Bacterial strain showing the ropy characteristics was isolated from Korean wheat bread. Morphology of the isolate was rod and biochemical test revealed that the isolate was Bacillus subtilis. Growth of rope bacteria was about the same as other Bacillus species and inhibited below pH 5.6. Rope bacteria isolated from Korean wheat bread could not survive under the heat treatment of 10 min at $100^{\circ}C$, but could survive at $90^{\circ}C$.
A series of numerical MHD simulations are performed to investigate the evolution of coronal magnetic fields consisting of two flux ropes and an overlying field. Depending on the directions of the axial current and the axial field, two co-helicity cases and two counter-helicity cases are addressed. In Case 1, in which both the axial currents and the axial fields are parallel, flux rope merging bears a huge flux rope with a large winding number. This flux rope naturally erupts, but the whole evolutionary process is rather slow. In Case 2, in which the axial currents are parallel while the axial fields are antiparallel, a self-closed structure is formed and it drives eruption. In Case 3, in which the axial currents are antiparallel and the axial fields are parallel, each flux rope erupts independently and the presence of the other flux rope does not affect the eruption of one flux rope. In Case 4, in which both the axial currents and the axial fields are antiparallel, interaction of the flux ropes and the overlying field effects a breakout reconnection creating an apple-like CME configuration. Our study tells what kind of eruption mechanisms are involved for different eruption features observed.

The present study reports a simple unbonded-type shear strengthening technique for reinforced concrete beams using wire rope units. Fifteen beams failed in shear were repaired and strengthened with wire rope units, and then retested to failure. Influence of the prestressing force, orientation and spacing of wire rope units on the shear behavior of strengthened beams having shear span-to-depth ratios of 1.5, 2.5, or 3.25 were investigated. Test results showed that beams strengthened with wire rope units exhibited a higher shear strength and a larger post-failure deformation than the corresponding original beams. Inclined wire rope units was more effective for shear strength enhancement than vertical wire rope units. The increase of the prestressing force in wire rope units causes the decrease of the principal tensile stress in concrete, as a result, the diagonal tensile cracking strength of strengthened beams was higher than that of the corresponding original beams. Shear capacity of strengthened beams is compared with predictions obtained from ACI 318-05 and EC 2. Shear capacity of strengthened beams having shear span-to-depth ratio below 2.5 is reasonably predicted using ACI 318-05 formula. On the other hand, EC 2 overestimates the shear transfer capacity of wire rope units for beams having shear span-to-depth ratio above 2.5.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to introduce a new surgical technique and to evaluate the preliminary results after operative treatment with using TightRope$^{(R)}$ for treating acute acromioclavicular joint dislocation. Material and Methods: We studies 10 patients who were followed up for more than 6 months after operative treatment with using an TightRope$^{(R)}$. A longitudinal incision approximately 4cm in length was made from 1cm medial to the acromioclavicular joint to the coracoid process, and then coracocalvicular ligament augmentation using TightRope$^{(R)}$ was done after splitting the deltoid. For postoperative stability, two 1.6 mm Kirschner wires were inserted temporarily across the acromioclavicular joint in all cases. The radiologic results on the serial plain radiographs and the clinical results according to the UCLA score were analyzed. Results: Radiologically, 7 cases showed anatomical reduction, 2 cases showed a slightly loss of reduction and 1 case showed partial loss of reduction. Clinically, 6 cases were excellent, 3 cases were good and 1 case was fair. Conclusion: Coracoclavicular ligament augmentation using TightRope$^{(R)}$ for treating acute acromioclavicular joint dislocation is a minimally invasive, safe procedure that provides satisfactory radiologic and clinical preliminary results. Yet the long-term results have to be analyzed to determine the final results of this procedure.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the radiologic and clinical results of the arthroscopic coracoclavicular fixation of the acute acromioclavicular dislocation using $TightRope^{(R)}$ (Arthrex, Inc, Naples, FL). Materials and Methods: We performed the arthroscopic coracoclavicular fixation using $TightRope^{(R)}$ in twenty patients with the Rockwood type III or V acute acromioclavicular dislocation between February, 2009, and February, 2010. Mean follow-up was 13.4(range 8~22) months. Radiologic results were evaluated by comparing the distances between the clavicle and the coracoid process with those in the contralateral sides using the acromioclavicular stress radiographs. Clinical results were made according to the KSS(Korean Shoulder Scoring System), and the cosmetic satisfaction of the patient was assessed. Results: Radiologically, 18 cases showed excellent, 1 case showed good and 1 case showed fair results. Clinically, KSS was mean 98.5 (range 92~100) points and all cases revealed satisfactory cosmetic results. Because one case complained of skin tenderness and discomfort of palpation, we closed the knot with surrounding muscle & fascia. Then local wound infection occurred, so we treated it by incision and drainage under local anesthesia and antibiotic therapy for 2 weeks. Conclusion: Arthroscopic coracoclavicular fixation using $TightRope^{(R)}$ for treating the Rockwood type III or V acute acromioclavicular dislocation showed satisfactory radiologic and clinical results. It seems to be a good treatment method that has little postoperative complication, provides an early rehabilitation and an excellent cosmetic result, and does not require secondary operation for removal of metal implant.

