제2언어습득에서 부정적 피드백이 갖는 역할에 대한 비판적 고찰: 재조정 입력의 역할을 중심으로 (The role of negative feedback in second language acquisition with a focus on recasts)

  • This paper critically reviewed the role of negative feedback in second language acquisition with a focus on recasts based on the findings of recent research investigating the effects of recasts on second language acquisition. First, recasts as negative feedbacks or negative evidence were reviewed in terms of Pinker's four criteria: the evidence of existence, availability, use, and necessity of recasts in second language acquisition. Second, the issue of the nature of recasts, whether they have benefits in SLA as a negative or positive evidence, was discussed with reference to Leeman(2003)'s research findings. Then, in relation to availability and use of recasts, the issue of the extent that they are noticed by learners was reviewed based on the findings from Philp(2003)'s study. Finally, the limitations of these two studies and the research orientation of future study were mentioned.

The Role of Distributional Cues in the Acquisition of Verb Argument Structures

  • This paper investigates the role of input frequency in the acquisition of verb argument structures based on distributional information of a corpus of utterances derived from the English CHILDES database (MacWhinney 1993). It has been widely accepted that children successfully learn verb argument structures by innate language mechanisms, such as linking rules which connect verb meanings and its syntactic structures. In contrast, an approach to language acquisition called “statistical language learning” has currently claimed that children could succeed in acquiring syntactic structures in the absence of innate language mechanisms, making use of distributional properties of the input. In this paper, I evaluate the feasibility of the statistical learning in acquiring verb argument structures, based on distributional information about locative verbs in parental input. The naturalistic data allow us to investigate to what extent the statistical learning approach can and cannot help children succeed in learning the syntax of locative verbs. Based on the results of English database analysis, I show that there is rich statistical information for learning the syntactic possibilities of locative verbs in parental input, despite some limitations in the statistical learning approach.

On the Role of Prefabricated Speech in L2 Acquisition Process: An Information Processing Approach

  • This study focused on the role of prefabricated speech (routines and patterns) in the L2 acquisition process. The data for this study consisted of spontaneous speech samples and various observational records of three Korean children learning English as L2 in a nursery school. The specific questions addressed here were: (1) What routines, patterns, and creative constructions did the children use? (2) What was the general trend in the three children's use of routines, patterns, and creative constructions over time? The data were collected over a period of one school year by observing the children in their school. The findings were discussed from the perspective of human information processing. This study found that prefabricated speech played a significant role in the three children's L2 acquisition. The automatic processing of prefabricated speech appeared to enable the children to reduce the burden on their information processing systems, which allowed the saved resources available for other language development activities. Also, the children's language development was evident in their increase in the use of patterns. The children were moving from heavy dependence on wholly unanalyzed routines to increased use of partly unanalyzed patterns. This increased control was the result of an increase in procedural knowledge.

패션 명품 소비가치가 획득가치 지각에 미치는 영향과 유보가격의 역할 (The Effects of Fashion Luxury Consumption Values on the Perceived Acquisition Value and the Role of Reservation Price)

  • This research is to understand luxury consumption values for luxury consumers. The aims of this study is to identify their luxury consumption values and the effects of the values on the perceived acquisition value. This study also divided data into two groups according to the difference between reservation price and actual price; positive reservation price group, negative reservation price group, and analyzed the effects of the values on the perceived acquisition value between two groups. In this study, we used structural models equation and results presented that the conceptual model was a good fit to the data. The empirical results suggested four dimensions of luxury consumption values; symbolic value, innovative design value, quality value and origin value. There were positively significant effects of symbolic value and quality value on the perceived acquisition value. The effects of innovative design value on the acquisition value was significantly negative. Two groups categorized by reservation price depicted the differences on effect levels of symbolic value, innovative design value, and quality value on the acquisition value perception.

  • Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) is a management and technical process whereby all the diverse elements needed to fully operate, maintain, and totally support a materiel system in the field are identified, developed, and deployed simultaneously and on an equal priority with the item of materiel being supported. The test and evaluation (T&E)of ILS act the important role of reduction of life-cycle cost and keeping of good performance for weapon system. In this article, we suggest the alternatives for improvement in the test and evaluation of ILS during weapon system acquisition. It is hoped that this research is valuable and beneficial to persons related weapon system acquisition, in order to maximize the efficiency of defense acquisition management by reducing the life-cycle cost and enhancing the quality of weapon system.

Gas Turbine Data Acquisition and Monitoring System for Combined Cycle Power Plant

  • This paper presents a data acquisition and monitoring system for a gas turbine. The proposed system entitled C-Tune DAS plays an important role to make an analysis of the real-time operation of the gas turbine under maintenance. The designed LabVIEW based software is divided into three parts according to their original functions, i.e., data acquisition, data analysis with display, and data storage. The data acquisition part receives data from a PMS (Plant Management System) server and two cFPs (Compact-Field Point). To verify the validity of the developed system, it is applied to gas turbines in the combined cycle power plant in Korea.

Noun versus Verb Bias Revisited

  • Recently, researchers have been debating whether Korean children exhibit a verb bias or not. Since verbs are perceptually and structurally more salient in Korean language, it has been questioned whether these differences in the Korean make a difference in the pattern of noun and verb acquisition of Korean children. Although language structures may vary between Korean and English, universal cognitive constraints play an important role in early vocabulary acquisition. Several recent studies have examined the noun and verb acquisition of Korean children. However, their conclusions regarding the noun versus verb bias have still been inconclusive. In this paper, previous studies investigating Korean children's noun versus verb bias are examined. Methodological issues are mentioned and results were reinterpreted as favoring the noun bias for one-year-old Korean children.

업무지식의 획득 프레임워크 및 적용사례 (A Framework for the Acquisition of Task Knowledge and a Case)

  • Today, corporate knowledge plays a critical role in obtaining competitive advantage. It is often pointed out that corporate knowledge is expected to be able to support various efforts for process innovation. Accordingly, it is important to establish a systematic infrastructure for the acquisition of knowledge which can support business-critical tasks effectively. From this motivation, this paper proposes a framework to guide a series of acquisition procedures for task knowledge and shows how to intemperate with activities for an innovation purpose. Moreover, the useful components of task knowledge are proposed; the schema of the components is ultimately implemented as a repository in a system for the management of task knowledge. To demonstrate the practical usefulness of the framework and the schema components, a real-life case is illustrated.

  • In a contemporary organization, the role of social capital has been increasingly important in sharpening knowledge management practices. The primary objective of this paper is to propose a research model to measure the effects of social capital on individual performance. The model also investigates the mediating mechanism of knowledge acquisition and knowledge transformation, both of which are critical in fostering an enterprise's absorptive capacity. The field data was collected from a knowledge-centric organization. The analysis result reveals that shared goal is crucial in enabling knowledge processes. Furthermore, it is found that knowledge transformation rather than knowledge acquisition is more likely to lead to individual task performance.

The Effect of Mobile Apps on Vocabulary Acquisition in EFL Classroom

  • This study's purpose is to examine the effects of mobile apps on learners' vocabulary acquisition and to analyze students' perceptions and opinions about the vocabulary app. To this end, this study set up a control group, which was given explicit instructions in the classroom by the instructor and an experimental group, which used a vocabulary app. The vocabulary acquisition test results suggested that the difference between the the two groups was insignificant. However, user satisfaction with regard to the mobile app was high, and the reasons given were the following: convenience, efficiency of memorizing, having fun while learning, and the app's interface. Based on these results, this study suggests that teachers should use mobile apps much more actively in classroom instruction, and encourge students to let apps play a more active role in their language studies.
