Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate periodontal and pulpal healing in replanted rat teeth, preserved under different storage conditions, with or without root conditioning using doxycycline. Methods: A total of 40 maxillary first molars extracted from 20 Sprague-Dawley rats were stored for different durations under different conditions (5 minutes in dry storage and 60 minutes in Hank's balanced salt solution [HBSS]) and subsequently replanted. The rats were divided into 2 groups based on the use of root surface treatment: the doxycycline group (root surface treated with doxycycline) and the control group (no doxycycline treatment). Eight weeks after replantation, the animals were sacrificed, and the teeth were evaluated using micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) and histomorphometric analysis. Results: In the micro-CT analysis, the doxycycline group showed the same rate of occurrence of periapical radiolucency as was observed in the control group, but a lower degree of root resorption in teeth replanted after 60 minutes of storage in HBSS (P<0.05). In the histomorphometric analysis, the doxycycline group exhibited no improvement in either pulpal or periodontal healing of the replanted tooth after 5 minutes of dry storage, but showed a lower grade of surface root resorption ($1.37{\pm}0.77$) and inflammatory resorption in the teeth stored for 60 minutes in HBSS ($1.33{\pm}0.71$). Conclusions: In conclusion, doxycycline improved the periodontal healing of replanted teeth stored for 60 minutes in HBSS, whereas doxycycline did not improve periodontal healing of replanted tooth after 5 minutes of dry storage. Within the limits of this study, doxycycline showed more favorable periodontal healing despite delayed replantation.

This paper deals with approximate integral solutions to the one-dimensional model describing the charging process of stratified thermal storage tanks. Temperature is assumed to be the form of Fermi-Dirac distribution function, which can be separated to two sets of cubic polynomials for each hot and cold side of thermal boundary layers. Proposed approximate integral solutions are compared to the previous works of the approximate analytic solutions and show reasonable agreement. The approach, however, has benefits in mathematical difficulties, complicated solution form and unstable convergence of series solution founded in the previous analytic solutions. Solutions for a semi-infinite region, which have simple closed form solutions, give close agreement to those for a finite region. Thermocline thickness is obtained in closed form and shows proportional behavior to the square root of time and inverse proportional behavior to the square root of flow rate.

