Numerical study on the thermal performance characteristics of the stack system for FCEV (연료전지 자동차용 스택 시스템의 열적 성능 특성에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to numerically investigate the heat transfer rate for evaluating the thermal performances of the stack thermal system using the commercial software. In order to perform this, the cooling performances of the stack system for fuel cell electric vehicle were tested under both driving road conditions including the general driving road and uphill driving road and operating conditions with and without of the air conditioning system. The heat transfer rate of the stack radiator for the stack system was increased with the increase of the inlet air flow velocity. The heat transfer rate of the stack radiator increased by 105.3% at the coolant flow rate of 20 l/min and 221.3% at the coolant flow rate of 120 l/min with the increase of the air flow velocity from 2 m/s to 10 m/s. $9.45^{\circ}C$ of inlet coolant temperature of the stack radiator at the severe driving condition of the slope of 8% and velocity of 50 km/h showed higher 85.3% than $5.1^{\circ}C$ of inlet coolant temperature at the general driving condition of the slope of 0% and velocity of 120 km/h. In addition, as the fuel cell electric vehicle with the air conditioning system operation was driving under severe uphill driving condition, the radiator coolant temperature for a stable stack operation could be exceeded over $70^{\circ}C$.

  • Gradual attrition of telomere to a critical short length elicits successive cellular response of cellular senescence and crisis. Cancer cells evade this process by maintaining functional telomeres via one of two known mechanisms of telomere maintenance. The first and most frequent mechanism involves reactivation of enzyme activity of telomerase, a ribonucleoprotein complex mainly via transcriptional up-regulation of TERT, a catalytic subunit of telomerase complex. The second mechanism utilizes telomerase-independent way termed ALT (for Alternative Lengthening of Telomere), which possibly involves recombination pathways. Thus master key for cellular immortalization is supposed to possess adequate telomere reserves. Indeed, telomerase can alone induce the immortalization under culture on feeder cell layers without generally known inactivation mechanism of tumor suppressor genes. Including this phenomena, this review will focus on telomerase and telomere-associated proteins, thereby implication of these proteins for cellular immortalization processes.

An Efficient Indexing Technique for Location Prediction of Moving Objects in the Road Network Environment (도로 네트워크 환경에서 이동 객체 위치 예측을 위한 효율적인 인덱싱 기법)

  • The necessity of future index is increasing to predict the future location of moving objects promptly for various location-based services. A representative research topic related to future index is the probability trajectory prediction technique that improves reliability using the past trajectory information of moving objects in the road network environment. However, the prediction performance of this technique is lowered by the heavy load of extensive future trajectory search in long-range future queries, and its index maintenance cost is high due to the frequent update of future trajectory. Thus, this paper proposes the Probability Cell Trajectory-Tree (PCT-Tree), a cell-based future indexing technique for efficient long-range future location prediction. The PCT-Tree reduces the size of index by rebuilding the probability of extensive past trajectories in the unit of cell, and improves the prediction performance of long-range future queries. In addition, it predicts reliable future trajectories using information on past trajectories and, by doing so, minimizes the cost of communication resulting from errors in future trajectory prediction and the cost of index rebuilding for updating future trajectories. Through experiment, we proved the superiority of the PCT-Tree over existing indexing techniques in the performance of long-range future queries.

Improvement of Chromosome Doubling Efficiency in Cymbidium Hybrids by Colchicine and Oryzalin Treatment (Colchicine과 oryzalin 처리에 의한 Cymbidium hybrids의 기내 배수화 효율 증진)

  • This study aimed to investigate the efficiency of colchicine and oryzalin in inducing polyploidy in two Cymbidium hybrids [Showgirl 'Silky' and Mystery Island 'Silk Road' (Silk Road-4)]. Colchicine was used at concentrations ranging from 50 to $500mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$, with treatments lasting 1 to 3 weeks. Oryzalin was used at concentrations ranging from 3 to $20mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$, with treatments lasting 3 to 6 days or 1 to 3 weeks. The survival rate of PLBs was better in colchicine than in oryzalin solutions. The ploidy levels were screened using flow cytometry. In C. Showgirl 'Silky', the highest chromosome doubling efficiencies were obtained with the 1-week treatment in $50mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ colchicine (60%) and the 2-week treatment in $5mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ oryzalin (46.7%). In C. Mystery Island 'Silk Road' (Silk Road-4), the highest chromosome doubling efficiencies were obtained with the 1-week treatment in $50mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ colchicine (16.7%) and the 3-day treatment in $10mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ oryzalin (6.7%). Colchicine was more efficient than oryzalin in terms of polyploidy induction. Furthermore, pre-treatment, which entailed poking 10 times with forceps, improved the efficiency of chromosome doubling.

