  • The SEM approach to PKl offers several advantages, such as immediate revocation of users' signing ability without CRLs and compatibility with the standard RSA. However, it has a weakness against denial of service attack caused by breaking down or being compromised. G. Vanrenen et al. proposed a distributed SEM approach to overcome the weaknesses. However, it does not provide the desirable properties such as instant availability and immunity against denial of service attack, due to inadequate usage of threshold cryptography and proactive secret sharing. In this paper, we point out its structural contradictions and propose a modified version of distributed SEM approach.

  • A Certificate Revocation List(CRL) should be distributed quickly to all the vehicles for vehicular communications to protect them from malicious users and malfunctioning equipment as well as to increase the overall security and safety of vehicular networks. Thus, a major challenge in vehicular networks is how to efficiently distribute CRLs. This paper proposes a Multimedia Object Transfer(MOT) protocol based on CRL distribution scheme over T-DMB infrastructure. To complete the proposed scheme, a handoff method, CRL encoding rules based on the MOT protocol, and relative comparison are presented. The scheme can broaden breadth of network coverage and can get real-time delivery with enhanced transmission reliability. Even if road side units are sparsely deployed or, even not deployed, vehicles can obtain recent CRLs from T-DMB infrastructure effectively.

  • Distributing a Certificate Revocation List (CRL) quickly to all vehicles in the system requires a very large number of road side units (RSUs) to be deployed. In reality, initial deployment stage of vehicle networks would be characterized by limited infrastructure as a result in very limited vehicle to infrastructure communication. However, every vehicle wants the most recent CRLs to protect itself from malicious users and malfunctioning equipments, as well as to increase the overall security of the vehicle networks. To address this challenge, we design and implement a nomadic device based CRL acquisition method using nomadic device's communication capability with cellular networks. When a vehicle could not directly communicate with nearby RSUs, the nomadic device acts as a security mediator to perform vehicle's security functions continuously through cellular networks. Therefore, even if RSUs are not deployed or sparsely deployed, vehicle's security threats could be minimized by receiving the most recent CRLs in a reasonable time.

인증서 상태 검증을 위해 기존의 CRL(Certificate Revocation List), Delta CRL, Freshest CRL과 실시간 인증서상태 검증을 위하여 OCSP(Online Certificate Status Protocol)의 표준이 제안된 바 있다.

  • Certification revocation list(CRL) is needed for excluding compromised, faulty, illegitimate vehicle nodes and preventing the use of compromised cryptographic materials in vehicular communications. It should be distributed to vehicles resource-efficiently and CRL computational load of vehicles should not impact on life-critical applications with delay sensitive nature such as the pre-crash sensing that affords under 50msec latency. However, in the existing scheme, when a vehicle receives CRL, the vehicle calculates linkage values from linkage seeds, which results in heavy computational load. This paper proposes, a new CRL distribution scheme is proposed, which minimizes the time for CRL processing of vehicles. In the proposed scheme, the linkage value calculation procedure is performed by road-side unit(RSU) instead of the vehicle, and then the extracted linkage values are relayed to the vehicle transparently. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme reduces the CRL computational load dramatically, which would minimize impact on life-critical applications' operations with low latency.

  • Two important requirements in broadcast encryption schemes are traitor traceability and revocability. In this paper, we propose a new type of a traitor tracing scheme that can revoke an unlimited number of traitors\` personal keys. Additionally, we propose an efficient and simple method to provide self-enforcement property. We also describe a variant of our scheme of which encryption algorithm is secure against adaptive chosen ciphertext attacks.

  • WAVE(Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments) system is wireless communication technology that vehicle sends and receives packets between vehicles or between vehicles and infrastructure in a high-speed mobile environment. In this study, we have designed and implemented a CRL(Certificate Revocation List) download protocol that is used to verify certificate revocation status of the other party when the vehicles communicate with WAVE system. This protocol operates over UDP. And to support security features, also, ECDSA(Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm) is used for mutual authentication and ECIES(Elliptic Curve Integrated Encryption Scheme) is used to ensure the confidentiality. Moreover, this protocol ensures the integrity of data by adding MAC(Message Authentication Code) to the end of packet and support the error and flow control mechanisms.

  • Regional CRL(certificate revocation list) in vehicular communications is to partition Full CRL into several small CRLs according to geographic location to keep the size of individual CRLs with smaller. However, since a Regional CRL includes vehicle's revoked certificates within its administrative region, it has to know vehicle' location. For this, how to know vehicle' location effectively corresponding to every region represents a major challenge. This paper proposes a Regional CRL scheme which is envisioned to achieve vehicle's location and to make regional CRLs according to vehicles current location efficiently. The scheme is based on the short-lived pseudonyms defined by WAVE standard. It also acquires issued pseudonyms, vehicle's id and region information whenever a vehicle initiates pseudonyms refill after that, utilizes them to create and distribute the Regional CRL. To keep location privacy-preserving for vehicles, the scheme uses the blockchain technology in the network. The analysis results show that it reduces CRL size and database query time for finding revoked certificates sharply in the vehicle's on-board unit.

  • In the self-healing group key distribution scheme, users are capable of recovering lost group keys on their own without requesting additional transmission from the group manager, where there is no reliable network infrastructure. In this paper, we propose a new self-healing group key distribution scheme with revocation capability, which is optimal in terms of user memory storage and more efficient in terms of communication complexity than the previous results. We obtain a slightly improved result from (13) and (14) by using the new broadcasting method. In addition, we prove that our scheme has the properties of t-wise forward secrecy and t-wise backward secrecy, and extend this self-healing approach to the session key recovery scheme from a single broadcast message.
