To provide the basic information of buckwheat insoluble dietary fiber (IDF) and efficient material for the buckwheat processed foodstuffs, buckwheat (Fagopyrum egculentum Moench) was germinated at 1$0^{\circ}C$ for 7 days and the contents and composition of the insoluble dietary fiber were examined at 24 hour intervals. The NDF and ADF contents in ungerminated seeds were 20.27%, 18.95% on dry weight basis, respectively. During the germination period, the NDF and ADF contents increased gradually. The cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin contents in ungerminated seeds were 11.10%, 1.32% and 7.85%, respectively. During the germination period, the cellulose and lignin contents increased. However, there was no significant change in the hemicellulose contents. The composition of cellulose and hemicellulose in the NDF decreased with germination time, whereas that of lignin increased. The IDF contents obtained by Prosky method were higher than the NDF contents obtained by Van Soest method. However, the IDF and NDF contents were closely correlated(r=0.9785, p<0.01). The cellulose(Xl), hemicellulose(X2), lignin(X3) and soluble dietary fiber (SDF) (BL) showed the significant regression equation(p<0.001) with the root length(Y). The multiple regression equation was Y = -12.1306 + 0.9213xl - 0.1615$\times$2 + 0.1071$\times$3 + 0.7397$\times$4 and R2(coefficient of determination) was 0.942.

Prunus × yedoensis is a representative tree species in residential areas often used as a street tree or park tree, with its popularity due to splendid flowers in the spring. We investigated plant growth, photosynthesis, chlorophyll, and carotenoid concentrations of Prunus yedoensis at 400ml/pot, 1,000ml/pot, and 2,000ml/pot Irrigation treatments. Overall growth indices such as tree height, diameter at root collar (DRC), and total dry weight could be ranked in the decreasing order "2,000ml/pot > 1,000ml/pot > 400ml/pot.". However, 2,000ml/pot featured decreased photosynthesis and total chlorophyll carotenoid contents than 1,000ml/pot treatment after July. And also, The 1,000ml/pot treatment showed relatively high photosynthetic activity and chlorophyll contents. These results suggested that the cultivation of Prunus yedoensis under 1,000ml/pot Irrigation treatment(soil water contents 25~35%) showed the best condition in growth.
Severe acid rains can be a major source for geotechnical and environmental problems in any soil depending on the acid type and concentration. Hence, this study investigates the individual severe effects of sulfuric, hydrochloric and nitric acids on the geotechnical properties of real field soil through a series of experimental laboratory tests. The laboratory program consists of experimental tests such as consistency, compaction, unconfined compression, pH determination, electrical conductivity, total dissolved salts, total suspended solids, gypsum and carbonates contents. The experimental tests have been performed on the untreated soil and individual acid treated soil for acid concentrations range of 0% to 20% by weight. In addition, a unique hyperbolic mathematical model has been used to predict significant geotechnical characteristics for acid treated soil. The plastic and liquid limits and optimum moisture content have been increased under the effect of all the used acids whereas the maximum dry density and unconfined stress-strain behavior have been decreased with increasing the acid concentrations. Moreover, the used hyperbolic mathematical model has predicted all the geotechnical characteristics very well with a very high coefficient of determination (R2) value and lowest root mean square error (RMSE) estimate.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of artificial light sources on the germination and seedling vigor of lettuce, aiming to identify the optimal artificial light source for producing high-quality seedlings. Lettuce cultivar of 'Tomalin' and 'Seonpunggold' exhibited the highest seed emergence in the Metal halide(MH) lamp and High-pressure sodium(HPS) lamp treatment group, while the emergence rate parameter, T50, was the fastest in the HPS lamp treatment group. Both cultivars showed good growth characteristics such as number of leaves, root length, and stem diameter under RGB-LED, and their seedling vigor was excellent as well. The plant height was smallest in the Red + Green + Blue LED treatment, but the leaves were round and thick, resulting in higher biomass and dry weight. Single light sources of Red LED and Blue LED led to reduced growth compared with that under the mixed light treatments. Chlorophyll content in lettuce varied with the type of artificial light, with both cultivars exhibiting the highest chlorophyll content in the Red + Green + Blue LED treatment. The most suitable artificial light for lettuce seedling growth was the Red + Green + Blue LED treatment.

