The importance of utilizing an effective reward program has been emphasized as a tool for promotional strategies to acquire and retain customers. When consumers participate in a reward frequency program, they tend to focus more on points or mileage than the actual reward itself. This phenomenon is what Hsee, Yu, Zhang, and Zhang (2003) called "medium maximization." In this article, we hypopthesize that the medium effect may disappear when there is a close relationship between the product and the reward as it evokes the correlation of the two directly. The results of the current research show that the medium effect disappears in a strong relation condition while it does exist in a weak relation condition. Furthermore, we found that these results cannot be explained under an alternative "evaluability hypothesis" as Hsee, Loewenstein, Blount, and Bazerman (1999) and Hsee (1996) claimed. Even when we provided price range information as well as medium information, the medium effect still occurred. In this article, we explored boundary conditions for the medium effect and demonstrated the moderating effect of the relationship between products and rewards. Practical implications of the findings were also discussed for designing separate reward programs.

Recent studies have focused on human empathic behavior regarding to physical, cognitive, and emotional aspects. Especially empathy is considered as a multidisciplinary study because of its wide application. However, majority of the studies have been focusing on empathy induced by negative emotion and physical pain. As a result, the purpose of this study, based on Loggia et al. (2008), is to investigate if empathy could be induced by positive events, and consequently if the positive empathy could increase subjective value of reward. According to the result of experiment which involved eight participants, we could confirm the inducement of empathy by positive events significantly; its power is not so strong though. However there was no interaction between empathy type (positive and no empathy) and whether the target received the reward or not. But if we would recruit more participants and additionally analyze correlation among trait/empathic state questionnaire, subjective ratings of the reward and emotion of the target, we suggest that this study would be valuable in that it could expand the empathy studies.
Objectives : The aim of this study was to examined the mediating role of empowerment in relations to job and organizational factors, and job satisfaction and organizational commitment in hospital organizations. Methods : Job variety, clarity, significance, and fitness were examined as the job factors, and security, reward justice, and organizational support as the organizational factors. Data were collected from 8 national university hospitals with 1,289 data points used for the final analysis. Results : All the job factors were found to positively influence empowerment, as were all the organizational factors, with the exception of reward justice . As hypothesized, empowerment had significant effects on both job satisfaction and organizational commitment, and was the most influential variable of all those examined. Conclusions : In the relations to job satisfaction, empowerment completely mediated job significance, security and organizational support, and partially mediated all other variables, with the exception of reward justice. In the relations to organizational commitment, empowerment completely mediated job variety and job fitness, and partially mediated all other variables, with the exception of reward justice. The theoretical and practical implications of these results have been discussed.
This study discusses a contract to promote collection and recycling of used products in a green supply chain (GSC). A collection incentive contract is combined with a reward-penalty contract. The collection incentive contract for used products is made between a retailer and a manufacturer. The reward-penalty contract for recycling used products is made between a manufacturer and an external institution. A retailer pays an incentive for collecting used products from customers and delivers them to a manufacturer with a product order quantity under uncertainty in product demand. A manufacturer remanufactures products using recyclable parts with acceptable quality levels and covers a part of the retailer's incentive from the recycled parts by sharing the reward from an external institution. Product demand information is assumed as (i) the distribution is known (ii) mean and variance are known. Besides, the optimal decisions for product quantity, collection incentive of used products and lower limit of quality level for recyclable parts under decentralized integrated GSCs. The analysis numerically investigates how (1) contract for recycling activity, (ii) product demand information and (iii) quality of recyclable parts affect the optimal operation for each GSC. Supply chain coordination to shift IGSC is discussed by adopting Nash Bargaining solution.

