  • In this paper, the design and the implementation of a robust adaptive controller for trajectory tracking of robot manipulator is presented. The proposed control scheme ensures that tracking errors are converged to some boundaries in the presence of a state-dependent input disturbances as well as the ideal case without any prior knowledge of the robot manipulator parameters. The 3 DOF robot manipulator including actuator dynamics is used for the implementation of the proposed control scheme. The experimental results show that the proposed control scheme is valid for trajectory tracking of the robot manipulator.

  • In this paper, we proposed a navigation algorithm of the mobile robot for obstacle avoidance using a circular path planning method. The proposed method makes circular paths in order to avoid obstacles in the front side of the mobile robot. An optimal path for approaching to the target is selected and the linear and angular speeds for stable moving of the mobile robot are controlled. Obstacles are detected by image processing which reduce image data obtained from a web camera. Performance of the proposed algorithm is shown by experiments with application to the Pioneer-2DX mobile robot.

  • In this paper, we propose that the chaotic behavior analysis in the mobile robot of embedding some chaotic such as Chua`s equation, Arnold equation with obstacle. In order to analysis of chaotic behavior in the mobile robot, we apply not only qualitative analysis such as time-series, embedding phase plane, but also quantitative analysis such as Lyapunov exponent In the mobile robot with obstacle. We consider that there are two type of obstacle, one is fixed obstacle and the other is VDP obstacle which have an unstable limit cycle. In the VDP obstacles case, we only assume that all obstacles in the chaos trajectory surface in which robot workspace has an unstable limit cycle with Van der Pol equation.

  • In this paper, to improve the efficiency of welding and user convenience in the shipbuilding industry, a PC-based off-line programming (OLP) technique and the development of a robot transfer unit are presented. The developed OLP system is capable of not only robot motion simulations but also automatic generations of a series of robot programs. The strength of the developed OLP system lies in its flexibility in handling the changes of the welding robot's target objects. Moreover, for a precise transfer of the robot to a desired location, an auxiliary mobile platform named a robot-origin-transfer-unit (ROTU) was developed. To enhance the cornering capability of the platform in a narrow area, the developed ROTU is equipped with 2 steering wheels and 1 driving wheel. Both the OLP and the ROTU were fieldtested and their performances were proven successful.

  • According to the advancement of web related technologies, many works on robots using these technologies, called web-based robots enables sharing of expensive equipments as well as control of remote robots. But none of the existing methods about web-based robots in-clude robot simulators in their web browser, which transfer appropriate information of a remote place to the local users. In this paper, a web-based robot simulator is proposed and developed to control a remote robot by using the web. The proposed simulator can transfer the 3D information about the remote robot to the local users by using 3D graphics, which has not been previously developed. Also, it sends the camera image of a remote place to the local users so that the users can use this camera image as well as 3D information in order to control the remote robot.

  • This article describes the methods of a decision of the location which user points to move by an optical device like a laser pointer and a moving to that location. Using a conic mirror and CCD camera sensor, a robot observes a spot of user wanted point among an initiative, computes the location and azimuth and moves to that position. This system offers the brief data to a processor with simple devices. In these reason, we can reduce the time of a calculation to process of images and find the target by user point for carrying a robot. User points a laser spot on a point to be moved so that this sensor system in the robot, detecting the laser spot point with a conic mirror, laid on the robot, showing a camera. The camera is attached on the robot upper body and fixed parallel to the ground and the conic mirror.

  • In this paper, we introduce software development process for autonomous mobile robot with LEGO RCX. The software is designed from course analysis and a series of software design processes are applied for the development. Various control methods are devised to identify robot's location and to optimize the running strategy. To assure realtime property and reliability of the software, we adopted software engineering processes during the development. In this paper, we report the detailed software design processes and the implementation result that we have experienced with our practical LEGO robot platform.

  • In this paper, we presents a behavior planning for humanoid robots using behavior primitive in 3 dimensional workspace. Also, we define behavior primitives that humanoid robot accomplishes various tasks effectively. Humanoid robot obtains information of the outside environment and its inner information from various sensors in complex workspace with various obstacles. We verify our approach on a developed small humanoid robot using embedded vision and sensor system in a experimental environment. The experimental results show that the humanoid robot performs its tasks fast and effectively.

  • This paper presents methods of robot localization using recent radio frequency identification technology. If the absolute position and orientation of a tag are given in an indoor environment where RFID tags are installed, a robot can estimate its location using the relationship of the identified tag and the robot in a relative coordinate. To derive this relationship, we propose three estimation techniques using a model of a RFID reader, the direction of identification and the detection range. In this algorithm, a suitable estimation method is selected out of the three proposed techniques depending on the situations and trajectory of robot in the detection range. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed methods can provide good performance for localization.

  • An optimal trajectory generation algorithm for capturing a moving object by a mobile robot in real-time is proposed in this paper. The linear and rotational velocities of the moving object are estimated using the Kalman filter, as a state estimator. For the estimation, the moving object is tracked by a 2-DOF active camera mounted on the mobile robot, which enables a mobile manipulator to track the mobile robot until the capturing moment. The optimal trajectory for capturing the moving object is dependent on the initial conditions of the mobile robot as well as the moving object. Therefore, real-time trajectory planning for the mobile robot is definitely required for the successful capturing of the moving object. The performance of proposed algorithm is verified through the real experiments and the superiority is demonstrated by comparing to other algorithms.