Investigation of the optimum levels of pre-plant nitrogen for raising of hot pepper (cv. Nokkwang) plug seedlings was the objective of this research. To achieve this, the pre-plant nitrogen levels were varied to 0, 100, 250, 500, 750, 1,000, and $1,500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ and the other essential nutrients were controlled to equal concentrations in all treatments. All the fertilizers were added during the formulation of the mixed medium of coir dust, peatmoss, and perlite with the ratio of 35, 35, and 30% (v/v/v). The root medium containing pre-plant fertilizer was packed into 50-cell plug trays and seeds were sown. The measurement of pH and EC in every week, soil solution analysis for nutrients in week 0, 3, and 7 and growth measurements as well as tissue analysis for nutrient contents in week 7 were conducted. The pHs measured before seed sowing did not show significant differences, but the differences among treatments became significant as seedlings grow bigger. The soil solution ECs were significantly different among treatments in week 0 and these differences were diminished by degrees after week 3, resulting in no significant differences among treatments in week 7. The trends in changes of $NH_4-N$, $NO_3-N$, and other the macro-element concentrations in soil solution of root media were similar to those of ECs. The treatments of 500 and $750mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ N were more effective than other treatments on seedling growth. The seedling growths in the treatments containing higher N than $1,000mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ and control were severely suppressed. The elevated pre-plant N concentrations in the root medium resulted in the increase of tissue N contents. The treatments of 500 and $750mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ N shown the highest seedling growths had 5.13% and 5.31%, respectively, in tissue N contents based on the dry weight of above ground tissue at week 7. The results of this study indicated that the optimum level of pre-plant N is 500 to $750mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ for the raising of hot pepper plug seedlings.

This study was conducted to determine the effects of a pre-planting fertilizers with various $NH_4{^+}:NO_3{^-}$ ratios in a coir dust:peatmoss:perlite (3.5:3.5:3.0, v/v/v) medium on the growth of hot pepper (Capsicum annuum L. cv. Nokkwang) plug seedling. Nitrogen levels were fixed to $300mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ and the $NH_4{^+}:NO_3{^-}$ ratios were varied to 0:100, 27:73, 50:50, 73:27, and 100:0. The 50-cell trays were filled with treatment media containing pre-plant fertilizers, then seeds were sown. After seeds were germinated, the trays were moved to greenhouse and seedlings were feed with 13-2-13 and 20-9-20 fertilizers, alternatively. The changes in pH and EC were measured every week and soil solution for nutrient concentrations were analyzed in week 0, 3, and 7. The measurements of seedling growths as well as analysis of tissue nutrient contents were also conducted in week 7. The varied $NH_4{^+}:NO_3{^-}$ ratios did not influence on the pHs of root media after incorporation of pre-planting fertilizers, but the ECs were heightened as proportion of $NH_4{^+}$ to $NO_3{^-}$ were elevated. During the raising of seedlings, the pHs rose over time in the treatments of 0:100 and 27:73 ($NH_4{^+}:NO_3{^-}$). The concentrations of all macro-elements in root media decreased gradually as seedlings grew in all treatments. The seedling growths 7 weeks after seed sowing were the highest in the treatments of 27:73 and 50:50 ($NH_4{^+}:NO_3{^-}$) and those became worse in the treatments of higher $NH_4{^+}$ ratios than 73%. In terms of inorganic element contents based on the dry weight of above ground tissue, the treatment of 0:100 showed the lowest content of Ca, Mg, Na, Cu, Mn, and Zn. Based on the results, it is desired that $NH_4{^+}$ ratio in pre-planting fertilization is maintained to be 50% or less for the raising of hot pepper plug seedlings.
Summer stress is one of the serious problems on cool-season grass at the soccer fields in Korea during heavy rainy season. This study was conducted to intestigate the effect of shade net with regard to its percent (0, 50, 75), color (black, green), height (0 cm, 30 cm) and time (7 hr, 24 hr) on turf canopy temperature, light intensity, leaf color, turf performance, clipping yield and root dry weight of cool-season turfgrass. Turf canopy temperature was 6~13$^{\circ}C$ under black and green shade net when temperature was over 4$0^{\circ}C$. Light intensity was also decreased from 40 to 94% under black and green shade net compared to control. Black shade net was more effective than green net in reduction of temperature and light intensity. Green shade net was found to be better for photosynthesis of cool-season grass. Leaf color, turf performance, clipping yield, and root dry weight were better and increased under 50% and 75% shade net. 50% black shade net with 30cm height and 7 hr treatment showed the best turf performance. It can be concluded that 50% and 75% green shade net can be used fur reducing summer stress on cool-season grass after soccer marches during heavy rain season. The shade net decreased the turf canopy temperature and reduced heating damage of cool-season turfgrass.