Growing demand and rapid development of the synthetic fiber rope in mooring system have taken place since it has been used in deep water platform lately. Unlike a chain mooring, synthetic fiber rope composed of lightweight materials such as Polyester(polyethylene terephthalate), HMPE(high modulus polyethylene) and Aramid(aromatic polyamide). Non-linear stiffness and another failure mode are distinct characteristics of synthetic fiber rope when compared to mooring chain. When these ropes are exposed to environmental load for a long time, the length of rope will be increased permanently. This is called 'the creep phenomenon'. Due to the phenomenon, The initial characteristics of mooring systems would be changed because the length and stiffness of the rope have been changed as time goes on. The changed characteristics of fiber rope cause different mooring tension and vessel offset compared to the initial design condition. Commercial mooring analysis software that widely used in industries is unable to take into account this phenomenon automatically. Even though the American Petroleum Institute (API) or other classification rules present some standard or criteria with respect to length and stiffness of a mooring line, simulation guide considers the mechanical properties that is not mentioned in such rules. In this paper, the effect of creep phenomenon in the fiber rope mooring system under specific environment condition is investigated. Desiged mooring system for a Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit(MODU) with HMPE rope which has the highest creep is analyzed in a time domain in order to investigate the effects creep phenomenon to vessel offset and mooring tension. We have developed a new procedure to an analysis of mooring system reflecting the creep phenomenon and it is validated through a time domain simulation using non-linear mooring analysis software, OrcaFlex. The result shows that the creep phenomenon should be considered in analysis procedure because it affects the length and stiffness of synthetic fiber rope in case of high water temperature and permanent mooring system.

The scissor-type rope cutter is the most widely used amongst all kinds of commercially available rope cutters in Korea. In this study, we performed finite element analysis on the scissor-type rope cutter. We determined the structure of the cutter that would ensure its stable operation in various situations involving rope entanglement, and verified its effectiveness by testing it in the lab and in an actual ship. These investigations revealed that when the propeller shaft was not rotated by rope entanglement, the constant torque generated by the engine resulted in the torsion of the rope cutter and maximum deformation in the lower blade, which was not restricted by finite element analysis. With increasing blade thickness, the maximum values of deformation and equivalent stress decreased, resulting in a rise in the safety factor. At the constant blade thickness, the effect of the torque variations on the maximum equivalent stress and the maximum deformation is independent of the position of the external force of the rope cutter and decreases in direct proportion. The results of this study confirmed that the rope-cutter structure determined by analysis could lead to a hassle-free removal of ropes and fishing nets under all conditions and environments.

This study shows the results of safety analysis obtained from the three different wire rope connections in the RPSD (Rope Platform Screen Door) system, which are the rope connected at both ends, the ropes connected by a pulley at both ends, and the ropes connected by many pulleys at both ends. With a constant load applied, the displacements in the ropes connected by a pulley at both ends and the ropes connected by many pulleys at both ends are smaller than that in the rope connected at both ends. There are no any special different displacements between the ropes connected by a pulley at both ends and the ropes connected by many pulleys at both ends. The displacement in the wire rope diameter of 6mm is smallest of 4.83mm and the strains from the displacements in the ropes connected by a pulley at both ends and the ropes connected by many pulleys at both ends are very small.

The North Pacific midwater trawling which is one of the important fishing methods for Korean fishing industry is working in the Bering Sea and the sea near Kamchaka Peninsula. The catch by Korean midwater trawlers had been recorded about 300 thousands $^{M/_T}$ a year. Six types of midwater trawl net-ordinary midwater trawl net, super-V trawl net, super mesh trawl net, rope trawl net, super plus trawl net and kite trawl net-have been widely used by large trawlers above 1,500gt in size since 1982. Regarding the fishing efficiency, the super plus trawl net and kite trawl net were acknowledged as higher than other nets. Maximum mesh size of super-plus trawl net and kite trawl net ranges about 20m, whereas the length of net about 150m, and high-tech polyethylene is used as the material of rope part. The problems involved in the North Pacific midwater trawl net may be summarized as follows ; (1) The dimension of fishing gear is too big compared with the towing power of trawler. (2) The mesh size of the rope part is too big compared with that of the common netting part. (3) The net is often torn out in the connecting position of the rope part and the netting part. (4) The net is not matched with the trawler and the otter board in many trawlers, so the shape of the trawl gear in the water is instable. (5) The fish school located near head rope, ground rope and side rope in the net recorder is not caught in practice because of the net instability.

Wire ropes are used in a myriad of various industrial applications such as elevator, mine hoist, construction machinery, lift, and suspension bridge. Especially, wire rope of crane is important component to container transfer. If it happens wire rope failures in operating, it may lead to safety accident, economic power loss by productivity decline, competitive power decline of container terminal and so on. To solve this problem, we developed wire rope fault detecting system as a portable instrument, and this system is consisted of 3 parts that fault detecting part using hall sensor, permanent magnets and analog unit, and digital signal processing part using data acquisition card, monitoring part using wavelet transform, denoising method. In this paper, a wire rope is scanned by this system after makes several broken parts on the surface of wire rope artificially. All detected signal has external noise or disturbance according to circumstances. So, we applied to discrete wavelet transform to extract a signal from noisy data that was used filter. In practical applications of denoising, it is shown that wavelet pursue it with little information loss and smooth signal display. It is verified that the detecting system by denoising has good efficiency for inspecting faults of wire ropes in service. As a result, by developing this system, container terminal could reduce expense because of extension of wire ropes exchange period and could competitive power. Also, this system is possible to apply in several fields like that elevator, lift and so on.
