  • In this paper, optimal fuzzy systems using vector quantization and fuzzy logic controllers are designed for vision-based robot control systems. The complexity of the optimal fuzzy system for vision-based control systems is so great that it can not be applied to real vision-based control systems or it can not be useful, because there are so many input-output pairs. Therefore, we generally use the clustering of input-output pairs, in order to reduce the complexity of optimal fuzzy systems. To increase the effectiveness of the clustering, a vector quantization clustering method is proposed. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method experimentally, it is applied to a vision-based arm robot control system.

  • In this paper, accurate position control of a stenciling robot manipulator is designed. The stenciling robot is requried to draw lines and characters on the pavement. Since the robot is huge and heavy, the inertia is expected to play a major role in the tracking performance as desired. Here we are proposing neural network control scheme for a computed-torque like controller for the stenciling robot. On-line compensation is achieved by neural network. Simulation studies with stenciling robot are carried out to test the performance of the proposed control scheme.

  • Performance of force tracking impedance control of robot manipulators is degraded by the uncertainties in the robot and environment dynamic model. The purpose of this paper is to improve the controller robustness by applying neural network. Neural networks are designed to learn the uncertainties in robot and environment model for compensating the uncertainties. The proposed scheme is verified through the simulation of 20DOF robot manipulator.

  • We propose a new method of robot manipulator modeling. Different from existing modelers, our modeler provides a convenient robot modeling configured from modules from module library or module modeling. In addition, a way of using D-H parameters to configure a robot is proposed. These additional functions of robot modeling can be a powerful and flexible tool for various needs of robot modeling. We show an example of modeling with our approach.

  • A quadruped monitoring robot is introduced. The robot has several features that poses arbitrary position thanks to a 4-wheel hive mechanism, transmits an image and command data via RF wireless communication, and moreover, the imaged date are transferred through a network communication. The robot plays a role in monitoring what is happening around the robot and covers wide range due to a moving camera operated by the 4-wheel mechanism. The robot system can be applied k versatile models based the distinguished techniques introduced in this paper

  • In this paper we describe an approach to coordinating the motion of a human with a mobile robot moving in a populated, continuously changing. natural environment. Our test application is a wheelchair accompanying a person through the concourse of a railway station moving side by side with the person. Our approach is based on a method for motion planning amongst moving obstacles known as Velocity Obstacle approach. We extend this method by a method for tracking a virtual target which allows us to vary the robot's heading and velocity with the locomotion of the accompanied person and the state of the surrounding environment.

  • In this paper, the simple geometric kinematics of a three-wheeled holonomic mobile robot is proposed. Wheel architecture is developed for the holonomic mobile platform in order to provide omni-directional motions by three individually driven and steered wheels. Three types of basic motions are proposed for the path generation of the developed mobile robot. All paths of the mobile robot can be achieved through a combination of the proposed basic motion trajectories. The proposed method is verified through computer simulations and the developed mobile robot.

  • This paper presents a modified disturbance observer (MDOB) for controlling two arms of a manipulator designed for a home service robot. The MDOB is slightly different from the original DOB in that it uses an accelerometer to measure acceleration of the robot arm. Then it uses the acceleration to estimate the disturbance to cancel out in the control loop. Relying on the acceleration information of the robot arm, a partial model-based control structure is formed. Experimental studies of position control of 2 DOF robot arm are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed position control by an MDOB method.

  • Recently the need for cooperative control among robots is increasing in a variety of industrial robot applications. Such a control framework enhances the efficiency of the real robotic assembly environment along with extending the robot application. In this paper, an ethernet-based cooperative control framework was proposed. The cooperative control of robots can multiply the handling capacity of robot system, and make it possible to implement jigless cooperation, due to realization of trajectory-synchronized movement between a master robot and slave robots. Coordinate transformation was used to relate among robots in a common coordinate. An optimized ethernet protocol of HiNet was developed to maximize the speed of communication and to minimize the error of synchronous movement. The proposed algorithm and optimization of network protocol was tested in several class of robots.
