water measured to validate the instrument. The experimental water data agreed within 1% of literature values and there was no effect of outer cylinder rotation (shear field). However, for non-Newtonian fluids such as aqueous CMC and Separan solutions, there were significant increases in thermal conductivities of up to 70% for CMC and 50% for Separan depending on the shear rate, polymer concentration and temperature. Considering the shear rate dependent thermal conductivity in the study of heat transfer in non-Newtonian fluids could be important. As in natural convection, the momentum and energy equations could no longer be solved separately but would have to be solved simultaneously.

  • In this paper, we report the numerical and experimental solutions of the axi-symmetric flows in the axial plane driven by an impingement of fluid from the bottom wall of a circular cylinder. We managed to visualize successfully the flow pattern shown on the vertical plane through the container axis. The numerical results are not show to compare well with the experimental results for the case of the Rossby number 3. Because the numerical results calculate on the assumption that vortex flows are axi-symmetric flow on the other hand real experimental results are show asymmetric flow. The numerical solutions reveal that inertial oscillation plays an important role at small Rossby numbers, or at a larger background rotation.

고낙차 펌프-터빈에서의 축계 진동 특성 (Characteristics of the Shaft Vibration in a High Head Pump-Turbine)

  • This paper describes the shaft vibration phenomena measured on a pump-turbine ofa pumped storage power plant. The pump-turbine runs at a rotational speed of 450 rpm (7.5 Hz). The power output (load) of the pump-turbine was varied from 100 to 300 MW in the generating mode. It was found that the magnitude of the shaft vibration was highly dependent upon the power load. The vibration magnitude of the shaft vibration is very high in the middle load zone from 170 to 210 MW, elsewhere the vibration low. From vibration spectra, it was found that the frequency of major vibration in that load zone was 2.5 Hz which is approximately $34\%$ of the shaft rotating speed in Hz. This frequency component disappeared below and above that load zone. This subsynchronous vibration is caused by the flow induced disturbance due to spiral vortex flow downstream of the pump-turbine runner. Furthermore, it was found that shaft vibration was highly decreased due to the increase of bearing preload.

  • The broadband noise generated aerodynamically from a two-bladed axial flow fan has been measured and compared to the result of a self-noise prediction method. The prediction scheme is based on the experimental data set acquired from a series of aerodynamic and acoustic tests of two and three-dimensional airfoil blade sections. For low blade loading case the comparison showed a reasonably good agreement, but as the loading becomes larger the empirical formula overpredict the sound pressure level at high frequency range. This is probably due to the use of stationary wing data for the prediction of rotating blade case, which will be quite different in their vortex strength at the blade tip.

  • The rise in pressure across the impeller blade of an axial flow fan depends on the angle of attack. At a low back pressure, the air volume will be large and the angle of attack is small. The gradual increase of the back pressure approached stall zone which is not stationary but travels blade to blade passage. In consequence, a region occurs around these blades with large vibration in the flow. To avoid these stall operation, the stall detector in the axial flow fans has been designed to detect stalling condition with a manometer or differential pressure switch by electric mechanism.

  • The unbalance heavy-load elevation driving systems are composed of rotating link-mechanism and hydraulic cylinder which actuates elevation and compensates the static unbalance moment of supporting mechanism. Control and compensation of gun driving is very difficult because these mechanism imply highly nonlinearities due to hydraulic fluid characteristics and mechanical rotation of link-mechanism. In this study, through the analysis of manufactured link-mechanism, the optimal link-mechanism design of the elevating system is suggested. Also to estimate the control performance of the unbalance heavy-load elevation servo-control driving system, modeling and simulation of the system are carried out. To prove the reliability of performance estimation program,simulation results are compared with the experimental results. Both results are similar, therefore this program will be helpful to study the control performance improvement of the system.