  • A thematic land cover map of Pusan port area was developed using Landsat satellite TM(Thematic Mapper) image. Two types of digital data which are road and sea water layer are extracted from existing paper map were overlayed over the developed land cover map. SPIN-2(KNR-1000) image was utilized to make a facility map of JaSungDae port. SPIN-2 image, which has a cell resolution of 1.56 m showed higer accuracy than TM image, which has a cell resolution of 30 m for facility mapping. Overall, the techniques of digital mapping using satellite image are very useful, effective and efficient.

  • In microcell or picocell mobile communication using cellular method, we suggested propagation prediction model which can accurately and rapidly interpret mobile communication propagation environment in urban, when subscriber service is done based on the main road in urban. Further, we simulated suggested propagation prediction model under the hypothesis of urban propagation environment of PCS mobile communication, analyzed receiving field strength by area within a cell, and finally suggested the optimal transmitting power and location condition of microcell or picocell mobile communication base station

  • A new design procedure for micro cellular coverage prediction is presented here on this paper, which contains a new propagation analysis algorithm based on processing of vector data representing roads and buildings which mainly affect the propagation phenomena in micro-cell environments. The propagation analysis algorithm presented here has been developed to aim at the practical application for micro-cellular systems such as PCS or CE-2. As all the vectors used here are of closed poly lines, i.e., polygons, a simplified ray path search technique can be developed not only to determine if the calculation points are on the road polygons and but also to calculate the amount of blockage by buildings. The result shows a capability of predicting path loss with an RMS error of 5dB or lower.

  • This study evaluated the effect of improving the atmospheric environment based on the premise that the supply of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (HFCV) will be achieved as many as the number of vehicles presented in the hydrogen economy activation roadmap announced by the Korean government in January 2019. The HFCV supply target (2.7 million passenger cars) suggested in the hydrogen economy revitalization roadmap was logically allocated to the five major metropolitan areas in Korea. Air pollution damage costs by region were calculated by reflecting the basic unit of damage cost to the estimated air pollutant emissions. As a result, it was confirmed that the benefits per unit of some cities in Gyeonggi-do were derived more than major cities in the metropolitan area.

  • This study aims to verify the applicability of TRANSIMS (TRansportion ANalysis SIMulation System) in interrupted traffic flow through calibration and validation process based on observation data; such as headway, traffic volume, speed, and travel time from Dalguberl Boulevard in Dae-gu metropolitan city. On this study, several micro-simulation parameters are derived from the calibration and validation process through performing a headway comparison and applying an ID back tracking methodology. As a result, it is figured out that actual circumstances of Korean roadway; for example, traffic volume per lane, speed, and travel time, can be applied on the TRANSIMS. Especially, it was possible to find out the influence of cell size parameter to traffic flow characteristic of simulation. However, it is hard to conclude that TRANSIMS is applicable to Korean roadway environment with studying particular target area. Therefore, additional studies; such as more case studies with various types of road, signal, and land use, will be required to localize TRANSIMS to Korea.

New Approach to Two-wheeler Detection using Correlation Coefficient based on Histogram of Oriented Gradients

  • This study aims to suggest a new algorithm for detecting two-wheelers on road that have various shapes according to the viewing angle for vision based intelligent vehicles. This article describes a new approach to two-wheelers detection algorithm riding on people based on modified Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) using correlation coefficient (CC). The CC between two local area variables, in which one is the person riding a bike and other is its background, can represent correlation relation. First, we extract edge vectors using HOG which includes gradient information and differential magnitude as cell based. And then, the value, which is calculated by the CC between the area of each cell and one of two-wheelers, can be extracted as the weighting factor in process for normalizing the modified HOG cell. This paper applied the Adaboost algorithm to make a strong classification from weak classification. In this experiment, we can get the result that the detection rate of the proposed method is higher than that of the traditional method.
