The ticks feed large amount of blood from their hosts and transmit pathogens to the victims. The salivary gland plays an important role in the blood feeding. When the female ticks are near engorgement, the salivary gland gradually loses its functions and begins to rapidly degenerate. In this study, data-independent acquisition quantitative proteomics was used to study changes in the phosphorylation modification of proteins during salivary gland degeneration in Haemaphysalis longicornis. In this quantitative study, 400 phosphorylated proteins and 850 phosphorylation modification sites were identified. Trough RNA interference experiments, we found that among the proteins with changes in phosphorylation, apoptosis-promoting Hippo protein played a role in salivary gland degeneration.

The iron uptake and utilization pathways play a critical role in allowing human pathogens, including Cryptococcus neoformans, the causative agent of fatal meningoencephalitis, to survive within the mammalian body by competing with the host for iron. Here we show that the iron regulon is also required for diverse environmental stress responses and that in C. neoformans, it is regulated by the high-osmolarity glycerol response (HOG) pathway. Between CFO1 and CFO2, two ferroxidase genes in the iron regulon, CFO1 but not CFO2 was induced during oxidative and osmotic stress. Interestingly, we found that the HOG pathway repressed basal expression of both CFO1 and CFO2. Furthermore, when the HOG pathway was blocked, CFO2 also responded to oxidative and osmotic stress and the response of CFO1 was increased. We also established that CFO1 plays a major role in responding and adapting to diverse environmental stresses, including oxidative and genotoxic damage, osmotic fluctuations, heavy metal stress, and stress induced by cell membrane destabilizers. Therefore, our findings indicate that in C. neoformans, the iron uptake and utilization pathways are not only required for iron acquisition and survival, but also play a significant role in the environmental stress response through crosstalk with the HOG pathway.

Heat shock proteins (Hsps) play a key role in the cellular defense response to diverse environmental stresses. Here, the role of Hsp genes in the acquisition of thermotolerance in the cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa NIES-298 was investigated. Twelve Hsp-related genes were examined to observe their modulated expression patterns at different temperatures (10, 15, 25, and $35^{\circ}C$) over different exposure periods. HspA and HtpG transcripts showed an up-regulation of expression at low temperatures (10 and $15^{\circ}C$) and high temperature ($35^{\circ}C$), compared with the control ($25^{\circ}C$). To examine their effects upon thermotolerance, we purified recombinant HspA and HtpG proteins. During a thermotolerance study at $54^{\circ}C$, the HspA-transformed bacteria showed increased thermotolerance compared with the control. HtpG also played a role in the defense response to acute heat stress within 30 min. These findings provide a better understanding of cellular protection mechanisms against heat stress in cyanobacteria.

The role of consumer self-confidence is important in consumer's purchase decision. Nevertheless, the use of self-esteem measures might cause misinformation in the specific situation of the marketing-related point of view. In this study, consumer self-confidence was measured by marketing oriented tools to clarify the dimensions of consumer self-confidence while the influence of consumer self-confidence on clothing satisfaction was also investigated. A total of 325 questionnaires were collected by surveying university students in Seoul and the surrounding metropolitan area using convenient sampling. The data were analysed by factor analysis, ANOVA, t-test, and regression by using SPSSWIN program. The findings of the study were as fellows. First, the consumer self-confidence was composed of 6 sub-scales: information acquisition, personal outcomes decision making, social outcomes decision making, consideration-set formation, persuasion knowledge, and marketplace interfaces. Second, female subjects rated higher on consumer self-confidence than male subjects did in social outcomes decision making and consideration-set formation. Third, higher income was correlated with higher social outcomes decision making and consideration-set formation. Finally, clothing satisfaction was influenced by personal outcomes decision making and information acquisition.

