  • This paper presents the implementation and control of a two wheeled mobile robot(TWMR) based on a balancing mechanism. The TWMR is a mobile inverted pendulum structure that combines an inverted pendulum system and a mobile robot system with two arms instead of a rod. To improve robustness due to disturbances, the radial basis function (RBF) network is used to control an angle and a position at the same time. The reference compensation technique(RCT) is used as a neural control method. Experimental studies are conducted to demonstrate performance of neural network controllers. The robot are implemented with the remote control capability.

  • Since most autonomous mobile robots are powered by a battery, it is important to increase the continuous operating time without recharging. This can be achieved by improving the energy efficiency of a mobile robot, but little research on energy efficiency has been performed. This paper proposes two methods for improving the energy efficiency of an omnidirectional mobile robot.. One method is to realize a continuously variable transmission (CVT) by adopting the mechanism of steerable omnidirectional wheels. The other is the proposed steering algorithm in which wheel arrangement of the mobile robot is continuously adjusted so as to obtain the maximum energy efficiency of the motors during navigation. In addition, new omnidirectional wheels which can be transformed to the conventional wheels depending on the driving conditions are proposed to compensate for less efficient omnidirectional drive mode. Various tests show that motion control of the OMR-SOW works satisfactorily and the proposed steering algorithm for CVT can provide higher energy efficiency than the algorithm using a fixed steering angle. In addition, it is shown that the differential drive mode can give better energy efficiency than the omnidirectional drive mode.

  • Recently, there are lots of concerning on ubiquitous environment of robots and URC (Ubiquitous Robotic Companion). In this paper, a practical ubiquitous interface system far controlling mobile robots in indoor environments was proposed. The interface system was designed as a manager-agent model including a PC manager, a mobile manager, and robot agents for being able to be accessed by any network. In the system, the PC manager has a 3D virtual environment and shows real images for a human-friendly interface, and share the computation load of the robot such as path planning and managing geographical information. It also contains Hybrid Format Manager(HFM) working for transforming the image, position, and control data and interchanging them between the robots and the managers. Mobile manager working in the minimized computing condition of handsets has a mobile interface environment displaying the real images and the position of the robot and being able to control the robots by pressing keys. Experimental results showed the proposed system was able to control robots rising wired and wireless LAN and mobile Internet.

  • In this paper, we propose a vision-based simultaneous localization and map-building (SLAM) algorithm. SLAM problem asks the location of mobile robot in the unknown environments. Therefore, this problem is one of the most important processes of mobile robots in the outdoor operation. To solve this problem, Extended Kalman filter (EKF) is widely used. However, this filter requires computational power (${\sim}O(N)$, N is the dimension of state vector). To reduce the computational complexity, we applied compressed extended Kalman filter (CEKF) to stereo image sequence. Moreover, because the mobile robots operate in the outdoor environments, we should estimate full d.o.f.s of mobile robot. To evaluate proposed SLAM algorithm, we performed the outdoor experiments. The experiment was performed by using new wheeled type mobile robot, Robhaz-6W. The performance results of CEKF SLAM are presented.

  • In this paper, a mask-panel alignment robot system is considered for IT industry applications. Two kinds of solutions are suggested which are required in constructing a control system for the alignment robot with actuation redundancy. First, the kinematic solution for the 4PPR parallel positioning mechanism is formulated for an arbitrary initial posture, which relates the mask-panel misalignment in the task space and the desired actuator displacements in the joint space. Secondly, in order to increase the stiffness of the control motion and also to avoid the mechanical lock which may happen due to the redundant actuation, a new synchronous control method is proposed which has the merit of coordinating joint control motions while not losing individual joint control performance. In addition, the engineering process to develop a visual alignment robot system is described with the results of experimental setup and GUI software. Finally, the experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed alignment system control methodology and how much beneficial it will be in real industrial applications.

  • In this paper, we propose a new technique for path-following of the wheeled mobile robot systems with nonholonomic constraints using a path-observer. We discuss the path-following problems of the nonholonomic mobile robot systems which have two nonsteerable, independently driven wheels with the various initial conditions such as a position, a heading angle, and a velocity. It is shown that the performance of dynamic path-following importantly is affected by the intial conditions. Particularly, if the initial conditions become more distant from the desired path and the desired velocity become faster, the system is shown to have worse performance and small time local stable. To find the controllable and stable control for path-following with various initial configuration, we propose the path-observer which can be used for control of the stable path-following of nonholonomic mobile robot system with the various initial conditions. The proposed scheme exhibits the efficient path-following properties for nonholonomic mobile robot in any intial conditions. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method for dynamic path-following tasks with the various initial conditions.

From this paper will load Network Camera in Mobile Robot based on embedded Linux and Goal is in the system embodiment will be able to track the intruder. From Network Camera uses Wireless Lan transmits an image with server, grasps direction of the intruder used Block Matching algorithms from server, transmits direction information and tracks an intruder. The robot tracks the intruder according to gets the effective image of an intruder. In compliance with this paper the system which is embodied is linked with a different surveillance system and as intelligent surveillance system there is a possibility of becoming worse a reliability.

  • The accurate estimation of position and direction of the mobile robot is essential for preparing precise movement and works in the inner complex environment. In this paper, we propose a robust estimation method of location and direction using the velocity of mobile robot in the inner GPS environment. The estimation using the inner GPS with ultrasonic sensors have to consider with various acoustic noise and sensor errors. We design a robust estimation method using a membership function based on uncertainty of the obtained information and robot velocity. The simulation results of the proposed method show effectiveness in the contaminated environment with position errors.

  • Autonomous mobile robot has an ability to navigate using both map in known environment and sensors for detecting obstacles in unknown environment. In general, autonomous mobile robot navigates by global path planning on the basis of already made map and local path planning on the basis of various kinds of sensors to avoid abrupt obstacles. This paper provides a global path planning method using self-organizing feature map which is a method among a number of neural network. The self-organizing feature map uses a randomized small valued initial weight vectors, selects the neuron whose weight vector best matches input as the winning neuron, and trains the weight vectors such that neurons within the activity bubble are move toward the input vector. On the other hand, the modified method in this research uses a predetermined initial weight vectors, gives the systematic input vector whose position best matches obstacles, and trains the weight vectors such that neurons within the activity bubble are move toward the input vector. According to simulation results one can conclude that the modified neural network is useful tool for the global path planning problem of a mobile robot.

  • In this paper, a practical technique for correction of a distorted image for vision-based localization of ubiquitous mobile robot. The localization of mobile robot is essential and is realized by using camera vision system. In order to wide the view angle of camera, the vision system includes a fish-eye lens, which distorts the image. Because a mobile robot moves rapidly, the image processing should he fast to recognize the localization. Thus, we propose the practical correction technique for a distorted image, verify the Performance by experimental test.