This study proposed the model of research describing the positive impact of fitness between career orientations and reward systems on the performance of R&D professionals. To prove the propositions of the model, a questionnaire survey was conducted 204 professionals in 19 R&D research institutes related with electronics and communication industries provided answers for the questionnaire. The results of the survey were summarized in the following. 1) Career orientations of R&D professionals can be categorized into three dimensions : managerial, technical/professional, and project orientation. 2) The rewards consist of four dimensions : financial, social status, job content, and professional reward. 3) The age and tenure of R&D professionals has the negative impact on the project orientation. 4) The education level of R&D professionals has the positive impact on the professional orientation. 5) The sex was found as insignificant variable career orientation. 6) The person with strong prefers social status rewards to other rewards, the professional orientation is prefer to professional rewards, and the project orientation is prefer to job content rewards. 7) For the professionals with professional and project orientation, the congruence with each reward delivered positive impact on job satisfaction, job involvement, and organizational commitment. However it created negative impact on turnover intention and job stress.
This paper focuses on the rewards, one of the elements(goal, competition, and reward) of gamification, and investigate the actual cases of its application to real variety shows. In this paper, I analyzed <2 Days and 1 Night> which offers trivial(general) rewards, and which offers special(unusual) rewards, and which offers "vernacular" rewards. Unlike specific rewards, abstract ones were estimated to bring about weak gamification effects. In Youn's Kitchen, however, the cast members felt that they received individual and subjective rewards despite its invisible rewards. And the show even reinforced the complete nature of its narrative structure. These results shows that real variety shows can have new and diverse reward structure.
The purpose of the study is to investigate how customer reward programs that are provided strategically to develop customer favors are assessed by customers, if they affect customer loyalty and what effect using membership card(how many possess and use it) takes. The findings from the study can be summarized as follows. Firstly, customer loyalty showed high when shared value and convenient value are felt for preference and referring effect and when shared value and allied value were felt for revisit. Secondly, when the number of cards in possession was a lot, high customer loyalty existed. Thirdly, when the number of cards in use was a lot, the customer loyalty was high. The customer's awareness of values, e.g. economic, shared, use, convenience and allied values, put a very meaningful positive effect on loyalty, i.e. preference, referring effect and revisit. The more the number of food service provider's' membership cards in use and in possession was, the higher customer loyalty was. This implies that continued development of business partners and quality control are critical for various benefits and shared value of the customer reward pro-grams and service upgrade.

The purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting the sharing of research data of science and technology researchers. Data was collected through a survey of 198 science and technology researchers. Independent variables in this study included perception, openness in communication, collaboration, and trust. Latent variable was selected as reward system and dependent variable was research data sharing. The results of analysis of structural equation modeling showed that perception were found to have a positive impact on reward system for data sharing for research. Other factors such as trust, openness in communication and collaboration were not statistically significant in their affect on reward system for data sharing. Finally, reward system was identified as the influential factor on research data sharing.
This study focuses on the beginning of transition to parenthood expectation and applies the exchange theory in order to examine reward and cost of transition to parenthood expectation and picks up the main cause effecting it. This study conducted structured questionnaires to total 330 first pregnant women and examined descriptive statistics and t-test F-test analysis by using collected data. And here are the result of research. First the transition to parenthood expectation expected rewards much more than costs and had much importance on individual aspects in parenthood. The more were they aged hardly educated and housewives the higher did they showed expectation of reward. The less did they have high education the more did they expect costs of the transition to parenthood expectation. Second to examined the reward/cost of transition to parenthood expectation according to martial satisfaction the more did they have martial satisfaction the more did they expectation of the rewa ds on transition to parenthood expectation. On the contrary the more did they respect from husbands the less did they cost of transition to parenthood expectation. This study would be helpful to lead family life having childbirth to the positive way be examining the process from childbirth plan to delivery. Also it will be applicable to seek for the methods to help would-be parents as basic data on material on education about transition to parenthood.

In this paper, we present a Petri Net (PN) model for reliability analysis of a shared database system. The system consists of components; a database, two processors, two memory and a bus. The database should be operational and at least one of the component should be also operational. Otherwise system will be down. Each component can be failed and repaired individually. Stochastic Reward Net (SRN) Model for reliability analysis is developed. SRN is potential to define various reward function and can be easily used to obtain performance measures. The modeling techniques using variable cardinality, enabling function, timed transition priority in SRN are shown.
