Changes in the physical and chemical properties of soil materials during the nursing process have a great influence on the quality of containerized seedlings and on growth and survival after planting. In this study, the effect of biomaterials and their mixed ratios on the growth of Zelkova serrata seedlings in a containerized seedling production system was investigated. Mushroom sawdust, pine bark, and carbonized rice husk were used as biomaterials. The mixed ratios were 10% and 20% volume ratio of the growing medium volume, including the untreated controls. There was no significant difference in the height growth of the Zelkova serrata seedlings according to the biomaterials. The root collar diameter was the highest with the 20% carbonized rice husk and the lowest with the mushroom sawdust. The difference between the highest quality index and the lowest quality index was 30% in the order of the carbonized rice husk, pine bark, control, and mushroom sawdust, but there was no statistical significance. In this study, if the growing medium mixed with biomaterials does not reduce the seedling growth compared with the control, it is considered that the biomaterial can replace a part of the growing media. Therefore, the results show that some of the growing media can be replaced with carbonized rice husk or pine bark when producing Zelkova serrata seedlings.

In order to supplement insufficient nutrients of paper sludges, additional materials such as saw dust and rice husk were added during preparation of bed soils. Rice husk was more finely ground, compared to saw dust. The fine particles of the rice husk prevented their flow in a barrel of the expander. The mixed additives with paper sludges could be used to control the quantity of required nutrients for raising plants. That is, except for potassium and manganese, most of nutrients were decreased with adding the additives to paper sludge. The acidity of the paper sludges mixed with the saw dust or the rice husk was a little decreased with the increased amount of the additives. Differently from the bulk density of the paper sludges, the moisture content and the water absorption rate of the paper sludges were incremented with increasing the additives.
In this paper, a laboratory investigation was carried out to change the geotechnical properties of clayey soil with quicklime and rice husk ash for surplus soil strength improvement. The organic content of soils is 8.67%, 6.45% and 3.84% respectively. The geotechnical properties of treated soil were evaluated by a series of laboratory unconfined compression test, consolidation test and etc. The test results indicated that the presence of RHA enhanced the efficiency of lime stabilization. Especially, the increase in strength is very high at the first stage, while the significant improvement occurs in a sample C with organic content of 3.84%. These results can be identified by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscope(SEM). The results of consolidation test indicate that the presence of RHA with lime reduces the properties of swelling of soil. Thus, it was verified that the addition of RHA is more effective than using only lime for soil stabilization.

Growing plant in potting media without soil is known as Soilless cultivation. This method is used mostly in greenhouse cultivation to increase horticultural commodities production. Peat moss is commonly utilized as potting media substrate because of its characteristic. However, peat moss price is high because of the quantity of peat moss in nature has been decreased. Recently, most of the research is conducted to find the alternative growing medium to cultivate horticulture plant in potting media. Perlite and rice husk ash were mentioned that had a potent as alternative growing media for seasonal plants to increase agriculture production due to the lack of production area. This research aims to determine the growth of in rice husk ash, perlite and peat moss as growing substrates. The method used was the soilless cultivation. The chinese cabbage was planted in the pot with perlite media, rice husk ash media, and peat moss media. The chinese cabbage was measured after 35 days after planting. The result showed that peatmoss was more potentials in chinese cabbage growth performance than rice husk ash and perlite. Peat moss had the significant result of every research parameters such as plant height, plant weight, number of leaves, plant diameter, root length, and root weight. The best alternative for cultivation chinese cabbage without substrate based on this research was peat moss then rice husk ash and perlite.