Seed germination test done in laboratory does not coincide with field emergence in general. The experiments were carried out to examine the effect of priming and $GA_3$, treatment to seeds of Platycodon grandiflorum; Codonopsis lanceolata and C. pilosula on lapsed time to first seedling emergence, seedling emergence, morphological characters and growth and the cause of poor emergence of C. pilosula. No-treatment as Control (water), priming or $GA_3$ treatment was done with only distilled water for 2 days, $CA(NO_3)_2$ 150 mM for 2 days or $GA_3$ 0.1 mM for 3 days, respectively. Seedling emergence rate was counted every 2 days but morphological characters and dry weight of shoot and root were measured on 38 days after sowing. Their internal seed structures were examined with Scanning Electron Microscope. C. pilosula had poorer seedling emergence rate than P grandiflorum and C. lanceolata showing nearly same rate: Compared to the other treatment (s) P. grandiflorum displayed higher rate in priming and $GA_3$, treatments but C. lanceolata or C. pilosula did the greatest rate in only $GA_3$ or priming treatment, respectively. $GA_3$ treatment to seeds of P. grandiflorum and C. lanceolata shortened the lapsed time to seedling emergence in comparison with Control, 2-days water imbibition before sowing. In all the species plant height and number of leaves per seedling became shorter and less in priming treatment than the other treatments except plant height of C. Pilosula while their hypocotyl length was nearly same in all treatments. Although priming treatment had nearly similar effect to morphological characters, $GA_3$ treatment forced greater shoot, root and aftermath total dry weight per seedling. Poor seedling emergence of C. pilosula was caused by its seed defect like cleavage or lack of embryo, poor development of embryo and endosperm or their separation.
To investigate the effect of inorganic ($GeO_2$) and organic (Ge-132) germanium treatment on Brasica juncea C. plant, growth characteristics and Ge contents were examined with various inorganic or organic germanium treatments (0, 5, 10, 25, 50, 75 and $100mg\;L^{-1}$), respectively. Brasica juncea C. growth did not much inhibited until Ge $10mg\;L^{-1}$ concentration under both Ge-132 and $GeO_2$ treatments as compared to control. On the other hand, at Ge concentration higher than $25mg\;L^{-1}$ concentration, Brasica juncea C. growth was inhibited under both Ge-132 and $GeO_2$ treatments. Under treatment of $GeO_2$, length of root and shoot slightly increased until $5mg\;L^{-1}$ concentration and dry weight slightly increased until $10mg\;L^{-1}$ concentration. Under treatment of Ge-132, length of root and shoot slightly increased until $10mg\;L^{-1}$ concentration and dry weight slightly increased until $25mg\;L^{-1}$ concentration. Total Ge contents in Brasica juncea C. early seedlings with $GeO_2$ treatment were a bit higher than those with Ge-132 treatment. Germanium was primarily accumulated in the roots (77%) with organic Ge (Ge-132) treatments, whereas Ge was primarily accumulated in the leaf (70%, respectively) with $GeO_2$ treatments. The Ge uptake rates in inorganic Ge treatments were slightly high than those in organic Ge treatments. Under inorganic Ge treatment with $2.5mg\;L^{-1}$, about 3% of Ge was accumulated into plant and distribution in leaf and root was 84.8% and 15.2%, respectively. Under organic Ge treatment with $2.5mg\;L^{-1}$, about 2.6% of Ge was accumulated into plant and distribution in leaf and root was 66.4% and 33.6%, respectively.
The objective of this research was to know useful genetic characteristics for breeding program of corn. These materials were inbreds after selfing of six or eight generations and had useful genetic informations. The emergence of Danyang Waxy Corn was faster than those of other inbred lines at 2~3 days in field conditions. The plant height of Dangyang Waxy Corn was the highest at 8 days after emergence. However the plant height of New Dangjin was the shortest with 6.25cm at 8 days after emergence, the fresh weight of New Dangjin was 0.046g at 2 days after emergence but that of Dangyang was the heaviest with 0.180g. The fresh weight of 9 inbred lines had more increments in 2 days after emergence. The mean values of dry weight also showed similar trends in 9 inbred lines. The shoot dry weight of inbred lines, Dangyang and New Dangjin was 0.045g and 0.018g at 8 days after emergence, respectively. The root length of inbred line, Dangyang, was the longest with 64.4cm at 8 days after emergence. But the root length of New Dangjin was the shortest with 20.4cm at 8 days after emergence. The fresh weight of endosperm was 0.35g at 2 days after emergence and 0.26g at 8 days after emergence in Dangyang Waxy Corn, because of reduced nutrition of endosperm.
