  • Margin inclusion or exclusion remains the most critical and controversial aspect of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for metastatic brain tumors. This review aimed to examine the available literature on the impact of margins in SRS of brain metastasis and to assess the response of some medical physicists on the use of these margins. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses method was used to review articles published in PubMed, Embase, and Science Direct databases from January 2012 to December 2022 using the following keywords: planning target volume, brain metastasis, margin, and stereotactic radiosurgery. A simple survey consisting of five questions was completed by ten medical physicists with experience in SRS treatment planning. The results were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 26.0. Of the 1,445 articles identified, only 38 articles were chosen. Of these, eight papers were deemed relevant to the focus of this review. These papers showed an increase in the risk of radionecrosis, whereas differences in local control were variable as the margin increased. In the survey, the response rate to whether or not to use margins in SRS, a critical question, was 50%. Margin addition increases the risk of radio necrosis. The local control rate varies among treatment modalities and cannot be generalized. From the survey, no consensus was reached regarding the use of these margins. This calls for further deliberations among professionals directly involved in SRS.

  • Purpose: Due to the stringency of regulations related to clinical research, researchers face various requirements in the Institutional Review Board (IRB) review process. Specifically, they encounter time constraints and administrative burdens. In order to cultivate a more favorable review culture and establish a robust research environment, it is necessary to analyze researchers' perceptions of the IRB review. Therefore, this study aims to assess researchers' overall experiences with the IRB and identify researchers' educational needs and demands for research-related policies. Methods: A semistructured questionnaire with 34 items was developed and refined in consultation with advisors from IRB and Human Research Protection Program (HRPP). The questionnaire was distributed via an online survey to researchers with experience in IRB review. The survey covered general characteristics, satisfaction with the IRB review process (rated on a 10-point scale), experiences with IRB review, HRPP policy demands. Results: The study's descriptive statistics revealed a moderate satisfaction level (average rating, 6.75 out of 10) with the IRB review. Researchers from clinical medicine and other disciplines showed similar satisfaction scores of 6.65 and 6.87, respectively. However, respondents with over 5 years of research experience expressed higher satisfaction (mean score, 7.03) compared to those with less experience (mean score, 6.57). Institutional support was emphasized for improving the IRB review process. Certain training topics generated higher demands for addressing frequently raised IRB issues among minor discipline researchers compared to clinical medicine (p=0.017). Conclusion: We conducted an analysis of researchers' perceptions regarding the IRB as well as their demands concerning educational and HRPP policies. It is imperative to address the pinpointed areas for enhancement and integrate a range of perspectives in order to effectively cultivate a robust research ethics culture and ensure comprehensive participant protection.

  • The increasing use of various types of data to capture travel behavior relatively discredits the utility of traditional national-scale household travel surveys. However, the surveys are still arguably meaningful in their clarification of purposes and means of travel. Accordingly, this study reviews travel survey cases and related literature, to identify the status of the Korean National Household Travel Survey (KNHTS). It discusses improving the KNHTS's survey method, focusing on its long investigation cycle, short survey period, reduction in sample size, and questionnaire format biased toward mandatory travel. To address these issues, this study suggests reducing the survey cycle, conducting a year-round survey, combining weekday and weekend surveys, and specifying items on nonmandatory travel. These practical suggestions duly consider the validity and reliability of the KNHTS within budget constraints and its applicability to related fields, such as tourism, public health, and sociology.

  • As the construction industry has recently transitioned to smart construction, the importance of project management using Building Information Modeling(BIM) is increasing. BIM and Construction Management(CM) share integrated management of various information that may arise in a project, allowing BIM to be utilized in various ways in CM. In this study, an Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) survey was conducted targeting BIM users at CM companies. The items of the AHP survey were divided into company-level factors and project-stage factors of BIM to measure utilization. This study analyzes the importance of BIM utilization factors used by CM companies through an AHP survey of BIM users and identifies the current status of the most utilized BIM. As a result of the AHP survey of company-level factors, the BIM application project showed the highest importance for BIM activation in CM. Furthermore, as a result of the AHP survey of factors by project stage, constructability review, interference review, and design change management showed the highest importance in that order. This implies that for BIM to be activated, CM companies need to increase the number of BIM-applied projects. Additionally, besides the factors most commonly used in current practice, there is a need to examine whether there are fewer factors utilizing BIM in a variety of applications. This study is expected to contribute to the activation and introduction of BIM in future construction project management.

  • Mobile voting has been considered as a promising technology, but it has not been used widely or popular enough in the world. We think this situation is caused by immature technologies of mobile voting and no agreement among people in our society. In this paper, we reviewed literature on electronic voting systems in order to find out technical issues on mobile voting system, and we also surveyed people's opinions via the Internet in order to understand what they worry about mobile voting. From the literature review, we understand that the existing electronic voting systems did not consider security, robustness, and reliability issues enough. From the survey, we also get to know that people worry about "manipulation of the result of mobile voting" mostly. Our work can help researchers on mobile voting to consider the ways or technologies that convince people of the reliability of mobile voting.
