Analysis of load data during field operations is highly important for optimum design of power drive lines for agricultural tractor. Objective of the paper was to analyze field load data using FFT to determine frequency and the energy levels of meaningful cyclic patterns. Rotary tillage, plowing, baling, and wrapping operations were selected as major field operations of agricultural tractor. An agricultural tractor with power measurement system was used. The tractor was equipped with strain-gauge sensors to measure torque of four driving axles and a PTO axle, speed sensors to measure rotational speed of the driving axles and an engine shaft, pressure sensors to measure pressure of hydraulic pumps, an I/O interface to acquire the sensor signals, and an embedded system to calculate power requirement. In rotary tillage, calculated frequency was decreased as travel speed increased. In baler operation, calculated frequency was increased as PTO speed was increased. The calculated peak frequency levels and expected levels were similar. Results of the study would provide information on power utilization patterns and on better design of power drive lines.
The break of rotary blade is occured from a stress concentration of the inside of blade by the outside impulsive load. In order to examine its inside stress and stress concentration of rotary blade, a epoxy plate which is suitable to applicate by photoelastic system is used to experiment. These results are summarized as follow. 1. Refer to the existence of bolt hole and a size of its of rotary blade, a stress concentration which cause the break of rotary blade is not exposed. 2. It is expected to be break to section of hold of rotary blade and the break of this is due to that there are concentrated by shearing force, bending moment and bending stress. 3. When the crack which caused from processing are set up to any location, the stress concentration taken to the creak point. 4. Without regard to the location of the reaction points of rotary blade, the bending stress which is greated than the bending moment is occured within about 6 em toward the center line of bolt hole and it was possible to break that section.

The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the emissions of SOx and NH3 for a 78 kW class agricultural tractor during agricultural operations. A real-time monitoring system was constructed for measuring the load data. The field test was conducted during plow and rotary tillage. The working conditions were selected with the transmission gears in M3 Low and M2 High for the plow tillage and L3 High and L3 Low for the rotary tillage. The engine torque and fuel consumption were measured using controller area network (CAN) communication, and the emissions of SOx and NH3 were calculated based on the fuel consumption. As a result of the field tests, the engine torque was higher for the plow tillage than for the rotary tillage. As the gear stage was increased, the engine torque became higher. The emissions of SOx and NH3 were higher for the plow tillage than for the rotary tillage because the fuel consumption increased. Moreover, the emissions of SOx and NH3 tended to be more distributed for the rotary tillage than for the plow tillage. To develop an emission factor for agricultural machinery, it is important to measure reliable emission data during agricultural operations. In a future study, we will collect various emission data using a portable emission measurement system during agricultural operations.

This study was performed to develop a measurement system of tractor field performance for plow and rotary operations. Measurement system for tractor consisted of torque sensors to measure torque of drive axles and PTO axle, speed sensors to measure rotational speed of drive axles and engine, microcomputer to control data logger, and data logger as I/O interface system. The measurement system was installed on four-wheel-drive tractor. Four-element full-bridge type strain gages were used for torque measurement of drive axles and optical encoders were used to measure speeds of drive axles and engine. Slip rings were mounted on the rotational axles. Signals from sensors were inputted to data logger that was controlled by microcomputer with parallel communication. Sensors were calibrated before the field tests. Regression equations were found on completion of the calibrations. The field experiment was performed at paddy fields and uplands. Rotary and plow were used when the tractor was operated in the field. Travelling speeds of the tractor were 1.9 km/h, 2.7 km/h, 3.7 km/h, 5.5 km/h, 8.2 km/h, and 11.8 km/h. Operating depths of implements were maintained approximately 20cm during the tests. Torque data of drive axles were different at each location during plow and rotary operations. Results showed that torque of rear axles were greater than those of front axles. Total torque were 6860 - 11064 Nm at the upland and 7360 - 14190 Nm at the paddy field for plow operations. It was found that torque at the paddy field were about 20% greater than those at the upland for plow operations. Torque data showed that rotary operations required less power than plow operation at the paddy field and the upland. Torque measurements at each axle for rotary operations were only 8 - 16% of plow operations in the upland and 15 - 20% in the paddy field.
In Korea, rotary implements are mainly utilized in the tillage operation. The attitude control system for rolling phenominon of tractors, which in caused due to uneven ground surfaces and sinkage of tractor wheels, is one of the most important control systems in agricultural tractors. The attitude control system of a rotary implement, attached on tractors, was designed and fabricated in this study. The control system was largely composed of four main units; a setting unit, a detection unit, a controller and a hydraulic unit. The implement was controlled by control signals from a computer proportional to controlled errors, on/off action of two directional solenoide valve and lift cylinder on the right lift rod. Response characteristic experiments for the control system fabricated in this study were carried out indoors and outdoors. The results of experiments showed the response characteristics sufficient to use as the attitude control system of rotary implements for agricultural tractors.