This paper is in line with the attempts to examine two assumptions implied about the role of Universal Grammar (UC) in nonnative language acquisition: Are the EFL learners at disadvantage in acquiring UC-driven knowledge? Are there critical period effects in EFL learning? Based on the research with the seven studies of ESL and EFL adult learners performance on the Subjacency violation sentences, the paper investigates the extent to which the EFL adult learners can attain UG-driven knowledge represented by the Subjacency Principle. It also makes comparison of the EFL learners level of access to UG with that of their counterparts, the ESL learners. The research findings suggests that the EFL environment doesn't prevent the learners from acquiring target grammar in UG domain. That is, the current paper strongly suggests that the EFL adult-learners be able to acquire UG-driven knowledge to a considerable extent, at least as high as the ESL adult learners can attain. For the interpretation of the research results of the seven studies, Constructionist Hypothesis (CH) supported by a Minimalist Program (MP) assumption is employed. CH seems more plausible to account not only for incomplete acquisition observed among the beginning and intermediate level learners but also for the native-like competence acquired by advanced level L2 learners.

Recently, the manufacturers of life-jacket are very interested in the acquisition of USCG(US Coast Guard) approval because the acquisition of USCG approval has an important role in the purchasing decision of the buyer's. Be based on criterion of USCG, we studied how to predict the change of floating position of human model with life-jacket to verify the backside restore. For this, in this study, the human model and the lifejacket was modeled in three dimension, the application program for prediction of floating position was developed, and plugged-in commercial program.

Informal networks between individuals are widely seen as important in East Asian business systems. However, while the performance implications of guanxi in China have been extensively studied, much less is known on how informal networks may influence business outcomes in other East Asian countries. We examine informal networks in inter-organizational research collaborations in South Korea by studying the role of pre-existing social ties and relational orientation in new product development (NPD) collaborations and university-industry research (UIR) collaborations. We conduct an interview-based, in-depth case analysis of five NPD collaborations and five UIR collaborations. Pre-existing social ties and relational orientation are prevalent in both types of research collaborations. However, they have different consequences for collaboration outcomes. Pre-existing social ties strongly vary in their types and strength, and negatively affect collaboration outcomes unless they result in the selection of competent and motivated partners. Relational orientation manifests itself in a task-related and social exchange between collaboration partners, which contributes to outcomes such as knowledge acquisition and business performance. Korean collaboration managers should rely only on pre-existing social ties that are well-aligned with task-related requirements when initiating and conducting research collaborations. However, the creation of strong relationships between collaboration team members of partnering organizations should be encouraged.

The high prices and lack of information for satellite images prevent researchers from studying remote sensing and most non-professional people can't have the simple and easy solutions for the manipulation of satellite images. 'Satellite Imagery Information Management Center'(SIMC) project which is promoted by ETRI (Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute) from 2002 to 2005 in Korea have the purpose to provide the satellite images freely to the public domain and the solutions for the above mentioned problems. Our project have the following five systems; Data Acquisition System, Data Preservation System, Integrated Solution System, Technology Development System, Operation Plan System. Data Acquisition System collects the satellite images such as LANDSAT, IKONOS, etc. Data Preservation System consists of database which registers the diverse satellite images. Integrated Solution System gives the user of public domain for the web service which search, order and transfer the satellite images. Technology Development System has the many processing technologies for the satellite images. Finally, the Operation Plan system has the role to plan the future of our SIMC project. In this paper, we will give the result of SIMC Project for each five systems during the fast four years from 2002 to 2005.

Present study examines L1 transfer effect and UG involvement in the acquisition of binding properties of Korean as second language (L2). The study especially investigates i) whether knowledge from different L1s (English and Chinese) affect the interpretation of binding in Korean as L2 and ii) whether L2 learners of Korean differentiate two Korean anaphors like Korean monolinguals do, based on their knowledge of universal form-function correlation of anaphors. 53 post-puberty L2 learners of Korean with English or Chinese L1, together with 30 Korean monolinguals, were tested over Truth Value Judgment Task with stories, composed of Korean sentences representing various types of binding with two Korean reflexives - caki and caki-casin. The results showed some effect of L1 transfer, though not always. Overall, late L2 learners of Korean seem to know the difference between the two anaphors in their properties related to form-function correlation, though their performance level was lower compared to Korean monolinguals. Detailed pattern of the results and the role of UG in the interpretations of Korean reflexives are also discussed.
