  • Between May 1991 and August 1993, 16 patients underwent repair of complete atrioventricular septal defect without another major anomaly at Cardiovascular Center,Yonsei University College of Medicine. Ages of the patients ranged from 3 months to 38 years with a mean of 42 months. Among 16, 10 patients[63%] are associated with Down`s syndrome. All patients underwent primary repair except and one who received had been repaire of coactation of aorta and patent ductus arteriosus 2 month before. Preoperative mitral valve regurgitation [MR] was evaluated with Doppler echocardiography and angiography which revealed absent or grade I in 1, grade II in 8, grade III in 4, and grade IV in 3. Operative technique was performed under the moderate hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass with crystalloid cardioplegia. Intraoperative echocardiography was performed epicardial approach [n=7] in the operative table or transthoracic approach [n=9] at intensive care unit. In all patients except 3, MR were improved. But in 3 patients, was not improved or exagerated comparing preoperative one. All of them were died. One patient was showed MR grade IV in intraoperative echocardiography, we re-repaired atriventricular valve with cardiopulmonary bypass. During follow-up period [at a mean of 11 months after repair], doppler echocardiography was performed in all patients. The follow up echocardiography revealed that the degree of MR in immediate postoperative period was not changed except in two patients in whom it was aggravated. Thus it seems that intraoperative and early postoperative echocardiography was employed important role of survival and can be predictable for long term results.

  • 'Sentence posing' is newly given in the third through sixth grade mathematics textbooks of the revised 2007 curriculum to confirm students' understanding on mathematical concepts of definitions. In this paper, we discuss the role of the sentence posing in the third grade mathematics textbooks on the basis of the problems occurred in third graders' sentence posing activities. Overall, it turned out that the role of the sentence posing was somewhat restrictive. Hence the sentence posing needs to be applied to check whether students can properly use the definitions in real life situations. In addition, it is necessary to employ the present role of the sentence posing to confirm students' understanding on mathematical concepts of definitions selectively according to the concepts of definitions.

  • This study looked at worked on remaining landscapes in terms of landscape ecology. It presented some ways to conserve and to activate remaining landscapes with examples of agricultural lands in Hwa-won Gun, Ok-po Myun. The results are as follows: We investigated 20 remaining landscape types and 90 remaining landscapes, and classified them in terms of forest and water zones. To evaluate the investigated remaining landscapes, we produced a grading system using 8 criteria such as vitality, stability, field suitability, type of inner scenery formation, connection, recreation, and culture/tradition. Our evaluation of the vitality found that Grade I had the mast remaining landscapes; Grade II had 28, Grade III had 16, Grade V had four, and Grade IV had none. We evaluated the outer landscape influence using 3 criteria such as divisibility, vitality, and indication. We found from evaluating the type of inner scenery formation that most of the landscapes superior to Grade III were adjacent to water zones and that linear landscapes evaluated as Grade I, and II played an important role in this connection. We evaluated the recreation probability using marks, frequencies, and emergencies of peculiar types. Based on the results, we proposed some ways to conserve and to activate the remaining landscapes classified by grades using the results of the last evaluation. Additionally, we proposed some ways to activate the restoration of the linear axis of the green space function the formation of a buffer green space around matric space, the improvement of the axis of the green space center, and the formation of additional green tracts of land to play the role of stepping stones. We proposed the possibility of improving uniformed farm land structures. This study did not consider the weighting values of the evaluation index. Therefore a more objective study will be needed with an expert-survey in the future.
