Indexing and Retrieving images from large and varied collections using image content as a key is a challenging and important problem in computer vision application. In this paper, a color Content-based Image Retrieval (CBIR) system using hierarchical Region of Interest (ROI) query and indexing is presented. During indexing process, First, The ROIs on every image in the image database are extracted using a region-based image segmentation technique, The JSEG approach is selected to handle this problem in order to create color-texture regions. Then, Color features in form of histogram and correlogram are then extracted from each segmented regions. Finally, The features are stored in the database as the key to retrieve the relevant images. As in the retrieval system, users are allowed to select ROI directly over the sample or user's submission image and the query process then focuses on the content of the selected ROI in order to find those images containing similar regions from the database. The hierarchical region-of-interest query is performed to retrieve the similar images. Two-level search is exploited in this paper. In the first level, the most important regions, usually the large regions at the center of user's query, are used to retrieve images having similar regions using static search. This ensures that we can retrieve all the images having the most important regions. In the second level, all the remaining regions in user's query are used to search from all the retrieved images obtained from the first level. The experimental results using the indexing technique show good retrieval performance over a variety of image collections, also great reduction in the amount of searching time.
In this paper we propose an effective method to represent, store, and retrieve video streams efficiently from a video database. We extract features from each video frame, normalize the feature values, and represent them as values in the range [0,1]. In this way a video frame with f features can be represented by a point in the f-dimensional space $[0,1]^f$, and thus the video stream is represented by a trail of points in the multidimensional space. The video stream is partitioned into video segments based on camera shots, each of which is represented by a trend vector which encapsulates the moving trend of points in a segment. The video stream query is processed depending on the comparison of those trend vectors. We examine our method using a collection of video streams that are composed of sports, news, documentary, and educational videos. Experimental results show that our trend vector representation reduces a reconstruction error remarkably (average 37%) and the retrieval using a trend vector achieves the high precision (average 2.1 times) while maintaining the similar response time and recall rate as existing methods.

In this paper, we propose a method of retrieving opinioned tweets in Twitter, which is the one of the popular Social Network Services and shares diverse opinions among various users. In typical opinion retrieval systems, they may consider the presence of sentiment phrases (subjectivity) as the important factor even if the subjective phrases are not related to a given query or speaker. To alleviate these problems, we utilized the syntactic structure of a sentence to identify the relationships between 1) subjectivity-query and 2) subjectivity-speaker and 3) the syntactic role of subjectivity. Besides, our learning-to-rank approach is trained to retrieve opinioned tweets based on query-relevance, textual features, user information, and Twitter-specific features. Experimental results on real world data show that our proposed method can achieve better performance than several baseline methods in terms of precision and nDCG.
In this Paper, we propose a content-based music information retrieval (MIR) system base on the query-by-example (QBE) method. The proposed system is implemented to retrieve queried music from a dataset where 60 music samples were collected for each of the four genres in Classical, Hiphop. Jazz. and Reck. resulting in 240 music files in database. From each query music signal, the system extracts 60 dimensional feature vectors including spectral centroid. rolloff. flux base on STFT and also the LPC. MFCC and Beat information. and retrieves queried music from a trained database set using Euclidean distance measure. In order to choose optimum features from the 60 dimension feature vectors, SFS method is applied to draw 10 dimension optimum features and these are used for the Proposed system. From the experimental result. we can verify the superior performance of the proposed system that provides success rate of 84% in Hit Rate and 0.63 in MRR which means near 10% improvements over the previous methods. Additional experiments regarding system Performance to random query Patterns (or portions) and query lengths have been investigated and a serious instability problem of system Performance is Pointed out.
Recently, studies of image analysis, as the preprocessing stage for medical image analysis or image retrieval, are actively carried out. This paper intends to propose a way of utilizing color components for image retrieval. For image retrieval, it is based on color components, and for analysis of color, CLCM (Color Level Co-occurrence Matrix) and statistical techniques are used. CLCM proposed in this paper is to project color components on 3D space through geometric rotate transform and then, to interpret distribution that is made from the spatial relationship. CLCM is 2D histogram that is made in color model, which is created through geometric rotate transform of a color model. In order to analyze it, a statistical technique is used. Like CLCM, GLCM (Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix)[1] and Invariant Moment [2,3] use 2D distribution chart, which use basic statistical techniques in order to interpret 2D data. However, even though GLCM and Invariant Moment are optimized in each domain, it is impossible to perfectly interpret irregular data available on the spatial coordinates. That is, GLCM and Invariant Moment use only the basic statistical techniques so reliability of the extracted features is low. In order to interpret the spatial relationship and weight of data, this study has used Principal Component Analysis [4,5] that is used in multivariate statistics. In order to increase accuracy of data, it has proposed a way to project color components on 3D space, to rotate it and then, to extract features of data from all angles.

