The purpose of this study was to explore the components of the geriatric robot pet, which might be helpful in caring for elderly people in the future. Focus group interview-with two focus groups-was performed between August 2014 and December 2014. Study participants were 13 geriatric experts from nursing, medicine, social work, and physical/occupational therapy. All interview data were transcribed, followed by debriefing and a qualitative content analysis. Three main themes emerged: acknowledgment of the usefulness of geriatric robot pet, establishment of elderly-centered appearance, and the functions of the robot pet to meet the needs of elders and family members. The robot pet was considered to be useful to elders who live alone since they can benefit from companionship and care provided by the robot pet. Geriatric robot pet needs to be manageable in size and weight, like a small dog. Moreover, a function that allows for interaction with and monitoring the elderly would be beneficial. The baseline elements that could guide further development of contents for the Korean geriatric robot pet were proposed from the results of FGI. Studies that validate these elements are necessary.

Off-line programming and robot calibration through simulation are essential when setting up a robot in a robot automation production line. In this study, we developed a new robot calibration method to match the CAD data of the production line with the measurement data on the site using 3D scanner. The proposed method calibrates the robot using 3D point cloud data through Iterative Closest Point algorithm. Registration is performed in three steps. First, vertices connected by three planes are extracted from CAD data as feature points for registration. Three planes are reconstructed from the scan point data located around the extracted feature points to generate corresponding feature points. Finally, the transformation matrix is calculated by minimizing the distance between the feature points extracted through the ICP algorithm. As a result of applying the software to the automobile welding robot installation, the proposed method can calibrate the required accuracy to within 1.5mm and effectively shorten the set-up time, which took 5 hours per robot unit, to within 40 minutes. By using the developed system, it is possible to shorten the OLP working time of the car body assembly line, shorten the precision teaching time of the robot, improve the quality of the produced product and minimize the defect rate.

Improvement of welding property of seat fiame is necessary for safety because seat frame is a unique connecting structural part between the rider and vehicle. Generally the robot and jig system for own use is used for welding of seat frame and unwelded zone can be inspected because of the geometrical interference between robot and jig system. In this study the unwelded zone of the conventional welding jig system is analysed and the 3D modeling and design change to solve the problem is discussed. As a result the weldability of system is improved and the manual welding jig is unnecessary because of the optimal jig system.

As the production of electronic goods increases, poor products increase. Smart phone lens has much probability of breakage due to vibration happened at machine during the procedure of production. At this study model of smart phone, robot installed at guide rail is applied by various load according to its mass and investigated with vibration analysis. The analysis result in this study is thought to supply the material necessary at safe design and development on manufacturing machine system of smart phone lens by assembled automation.

Since conventional mobile robot control with one module has limitation to solve complex problems, there have been a variety of works on combining multiple modules for solving them. Recently, many researchers attempt to develop mobile robot controllers using artificial life techniques. In this paper, we develop a mobile robot controller using cellular automata based neural networks, where complex tasks are divided to simple sub-tasks and optimal neural structure of each sub-task is explored by genetic algorithm. Neural network modules are combined dynamically using the action selection mechanism, where basic behavior modules compete each other by inhibition and cooperation. Khepera mobile robot simulator is used to verify the proposed model. Experimental results show that complex behaviors emerge from the combination of low-level behavior modules.
This paper presents a decentralized coordination for a small-scale mobile robot teams performing a task through cooperation. Robot teams are required to generate and maintain various geometric patterns adapting to an environment and/or a task in many cooperative applications. In particular, all robots must continue to strive toward achieving the team's mission even if some members fail to perform their role. Toward this end, given the number of robots in a team, an effective coordination is investigated for decentralized formation control strategies. Specifically, all members are required first to reach agreement on their coordinate system and have an identifier (ID) for role assignment in a self-organizing way. Then, employing IDs on individual robots within a common coordinate system, a decentralized neighbor-referenced formation control is realized to generate, keep, and switch between different geometric shapes. This approach is verified using an in-house simulator and physical mobile robots. We detail and evaluate the formation control approach, whose common features include self-organization, robustness, and flexibility.

This research focuses on controlling robots and their formations using rough mereology as a means for spatial reasoning. The authors present the state of the art theory behind path planning, robot cooperation domains and ways of creating robot formations. Furthermore, the theory behind Rough Mereology as a way of implementing mereological potential field based path creation and navigation for single and multiple robots is described. An implementation of the algorithm is shown in simulation using RoboSim simulator. Five formations are tested (Line, Rhomboid, Snake, Circle, Cross) along with three decision systems (First In, Leader First, Horde Mode) as compared to other methods.

Using home network system including home server, home service robot, a variety of device, it is generally known that application of Multi Agent System for performing variously distributed process that can be occur in home environment, is efficient method. In this system, it is intelligent service robot that a key of human interface and physical service offer Therefore, using application of established multi agent system, we can defined Multi Agent Robot System. In 'open' home environment, between all agent data interaction and cooperation are needed for Multi Agent System offer to user that more efficient service. For this, we focus our attention on define as agent that can autonomic drive and offer to user that physical service robots and, design, suggest the simulator can display that between robot agents communication or between other agents, like home server, and robot agents communication information to user interface.

In this paper, a smart home service robot McBot II is newly developed in much more practical and intelligent system than McBot I which we had developed a few years ago. Thus far, vacuum-cleaners have lightened the burden of household chores but the operational labor that vacuum-cleaners entail has been very severe. Recently, a cleaning robot was commercialized to solve but it also was not successful because it still had the problem of mess-cleanup, which pertained to the clean-up of large trash and the arrangement of newspapers, clothes, etc. Hence, we develop a new home mess-cleanup robot McBot II to completely overcome this problem on real environments. The mechanical design and the basic control of McBot II, which performs mess-cleanup function etc. in house, is actually focused in this paper. McBot II is mechanically modeled in the same method that the human works in door by using the waist and the hands. The big-ranged vertical lift and the shoulder joints to be able to forward move are mechanically designed for the operating function as the human's waist when the robot works. The mobility of McBot II is designed in the holonomic mobile robot for the collision avoidance of obstacle and the high speed navigation on the small area in door. Finally, good performance of McBot II, which has been optimally desinged, is confirmed through the experimental results for the control of the robotic body, mobility, arms and hands in this paper.
This paper proposes methods for the cooperative control of multiple mobile robots and constructs a robotic soccer system in which the cooperation will be implemented as a pass play of two robots. To play a soccer game, elementary actions such as shooting and moving have been designed, and Q-learning, which is one of the popular methods for reinforcement learning, is used to determine what actions to take. Through simulation, learning is successful in case of deliberate initial arrangements of ball and robots, thereby cooperative work can be accomplished.
