Development of a Water-Spraying Type Automatic Glochids Removal System for Cactus (Opuntia humifusa) Stem

  • Purpose: A water-spraying type automatic glochids removal system for cactus (Opuntia humifusa) stem was developed, and its performance was evaluated. The system was developed to reduce intensive human labor in removing glochids from cactus stem skin without inducing damage prior to further processing into value-added products. Methods: The developed system consists of conveyor and water-spraying systems. The conveyor system delivers cactus stems through water-spraying compartments and finally to a collecting box. In order to remove the glochids, rotating nozzles spray water over all areas (i.e., front and back faces and sides) of the cactus skin under controlled water pressure. Operating conditions such as conveyor speed, water pressure, angle of water-spraying nozzles, distance between conveyor belt and rotating nozzles, and angle of cactus flipping slide were adopted from our previous study and applied on the system design and manufacturing. The performance of glochids removal was evaluated by counting the number of glochids on the cactus stem before and after processing on the system. Results: The developed system performed efficiently and effectively under the pre-studied operating conditions except for the angle of cactus flipping slide. The new system had a glochids removal ratio of 94.1% without damaging the cactus skin. Considering the original number (approximately 30-60) of glochids, the remaining number was low (1-4), and most of them were found at the side edge of the cactus stem. This system can remove glochids from 360 cactus stems in 1 hr regardless of cactus size. Conclusions: The performance of the new system in glochids removal without damaging cactus skin is superior to any other existing device (i.e., brush type, rubber-friction type, and agitation type). The system is expected to be applied in cactus (O. humifusa) processing facilities.

  • The vacuum cleaner motor runs on very high speed for the suction power. Specially, the motive power is provided by the impeller being rotate on very high speed. And centrifugal fan consists of the impeller, the diffuser, and the circular casing. Due to the high rotating speed or the impeller and small gap distance between the impeller and diffuser, the centrifugal fan makes very high noise level at BPF and harmonic frequencies. In order to calculate the sound pressure of centrifugal fan, the unsteady flow data is needed. And Noise cause is dividing to fluid noise by exhaust flow of fan and vibration noise by rotational vibration of vacuum cleaner fan motor. Until now, measuring method has been used to measure vibration by the accelerometer; this method has been not measured for the vibration in some parts of brush and commutator because of motor construction and 3-D vibrating mode. This paper was purposed on the accurate analysis, using laser vibration analyzer,. By using this measured data of noise cause against the difficult part in old times, we would like to use for the design of silent fan motor.

In order to calculate the sound pressure of centrifugal fan, unsteady flow data are needed. The cause of noise is obtained by dividing the fluid noise by exhaust flow of fan and vibration noise by rotational vibration of vacuum cleaner fan motor. Until now, an accelerometer has been used to measure vibration. However, it can not measure vibration in some parts of brush and commutator because of motor construction and 3-D vibrating mode. This study was conducted to perform accurate analysis of vibration and aerodynamic sound for fan motor in a vacuum cleaner using a laser vibration analyzer. A silent fan motor can be designed using the data measured in this study.

  • The intervention area located at rear hot cell can be contaminated by hot cell maintenance work. For effective decontamination of the intervention floor a wet type decontamination device was developed. The device was assembled with a brush rotating part, a washing liquid supplying part, an intake part for recovering contaminated liquid and a device moving cart part. The device was made of stainless steel for easy decontamination and corrosion resistance. The function test carried out at intervention area of the PIE facility showed good performance.

  • We introduce a method of rendering a scene lying 3D objects which is like that artist draw on a canvas by brushing. Painting is the art area presenting something created by color and line on 2D plane. We are brushing on billboards on screen space for the 2D brushing effect according to the definition of "Painting". Brushing orientation is haven to rotate for preventing the orientation in the first scene in the case that object or camera are moving. If the brushing isn't rotated, shower-door effect is watched on the scene as undesirable result We present a brushing rotating method for keeping the orientation changing the direction of view and object rigid animation. The brushing direction is computed with Horn's 2D similarity transform by least-square solution. We watched the changing brushing to track the motion of object and view.