Content-based image retrieval systems are being actively investigated owing to their ability to retrieve images based on the actual visual content rather than by manually associated textual descriptions. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for image retrieval based on edge structural features using edge correlogram and color coherence vector. After color vector angle is applied in the pre-processing stage, an image is divided into two image parts (high frequency image and low frequency image). In low frequency image, the global color distribution of smooth pixels is extracted by color coherence vector, thereby incorporating spatial information into the proposed color descriptor. Meanwhile, in high frequency image, the distribution of the gray pairs at an edge is extracted by edge correlogram. Since the proposed algorithm includes the spatial and edge information between colors, it can robustly reduce the effect of the significant change in appearance and shape in image analysis. The proposed method provides a simple and flexible description for the image with complex scene in terms of structural features of the image contents. Experimental evidence suggests that our algorithm outperforms the recently histogram refinement methods for image indexing and retrieval. To index the multidimensional feature vectors, we use R*-tree structure.
An emotion-based video scene retrieval algorithm is proposed in this paper. First, abrupt/gradual shot boundaries are detected in the video clip representing a specific story Then, five video features such as 'average color histogram' 'average brightness', 'average edge histogram', 'average shot duration', and 'gradual change rate' are extracted from each of the videos and mapping between these features and the emotional space that user has in mind is achieved by an interactive genetic algorithm. Once the proposed algorithm has selected videos that contain the corresponding emotion from initial population of videos, feature vectors from the selected videos are regarded as chromosomes and a genetic crossover is applied over them. Next, new chromosomes after crossover and feature vectors in the database videos are compared based on the similarity function to obtain the most similar videos as solutions of the next generation. By iterating above procedures, new population of videos that user has in mind are retrieved. In order to show the validity of the proposed method, six example categories such as 'action', 'excitement', 'suspense', 'quietness', 'relaxation', 'happiness' are used as emotions for experiments. Over 300 commercial videos, retrieval results show 70% effectiveness in average.

Recently, it is important to process multimedia data efficiently. Especially, in case of retrieval of multimedia information, technique of user interface and retrieval technique are necessary. This paper proposes a new technique which detects cuts effectively in compressed image information by MPEG. A cut is a turning point of scenes. The cut-detection is the basic work and the first-step for video indexing and retrieval. Existing methods have a weak point that they detect wrong cuts according to change of a screen such as fast motion of an object, movement of a camera and a flash. Because they compare between previous frame and present frame. The proposed technique detects shots at first using DC(Direct Current) coefficient of DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform). The database is composed of these detected shots. Features are extracted by HMMD color model and edge histogram descriptor(EHD) among the MPEG-7 visual descriptors. And detections are performed in sequence by the proposed matching technique. Through this experiments, an improved video segmentation system is implemented that it performs more quickly and precisely than existing techniques have.

Efficient retrieval of image data is an important research issue in multimedia database. This paper proposes a new approach to a content-based image retrieval which allows queries to be composed of the local texture patterns and the slope components of contour points. The texture patterns extracted from the source image using the graylevel co-occurrence matrix and the slope components of contour points extracted from the binary image are converted into a internal feature representation of reduced dimensionality which preserves the perceptual similarity and those features can be used in creating efficient indexing structures for a content-based image retrieval. Experimental results of the image retrievalare presented to illustrate the usefulness of this approach that demonstrates the precision 82%, the recall 87% and the average rang 3.3 in content-based image data retrieval.

It will be possible to prevent the infringement of the trademarks and the insueing disputes regarding the originality of the trademarks by using an efficient content-based trademark image retrieval system. In this paper, we describe a content-based image retrieval system using the Self Organizing Map(SOM) algorithm. The SOM algorithm utilizes the visual features, which were derived from the gray histogram representation of the images. In addition, we made the objective effectiveness evaluation possible by coming up with a quantitative measure to gauge the effectiveness of the content-based image retrieval system.