The objectives of this study were to analyze the load acting on the transmission when tractor performed rotary operations in the poorly drained paddy fields and to compare its severeness with those obtained under different operational conditions. The loads were measured at the input shaft of the transmission and the load spectrum was constructed using the rain-flow cycle counting method. The severeness of the loads was represented by the partial damage sum which was determined by suing the modified Miner's rule. In the field with a shallow hardpan PTO speed affected severeness of the rotary operations greater than the forward speed did. In the field with deep hardpan, on the other hand, the effect of the forward speed was greater. the severeness in the well drained fields did not differ significantly from that in the field with a shallow hardpan. The severest load was recorded in the field with a deep hardpan.
For a single stage two cylinder rotary compressor, an analytical study has been made on the discharge gas pulsation. Discharge system of the twin rotary compressor consists of lower and upper mufflers and connecting passage holes between them, and cavities on both sides of the motor and passages between them. Acoustic modeling for the discharge system by transfer matrix method gives acoustic impedances at discharge valves so that gas pulsation at the valve sections can be obtained from discharge mass velocity. Since the mass velocity and the pressure pulsation at the valves are affected by each other, iteration should be made for convergence. Gas pulsations at other sections can also be calculated by using transfer matrix.
Using the soil bin systems, this study was carried out to analyze the effects of the angular and tilling speed of the rotary shaft with the edge curves which were $30^{\circ}$ and $40^{\circ}$, and the edged blade which were single and double, on the torque requirement of rotary tillage. In the analyses, we developed the mathematical models for the torque requirments of rotary tillage, and analyzed the optimum conditions of each variable for the minimum tillage torque requriements. The results of the study were summarized as follows. 1. The required tilling torque by one rotary blade has the minimum value when the tilling speed of the rotary blade was low, and the revolution of the rotary blade was fast, in general. 2. The torque requirements of single edged blade was decreased to about 81% in comparing with that of double edged blade of which the edge curved angle was $40^{\circ}$ and the tilling speed was 29.40 cm/sec. But, for the mean values, the maximum torque requirements were decreased to 45%, and the mean torque requirements were decreased to 35%. 3. For the edge curved angle, the torque requirements of ${\theta}=40^{\circ}$ were 48% more than that of ${\theta}=30^{\circ}$ in the maximum tilling torque in case that the rotary blade were double edged blade. but, there was not a difference when the rotary blades were single edged blade. The mean tilling torques of ${\theta}=40^{\circ}$ were 6% more when the rotary blade was double edged blade, and were 11% less at single edged blade, than that of ${\theta}=30^{\circ}$. 4. In order to reduce the torque requirements for tilling, the optimum revolutions of the rotary shaft were analyzed as that 204-240 rpm for the double edged blade and 280-320 rpm for the single edged blade.
Purpose: This study was conducted to compare tillage and loads characteristics of three types of rotavators in farmland working condition of Korea. Methods: Tillage operations using three types of rotavators, i.e. rotary-type, crank-type and plow-type, were carried out in a dry field of Korea. The same prime mover tractor was used for driving three types of rotavators, and under several operational conditions, tillage characteristics such as actual working speed, rotavating depth, rotavating width, actual field capacity, flow of tilled soil, soil inversion ratio, and pulverizing ratio were measured. In addition, loads characteristics like torque and required power of Power Take-Off (PTO) shaft were calculated. Results: The average rotavating depth was smaller than the nominal value for all rotavators, and the difference was the greatest in the plow-type rotavator. Nevertheless, the plow-type rotavator showed the largest rotavating depth. The rotavating width was the same as the nominal value of all rotavators. The flow of tilled soil at the same operational conditions was the greatest in the plow-type rotavator and was the smallest in the rotary-type rotavator. In the most commonly used gear conditions of L2 and L3, the average soil pulverizing ratio was the greatest in the rotary-type rotavator, and followed by crank-type and plow-type rotavators in order. In the gear L2 and L3, the plow-type rotavator also had the lowest average soil inversion ratio while the rotary-type and crank-type rotavators had the same soil inversion ratio each other. The average torque and power of PTO shaft in the gear L2 and L3 were the highest in the plow-type rotavator. The load spectra of PTO shaft applying rain flow counting method and Smith-Waston-Topper equation to the measured torque showed that the modified torque amplitude was the greatest in the crank-type rotavator. This may come from the large torque fluctuation of crank-type rotavator during tillage operations. Conclusions: The three types of rotavators had different tillage and loads characteristics. The plow-type rotavator had the deepest rotavating depth, the smallest soil inversion ratio, the largest soil pulverizing ratio and required PTO power. Also, the crank-type rotavator showed a large torque fluctuation because of their unique operational mechanism. This study will help the farmers choose a suitable type of rotavator for effective tillage operations.