Effects of coconut oil pulling and professional toothbrushing on gingivitis (치은염 환자에게 적용한 오일풀링과 전문가 칫솔질법의 효과)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for gingivitis management programs by dental hygienists by evaluating the effect of oral health education, oil pulling, and professional toothbrushing on gingivitis. Methods: A total of 38 subjects were divided into three groups: control group (12 subjects), experimental group 1 (13 subjects), and experimental group 2 (13 subjects). The control and experimental groups were instructed to brush using the rotating method. Distilled water was provided to the control group after training. Coconut oil was provided every morning for about 10 minutes. In the experimental group 2, a professional brushing method was used at each visit. Results: There were no significant differences in oral health among the three groups, and there was homology between patient hygiene performance (PHP) index (p=0.144) and bleeding rate (p=0.213). The PHP index showed a significant interaction between the group and measurement time. The control and experimental groups showed changes in the PHP index with time (F=3.711; p=0.013). The bleeding rate showed a significant interaction between the group and measurement period. The control and experimental groups showed changes in the bleeding rate with time (F=6.707; p<0.001). Conclusions: Oral health education, professional toothbrushing, and oil pulling specialists in oral care of gingivitis were effective in managing gingivitis. It is necessary to educate people on self-management methods for oral health promotion using gingivitis management programs by dental hygienists.

The Effect of Various Plaque Control Devices on Roughness and Morphology of Titanium Implant Surface (다양한 치태조절기구가 타이타늄 임프란트의 표면조도와 형태에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this' study was to compare surface roughness and morphologic changes after use of various plaque control devices to titanium implant surfaces. The study materials were 6 ITI titanium implants($Bonefit^{(R)}$) and 5 plaque control devices. 6 implants were divided into 6 different groups and instrumented by each plaque control devices as follows. 1) Group I : untreated control 2) Group II : Titanium curette(Titanium $curette^{(R)}$, 3i) 80 vertical/horizontal strokes 3) Group III : Plastic curette($Implacare^{(R)}$, Hu-Friedy) 80 vertical/horizontal strokes 4) Group N : Plastic tip-ultrasonic scaler($Amdent^{(R)}$, Amdent) 160 seconds 5) Group V : Rotating interdental brush($Identobrush^{(R)}$, Identoflex) 160 seconds 6) Group VI : Abrasive rubber cup polisher($Zircate^{(R)}$, Prophy paste, Dentsply) 160 sec-onds. All specimens were prepared for evaluation by surface roughness tester, optical stereomicroscopy(OM) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The Ra and Rt mean values of the tested specimens were 1) Group I ($Ra=0.170{\pm}0.007{\mu}m$, $Rt=1.297{\pm}0.016{\mu}m$) 2) Group II ($Ra=0.209{\pm}0.006{\mu}m$, $Rt=1.602{\pm}0.110{\mu}m$) 3) Group III ($Ra=0.179{\pm}0.001{\mu}m$, $Rt=1.429{\pm}0.055{\mu}m$) 4) Group IV ($Ra=0.182{\pm}0.005{\mu}m$, $Rt=1.511{\pm}0.085{\mu}m$) 5) Group V ($Ra=0.301{\pm}0.008{\mu}m$, $Rt=1.882{\pm}0.131{\mu}m$) 6) Group VI ($Ra=0.147{\pm}0.010{\mu}m$, $Rt=1.059{\pm}0.021{\mu}m$) In Ra values, experimental group II, V, VI were statistically significant different when compared with control. OM and SEM observation showed that experimental group III, IV were minimal changes when compared with control and group VI was smoothest among other experimental groups. The results suggested that plastic curette and plastic tip-ultrasonic scaler were predictable devices to titanium implant surface.