A total of 192 one-day-old Ross 308 broilers (initial body weight: 31.30±0.41 g) were used in this experiment for 28 days. Treatments were as follows: basal rice husk (CON), rice husk + 1% illite (T1), rice husk + 1% zeolite (T2), and rice husk + 0.5% illite + 0.5% zeolite (T3). The percentage of illite and zeolite was calculated on a weight of litter. Each treatment had four replicates, with 12 birds per pen. Each pen was provided with 5 kg of rice husk as litter. Litter moisture content was significantly decreased (P<0.05) in the T1, T2, and T3 groups compared to CON group at week 4. In litter nitrogen, the T1 group showed significantly lower (P<0.05) litter nitrogen content than the other groups at weeks 1, 2, and 3. Also, the T3 group showed a significantly lower (P<0.05) litter nitrogen content than the CON and T2 groups at weeks 2 and 3. The counts of E. coli in the litter were significantly decreased (P<0.05) in the T1 group compared to the CON group at weeks 2 and 3. Moreover, the counts of Salmonella in the litter were significantly decreased (P<0.05) in the T1 group compared to the CON group at week 4. The FPD score significantly decreased (P<0.05) in the T1 group compared to the CON group. In conclusion, spraying illite could be an ideal way to improve litter quality and decrease FPD in broilers.
As the interest in sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture continues to grow, there is a corresponding increase in organic fertilizers utilization. However, studies on ammonia (NH3) emissions, which are primarily generated in the agricultural sector, by organic fertilizers are lacking. Additionally, the reliance on imported ingredients in the production of organic fertilizers hinders the widespread adoption of organic fertilizers. This study aims to evaluate NH3 volatilization by incorporating rice husk biochar into organic fertilizers. The study also aims to assess whether domestically produced rice husk biochar can serve as a viable substitute for imported ingredients. Here, the dynamic chamber method was used under controlled conditions. Results show that inorganic fertilizers readily undergo hydrolysis, thereby rapidly generating significant amounts of NH3, particularly in the initial stages. In contrast, organic fertilizers decompose gradually, leading to relatively long-term NH3 emissions. The incorporation of rice husk biochar into organic fertilizers demonstrated diminished daily NH3 emissions compared to those from commercial organic fertilizers, resulting in decreased total NH3 volatilization. These findings show that the combination of rice husk biochar can reduce NH3 volatilization and serve as an alternative to imported ingredients for organic fertilizers. The results of this study can be utilized as fundamental information for the assessment of biochar as a potential ingredient for organic fertilizers.
This study was performed to determine the effect of psyllium husk addition on the physical properties of rice extrudates. Rice-based formulations mixed with psyllium husk (0, 7, 14 and 21%) were extruded at a die temperature of 140℃, screw speed of 200 rpm, and moisture content of 20%. As the content of psyllium husk increased, expansion ratio decreased, while piece density and specific length increased. Apparent elastic modulus, breaking strength, adhesiveness, and hardness augmented with an elevation in psyllium husk content. Lightness declined as psyllium husk content furthered, while redness, yellowness, and color difference intensified. Water soluble index and water absorption index increased with an increased amount of psyllium husk. In conclusion, the addition of psyllium affected the expansion of extruded rice snack possessing hard texture, small cells, and sticky texture due to higher water absorption during hydration.

A laboratory study was conducted to investigate the immobilization of the laboratory waste sludge, mainly from chemical oxygen demand (COD) waste, using cementitious binders. The binders were: Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), and lime-Rice Husk Ash(RHA) cement. The economic evaluation was done for three different kinds of cementitious binders, namely, OPC, Portalnd Rice Husk Ash Cement (PRHAC) which contained rice husk ash 50 percent by dry weight, and lime-RHA cement. The result showed that lime-RHA cement was the cheapest. The applicability of Freundlich's desorption isotherm was studied to assess the teachability of sludges. The teachability of cement mortars was found to follow the desorption isotherms. Therefore, it was concluded that based on this test, the leachate concentrations of the solidified heavy metals could be predicted, approximately by the Freundlich's isotherm desorption modeling.
This paper presents a mathematical model for strength and porosity of mortars made with ternary blends of ordinary Portland cement (OPC), ground rice husk ash (RHA) and classified fly ash (FA). The mortar mixtures were made with Portland cement Type I containing 0-40% FA and RHA. FA and RHA with 1-3% by weight retained on a sieve No. 325 were used. Compressive strength and porosity of the blended cement mortar at the age of 7, 28 and 90 days were determined. The use of ternary blended cements of RHA and FA produced mixes with good strength and low porosity of mortar. A mathematical analysis and two-parameter polynomial model were presented for the strength and porosity estimation with FA and RHA contents as parameters. The computer graphics of strength and porosity of the ternary blend were also constructed to aid the understanding and the proportioning of the blended system.
Using rice husk ash as silica, the influence of the firing temperature and holding time on the color intensity of Pr-$ZrSiO_4$ pigments were investigated. The Pr-yellow pigments were calcined at 500, 700, 800, 900, 950, 1000, $1100^{\circ}C$ in a ceramic method. The synthesized pigments were characterized by DT-TG thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and SEMEDAX analysis. The relationship between the zircon phase-formation growth and Pr-yellow color development was evaluated and the optimum firing conditions were determined. The color of the pigment samples was characterized on the grounds of the Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) standard procedure (CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ measurement) after an application on the bisque ceramic tile.
