Robotic Drilling Systems(RDSs) set the standard for the factory automation systems in aerospace manufacturing. With the benefits of cost effective drilling and predictive maintenance, RDSs can provide greater flexibility in the manufacturing process. The system can be easily adopted to manage very complex and time-consuming processes, such as automated fastening hole drilling processes of large aircraft sections, where it would be difficult accomplished by workers following teaching or conventional guided methods. However, in order to build an RDS based on a CAD model, the precise calibration of the Tool Center Point(TCP) must be performed in order to define the relationships between the fastening-hole target and the End Effector(EEF). Based on the kinematics principle, the robot manipulator requires a new method to correct the 3D errors between the CAD model of the reference coordinate system and the actual measurements. The system can be called as a successful system if following conditions can be met; a. seamless integration of the industrial robot controller and the IO Level communication, b. performing pre-defined drilling procedures automatically. This study focuses on implementing a new technology called iGPS into the fastening-hole-drilling process, which is a critical process in aircraft manufacturing. The proposed system exhibits better than 100-micron 3D accuracy under the predefined working space. Based on the proposed EEF fastening-hole machining process, the corresponding processes and programs are developed, and its feasibility is studied.
CP (Cellular Phone) is currently one of the most attractive technologies and RT (Robot Technology) is also considered as one of the most promising next generation technology. We present a new technological concept named RCP (Robotic Cellular Phone), which combines RT and CP. RCP consists of 3 sub-modules, $RCP^{Mobility}$, $RCP^{Interaction}$, and $RCP^{Integration}$. $RCP^{Interaction}$ is the main focus of this paper. It is an interactive emotion system which provides CP with multi-emotional signal receiving functionalities. $RCP^{Interaction}$ is linked with communication functions of CP in order to interface between CP and user through a variety of emotional models. It is divided into a tactile, an olfactory and a visual mode. The tactile signal receiving module is designed by patterns and beat frequencies which are made by mechanical-vibration conversion of the musical melody, rhythm and harmony. The olfactory signal receiving module is designed by switching control of perfume-injection nozzles which are able to give the signal receiving to the CP-called user through a special kind of smell according to the CP-calling user. The visual signal receiving module is made by motion control of DC-motored wheel-based system which can inform the CP-called user of the signal receiving through a desired motion according to the CP-calling user. In this paper, a prototype system is developed for multi-emotional signal receiving modes of CP. We describe an overall structure of the system and provide experimental results of the functional modules.

The EGR system is one of important components in diesel engine. The regulation on NOx emission has been tightened up. Therefore, it is a significant issue to develop and commercialize the high efficient EGR cooler system that reduces NOx emission in DI diesel engine. Key performance factor of the EGR cooler system is how to properly design both wavy cooling fins and gas tubes. This paper proposes a high efficient EGR cooler that has been upgraded with both the optimized wavy cooling fins and the improved shape of structure. The evaluation of the heat exchange efficiency, outlet temperature, and gas pressure drop of the EGR cooler is performed with the prototype of the proposed EGR cooler. The result shows a good solution and will be implemented to the model of a clean diesel engine being developed for both domestic and overseas market.
본 논문은 URC(Ubiquitous Robotic Companion)라는 지능형 로봇에 웹서비스 기반의 실시간 감시/제어 방법을 제안한다.

This paper presents the use of the neural network technology to establish a mathematical model for predicting bead geometry (top-bead width, top-bead height, back-bead width and back-bead height) for multi-pass welding, and understand relationships between process parameters and bead geometry for robotic GMA welding process. Using a series of robotic arc welding, additional multi-pass butt welds were carried out in order to verify the performance of the developed neural network model. The results show that not only the proposed model can predict the bead geometry with reasonable accuracy and guarantee the uniform weld quality, but also the neural network model could be better than the linear and curvilin ear equations developed from Lee [8].
Arc welding process is one of the most important technologies to join metal plates. Robotic welding offers the reduced manufacturing cost sought, but its widespread use demands a means of sensing and correcting for inaccuracies in the part, the fixturing and the robot. A number of problems that need to be addressed in robotic arc welding processes include sensing, joint tracking, and lack of adequate models for process parameter prediction and quality control. Problems with parameter settings and quality control occur frequently in the GMA(Gas Metal Arc) welding process due to the large number of interactive process parameters that must be set and accurately controlled. The objectives of this paper are to realize the mapping characteristics of bead width using a sensitivity analysis and develop the neural network and multiple regression method, and finally select the most accurate model in order to control the weld quality(bead width) for fillet welding. The experimental results show that the proposed neural network estimator can predict bead width with reasonable accuracy, and guarantee the uniform weld quality.
This study was carried out to measure the 3D-distance of a cow model teat for an application possibility on Robotic Milking System(RMS). A teat recognition algorithm was made to find 3D-distance of the model by using Gonzalrez's theory. Some of the results are as follows. 1 . In the distance measurement experiment on the test board, as the measured length, and the length between the center of image surface and the measured image point became longer, their error values increased. 2. The model teat was installed and measured the error value at the random position. The error value of X and Y coordinates was less than 5㎜, and that of Z coordinates was less than 20㎜. The error value increased as the distance of camera's increased. 3. The equation for distance information acquirement was satisfied with obtaining accurate distance that was necessary for a milking robot to trace teats, A teat recognition algorithm was recognized well four model cow teats. It's processing time was about 1 second. It appeared that a teat recognition algorithm could be used to determine the 3D-distance of the cow teat to develop a RMS.
In designing assembly lines, it is required that the lines should not only meet the demand of the product, but also minimize the assembly cost associated with the line. For such a purpose, numerous research efforts have been made on either the assembly sequence generation or the assembly line balancing. However, the works dealing with both the research problems have been seldom reported in literature. When assembly sequences are generated without consideration of line balancing, additional cost may be incurred, because the sequences may not guarantee the minimum number of workstations. Therefore, it is essential to consider line balancing in the generation of cost-effective assembly sequences. To incorporate the two research problems into one, this paper treats a single-model and deterministic (SMD) assembly line balancing (ALB) problem, and proposes a new method for generating line-balanced robotic assembly sequences by using a simulated annealing. In this method, an energy function is derived in consideration of the satisfaction of assembly constraints, and the minimization of both the assembly cost and the idle time. Then, the energy function is iteratively minimized and occasionally perturbed by the simulated annealing. When no further change in energy occurs, an assembly sequence with consideration of line balancing is finally found. To show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme, a case study for an electrical relay is presented.
