In this study, It is developed a retrofitting procedure of RC column with rectangular section to archive the target displacement at failure. Nonlinear behavior of the column is considered as the equivalent linear system. First, target displacement is determined, and then elastic displacement spectrum is constructed to estimate the equivalent natural vibration period of the SDOF system. After natural vibration period is determined, required strength is calculated using secant stiffness based on the mass of system. In accordance with, obtained force-displacement relationship through non-linear fiber based section analysis, retrofit design was carried out to meet required strength. As a result, retrofitted RC column can confirm that the improved seismic performance. It is observed that the proposed design procedure can be applicable to seismic retrofitting design of columns.
This paper presents the finite element method results for HSS(Hollow Square Section) steel columns strengthened with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer Plastic(CFRP) sheets. 6 specimens were fabricated and the specimen groups were non-compact short columns, slender short columns, and non-compact long columns. Test parameter was the number of CFRP ply. The finite element analysis was performed by using ANSYS Workbench V.14.0 and the results of FEM were compared with those of Test for failure mode, load-displacement curve, maximum load, and initial stiffness. The comparisons between experimental observations and computed results show that the analyses provided good correlation to actual behavior. Finally, the buckling stress were calculated according to the AISC cold-formed structure provision and the retrofitting effect were verified for each section type.
School is a place to be done the education of Disaster Prevention and to be established the function of Disaster Prevention and seismic performance to secure the safety of children as well as emergency evacuation facilities for local communities in case of disaster. To improve the ability of Earthquake Disaster Prevention for students and teachers schools have to put the Earthquake Disaster Prevention on the subjects, for an example ethics, social study, science and gym and make a plan to efficiently manage school disaster prevention facilities. Seismic retrofitting on school facilities have to be established with the method of construction for steel bracings and seismic shear walls choosing old architectures first which is not the design with the seismic performance considering educational environmental aspects, and reconstruction of old architectures to get the agreement of societies. Furthermore, there is great demand for the effective, efficient and systematic improvement of school facilities for the use of shelters to be disaster prevention facilities.

Over the past few years, as maritime trade and traffic were highly expanding, problem of invasive species via ballast water have been raised. In 1988, Canada and Australia had firstly experience that unexpected and hazardous species were observed on their own sea, they have issued the problem to MEPC under the IMO. At the end of many years of discussion, on the diplomatic conference in 13 Feb. 2004, "International Convention for the Control and Management of Ballast Water and Sediments of the Ship" was adopted. Requirements for entering into force of this Convention is that 30 countries ratify and world merchant marine fleet is more than 35% and BWM Convention will be effected after 12months from date satisfying conditions. With Finland ratifying the BWM Convention on 8 Sep. 2016, the fleet amounted to 35.1441% and ratification country became 52 countries. Therefore, after 12month, BWM Convention will be formally effected on 8 Sep. 2017. Ballast Water Treatment System is to be fitted in new ships as well as existing ships. Thus, there are concerns of ship owners to be suitably installed a variety typed BWTS in many kinds of vessels. As approaching for resolving these problems, engineering analysis was carried out research studies and detailed design to analyze to optimal installation space for retrofitting a BWTS using 3D Scanning method, targeting representative DWT 180K Bulk carrier of dry cargo vessels charged more 40% on worldwide vessel and mainly two type BWTS as electrolysis treatment type and ultra violet treatment type. Optimal design of 3D Scanning technology was applied to analyze four step process and the overall conclusion was described in this paper.

An experimental study is needed a reinforcing method for seismic load to apply for RC structures because a lot of earthquakes have frequently happened in the world and those also collapsed infrastructures or damaged human lives. The reinforcing effect of PolyUrea (PU) appeared to be excellent under blast and impact about RC structures. In this study, Stiff Type PolyUrea (STPU) had developed by manipulating the ratio of the components of prepolymer and hardener of PU. And the durability performance evaluation of STPU for deterioration and chemical resistance has been performed. Acid environmental exposure test and ultraviolet (UV) exposure test have been performed as the durability performance evaluation for STPU. Concrete carbonation exposure test and freezing and thawing test for concrete coated with STPU have been performed. The experimental result showed that STPU has high resisting capacity and durability in all tests. Therefore, STPU would be used as seismic reinforcement materials.

In past years, numerous problems have vexed engineers with regard to buckling, corrosion, bending, and overloading in damaged steel structures. This article sets out to investigate the possible effects of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) and steel plates for retrofitting deficient steel square hollow section (SHS) columns. The effects of axial loading, stiffness, axial displacement, the position and shape of deficient region on the length of steel SHS columns, and slenderness ratio are examined through a detailed parametric study. A total of 14 specimens was tested for failure under axial compression in a laboratory and simulated using finite element (FE) analysis based on a numerical approach. The results indicate that the application of CFRP sheets and steel plates also caused a reduction in stress in the damaged region and prevented or retarded local deformation around the deficiency. The findings showed that a deficiency leads to reduced load-carrying capacity of steel SHS columns and the retrofitting method is responsible for the increase in the load-bearing capacity of the steel columns. Finally, this research showed that the CFRP performed better than steel plates in compensating the axial force caused by the cross-section reduction due to the problems associated with the use of steel plates, such as in welding, increased weight, thermal stress around the welding location, and the possibility of creating another deficiency by welding.