Friction factors and equivalent sand roughness of PVC pipe fittings have been studied by experiments in the Reynolds number range of $2,000\~70,000$. PVC pipe fittings studied are straight pipes, $90^{\circ}$ elbows and tees with 15, 25, and 40mm in norminal diameter, all manufactured in Korea with KS mark approval. Equivalent relative roughness of PVC pipes obtained lies between smooth pipe and 0.002. The study shows that equivalent sand roughness of PVC pipes increasses in proportion of the square root of pipe diameter , and can be approximately abtained by multiplying 4 to the root mean square value measured by metal surface roughness tester. Loss coefficient of PVC $90^{\circ}$ elbows decreases slowly with increasing Reynolds number. Loss coeffiicent of tees is a function of ratio of flow rates and Reynolds number.
Purpose: This in vitro study was conducted to evaluate the effects of different debridement techniques and conditioning procedures on root surface morphology and blood clot stabilization. Methods: Two debridement techniques (curette [CU] vs. high-speed ultrasound [US]) and 2 conditioning procedures (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid [EDTA] and phosphoric acid [PA]) were used for the study. Seven experimental groups were tested on root surfaces: 1) no treatment (C); 2) CU; 3) US; 4) CU+EDTA; 5) US+EDTA; 6) CU+PA; and 7) US+PA. Three specimens per group were observed under scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for surface characterization. Additional root slices received a blood drop, and clot formation was graded according to the blood element adhesion index by a single operator. Data were statistically analyzed, using a threshold of P<0.05 for statistical significance. Results: The C group displayed the most irregular surface among the tested groups with the complete absence of blood traces. The highest frequency of blood component adhesion was shown in the CU+EDTA group (P<0.05), while no differences were detected between the CU, US+EDTA, and CU+PA groups (P<0.05), which performed better than the US and US+PA groups (P<0.05). Conclusions: In this SEM analysis, EDTA and conventional manual scaling were the most efficient procedures for enhancing smear layer removal, collagen fiber exposure, and clot stabilization on the root surface. This technique is imperative in periodontal healing and regenerative procedures.
The purpose of this was to evaluate the in vitro effects of different application modes of tetracycline HCI on dentin root surfaces. The study group was comprised of 30 teeth with advanced periodontal disease extracted before the start of periodontal therapy. The diseased root surface was vigorously root planed to expose dentin. The teeth were sectioned and cotton pellets. soaked in a saturated solution of tetracycline HCI, were either "placed" or "burnished" on the prepared root surface for 3, 5 min. respectively. Control surfaces were similarly treated with root planing only. Following the various treatments, teeth were fixed. dehydrated, critical point dried, and coated for scanning electron microscopic(SEM) evaluation. The surfaces of tetracycline HCI treated specimens considerably differed from specimens treated with root planing only. Results demonstrated that root-planed, no-tetracycline HCI specimens had amorphous, irregular surface which corresponded to a smear layer. Tetracycline HCI specimens exhibited collagen fibers and dentinal tubules exposed by the removal of the smear layer. Although some differences were seen in surface structures among some specimens. "burnished" application causes more extensive change than "placed" application, and application time of the tetracycline HCl did not seem to have any major impact on the surface morphology.
The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of 5% tetracycline(Tc) gel on healing of gingival tissue and change of diseased root surface when used with nonsurgical procedure. 7 patients with advanced periodontitis were received thorough scaling and root planning, followed by saline irrigation on 10 randomly selected control teeth and Tc gel application for 5 minutes with specifically designed plastic instrument of 10 test teeth in contralateral side. At 0, 1, 7, 14, and 21 days after treatment, biopsy and extraction were carried out. At day 7, Tc group showed decreased inflammation and delayed proliferation of pocket epithelium in comparison with control group which was continued for all experimental days. Scanning electron microscopic finding revealed demineralized and cleaned root surface with exposed dentinal tubules in Tc gel group. In the present study, clinically successful result is expected with combined use of nonsurgical periodontal therapy and intrapocket application of Tc gel.
Root caries is very frequently developed on exposed root surface after periodontal surgical treatment. In order to determine the anti-caries effect of Nd : YAG laser irradiation on periodontally exposed root surface, 40 mandibular molar teeth that had been extracted due to excessive periodontal destruction were used as the experimental teeth. All teeth were treated by the same procedure as conventional periodontal root treatment, ie thorough scaling, root planing and root conditioning with tetracycline HCl(100mg/ml, 5min.). Within middle one third of root, mesial half surface(20) or distal half surface(20) was randomly irradiated at various power of 1.0W, 2.0W, 3.0W and 4.0W for 60 seconds by non-contact(5mm) delivery of a pulsed Nd : YAG laser(EN.EL.EN060, Italy). The microhardness was measured by Vikers microhardness tester(Wilson, USA) at 2mm/second of jog speed under 100gm load. The difference of microhardness between irradiated side and non-irradiated side was statistically analyzed ANOVA and Duncan's method. Following results were obtained ; 1. The microhardness(Knoop hardness number) was significantly higher in laser irradiated surface than non-irradiated surface(p<0.05). 2. There was no significant difference in microhardness between experimental groups classified by different laser power(p>0.1). The results suggest that Nd : YAG laser irradiation on exposed root suface after periodontal therapy may inhibit the root caries development by enhancing surface microhardness.
Histological studies indicate a tetracycline HCl similar to citric acid to induce connetive tissue repair in animals. When tetracycline HCl was used as a root conditioning agent in humans, there was a trend toward more connective tissue attachment than in root planing alone. The purpose of this study was to evaluate clinical effect of tetracycline HCl in the treatment of gingival recession. 44 teeth in 12 patients with bilaterally gingival recession & Miller classification I, II gingival recession were selected and 22 teeth were treated with 125mg/ml tetracycline HCl , the others was not treated with tetracycline HCl. Gingival recession, pocket depth, clinical attachment level, width of keratinized gingiva were observed at baseline, postoperative 4, 12, 20weeks. Both groups were statistically analyzed by Wilcoxon signed Ranks Test & Wilcoxon's rank sum test(Mann-whitney test) using SPSS program.(5% significance level) The results were as follows: 1........The change of gingival recession, clinical attachment level, keratinized gingiva in both groups were increased significantly at 4, 12, 20 weeks. 2.......The pocket depth exhibited no marked changes throughout the entire investigation in both groups. 3........The change of gingival recession in tetracycline group was increased significantly than control group at 4, 12, 20 weeks and the percentage of root coverage was 93% in tetracycline group and 83% in control group. 4........The change of clinical attachment level, pocket depth, keratinized tissue from baseline to 4, 12, 20 weeks was not differ significanltly in both group.

A few commonly used correlation equations of the enthalpy of vaporization essential to the analysis of refrigeration cycles are reviewed. A new four-parameter correlation equation is proposed assuming that the enthalpy of vaporization could be represented with a linear form of the temperature and an additional function which slowly decreases as the temperature increases. It is not a common practice to measure the enthalpy of vaporization by experiment; therefore, performance of the new correlation is examined using numeric data from the ASHRAE tables for 22 pure substance refrigerants. The new correlation equation and other existing ones are fitted to the data optimizing the root mean squared deviation. All data points are weighted equally and NBP (normal boiling point) is used as a fixed point since the NBP is important for refrigeration application. The new four-parameter equation yields an average absolute deviation of 0.05% for 22 refrigerants which is smaller than those of other four-parameter equations, such as Guermouche-Vergnaud (0.08%), Aerebrot (0.13%), Radoz-Lyderson (0.08%), and Somayajulu four-parameter equation (0.08%).