Civil structures should be designed with the lowest cost and longest lifetime possible and without service failure. The efficient and sustainable use of materials in building design and construction has always been at the forefront for civil engineers and environmentalists. Timber is one of the best contenders for these purposes particularly in terms of aesthetics; fire protection; strength-to-weight ratio; acoustic properties and seismic resistance. In recent years, timber has been used in commercial and taller buildings due to these significant advantages. It should be noted that, since the launch of the modern building standards and codes, a number of different structural systems have been developed to stabilise steel or concrete multistorey buildings, however, structural analysis of high-rise and multi-storey timber frame buildings subjected to lateral loads has not yet been fully understood. Additionally, timber degradation can occur as a result of biological decay of the elements and overloading that can result in structural damage. In such structures, the deficient members and joints require strengthening in order to satisfy new code requirements; determine acceptable level of safety; and avoid brittle failure following earthquake actions. This paper investigates performance assessment and damage assessment of older multi-storey timber buildings. One approach is to retrofit the beams in order to increase the ductility of the frame. Experimental studies indicate that Sprayed Fibre Reinforced Polymer (SFRP) repairing/retrofitting not only updates the integrity of the joint, but also increases its strength; stiffness; and ductility in such a way that the joint remains elastic. Non-linear finite element analysis ('pushover') is carried out to study the behaviour of the structure subjected to simulated gravity and lateral loads. A new global index is re-assessed for damage assessment of the plain and SFRP-retrofitted frames using capacity curves obtained from pushover analysis. This study shows that the proposed method is suitable for structural damage assessment of aged timber buildings. Also SFRP retrofitting can potentially improve the performance and load carrying capacity of the structure.

In this paper, weakly bonded ultra-high-strength steel bars (UHSS) were used as longitudinal reinforcement in recycled aggregate concrete shear walls to achieve resilient performance. The study evaluated the repairability and hysteresis performance of shear walls before and after retrofitting. Quasi-static tests were performed on recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) and steel fiber reinforced recycled aggregate concrete (FRAC) shear walls to investigate the reparability of resilient shear walls when loaded to 1% drift ratio. Results showed that shear walls exhibited drift-hardening properties. The maximum residual drift ratio and residual crack width at 1% drift ratio were 0.107% and 0.01mm, respectively, which were within the repairable limits. Subsequently, shear walls were retrofitted with bonded X-shaped CFRP strips and steel plates wrapped at the bottom and retested. Except for a slight reduction in initial stiffness, earthquake-damaged resilient shear walls retrofitted with a composite method still had satisfactory hysteresis performance. A revised damage assessment index D, has been proposed to assess of damage degree. Moreover, finite-element analysis for the shear wall before and after retrofit retrofitting was established in OpenSees and verified with experimental results. The finite element results and test results were in good agreement. Finally, parametric analysis was performed.

Earthquake resistance design has been developed many countries like Japan, USA, Mexico, New Zealand etc., which countries have experienced many earthquakes. Nowadays, earthquake resistance design has come into worldwide use. In Korea, the seismic design regulations have been established since 1988 in order to minimize the economic losses. Recently performance based design method has been adopted as a new Earthquake resistance design method. These regulations, however, are targeted for newly constructed buildings, In Korea, there are no regulations for existing buildings that built before 1988. So, we need to prepare the regulations that evaluate the seismic performance, furthermore proper retrofitting design guideline needs to be proposed when remodeling old buildings. This study was performed that many existing apartments is being a Remodeling object when considering the present condition of existing apartment and the problems of cost and environment in the future plan. When Remodeling construction is reviewed by former the Seismic Performance Evaluation Method, generating problems is evaluation by using Push-over. According to this, it provides the appropriate method of calculating the Seismic Ship Performance Index.

This study is to examine the feasibility of carbon fiber sheet(CFS), a kind of fiber reinforced plastic(FRP), for a repair and reinforcement of R/C beams. The flexural strength of R/C beams, that were preloaded and then the cracks were repaired, maintains that of the uncracked R/C beams. The flexural strength of R/C beams increases with the reinforcement of CFS. In order to practically apply the repair and reinforcement method, further research is needed for the distribution, amount, and bond of CFS. In this study, an experiment was conducted for R/C beams reinforced with CFS, for various wrapping method and amounts of CFS. Experimental results showed the wrapping method increasing the bond area and amount of CFS layer caused the increase in the strength of the beams. It is found that the strength of CFS should be used as 70% of the maximum strength in retrofitting reinforced concrete beams in evaluating flexural capacity on the basis of ultimate strength design method.
