Patient with facial paralysis may develop opthalmic complications. Poor eyelid closure, ectopion and lagophthalmos place the patinet at increased risk for development of corneal problems such as epitheilail defects, stromal thinning, bacterial infection, and even perforation. Inilital treatment should be conservative and include the use of ocular lubricants and taping of the lower eyelid into the proper position. Surgical intervention may be required in patients who have failed medical therapy or in whom the facial paralysis is not expected to improve. Gold weight implantation in upper eyelid and lower lid tightening in lower eyelid has become a popular procedure to correct upper eyelid retraction and lower eyelid laxity and to improve corneal coverage. We describe technique for placement of a gold weight in the upper lid, with attention of the maintenance of symmetric eyelid crease and susture canthopexy to correct malpositioned lower eyelid.

This case report presents the orthodontic treatment of a 25-year-old patient with skeletal Class II and severe maxillary arch crowding, moderate mandibular arch crowding, anterior crossbite, and a missing lower incisor. He was treated with molar distalization using a modified C-palatal plate and temporary anchorage devices to create sufficient space for retraction. The total treatment duration was 21 months. After treatment, his occlusion and smile esthetics showed significant improvement. The modified C-palatal plate represents a treatment modality that enhances the prospects of non-extraction treatment and reduces the need for extraction.

The Panax ginseng Mayer is used in conventional medicine in Asia owing to its preventing effects on thrombosis, hypertension, atherosclerosis, vasorelaxation and myocardial infarction. Because platelets are crucial mediators of cardiovascular diseases, many studies have investigated its functions. The previous study showed the antiplatelet effects of crude ginseng fraction and two of its components, ginsenoside Rg3 (20S and 20R). In addition, ginsenoside Rg3-enriched fraction shows an inhibitory effect on collagen-activated rat platelets. However, the mechanism underlying this effect remains unclear. Thus, I investigated the inhibitory action of ginsenoside Rg3 (20S, G-Rg3) on the regulation of signaling molecules involved in ${\alpha}IIb/{\beta}_3$ activation. I found that G-Rg3, in a cyclic AMP dependent manner, inhibited thrombin-induced activation of human platelets and affinity of fibrinogen and fibronectin with ${\alpha}IIb/{\beta}_3$. Thus, in the present study, G-Rg3 showed an inhibitory effect on glycoprotein IIb/IIIa (${\alpha}IIb/{\beta}_3$) activation, suggesting its potential use for preventing platelet-mediated thrombotic disease.

The patient,20 year-old female, complained of anterior open bite. She had tongue thrusting habit and suffered from maxillary sinusitis since 12-years old. Cephalometric analysis revealed slightly forward relationship in maxilla, but normal in mandible. The anterior open bite was corrected through retraction and extrusion of anterior segment and mesial movement of posterior segment under multibanded system after extraction of 4-first premolars. After 2 years and 3 months, she gained ideal overbite, overjet and good interdigitation of buccal segment.

목적 : 본 연구는 경부의 후인과 회전 운동 범위에 있어 운동 감각 역치의 차이를 비교하기 위해 수행되었다. 방법 : 본 연구의 대상자는 19명(10명 남자, 9명 여자 나이 19~30세 평균 23.2, 표준편차 3.3)이 참가하였다. 이 연구에서 운동 감각 역치는 편안히 앉은 자세에서 시각 차단시와 시각 허용시에, constant stimuli의 방법을 사용하여 반복 측정되었으며, 움직임을 수행 하는 과정에서 정지 상태를 유도하여 그 정지동작에서 두 동작의 차이를 평가하였다. 결과 : 본 연구의 결과 후인 운동 감각이 오른쪽 또는 왼쪽 회전 운동 감각 보다 더 민감하게 나타났다. 결론 : 중간 범위의 두 움직임간의 차이를 비교할 때 시각차단 유무는 각 운동 감각에 영향을 미치지 않았다.

The auther experienced a case of difficult decannulation in a 52-day-old male infant, in which decannulation was performed at one and half years after tracheostomy. Tracheostomy was performed for the maintenance of airway due to severe dyspnea, cyanosis, retraction of suprasternal notch and epigastrium during the inspiration with acute laryngotracheobronchitis. The patient became gradually adjusted to the continual cannula corking training along with growing process over the period of 18 months.

A series of Thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers was prepared via a two-step polymerization process. The NCO/OH feed ratio of polyurethane synthesized in this study was varied from 1 to 1.3. Studies have been made on the effects of chemical and physical cross-linkina, and the properties of thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers based on isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI)/1,4-butanediol (BD)/poly(propylene glycol) (PPG, MW:2000), isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI)/BD /poly(oxytetramethylene) glycol (PTMG, MW:2000) was compared. These materials were characterized using FTIR spectrometer, dynamic mechanical thermal analyzer, and tensile retraction tester. PTMG based polyurethane elastomers showed higher elasomeric behavior than PPG based polyurethane elastomers at the same NCO/OH ratio. This feature has been connected with the specific nature of the polyols. The permanent set(%) was decreased with increasing maximum elongation from 50% to 300%.

The most effective treatment methods for a herniated lumbar disc remain questionable. This report follows the patients course, from the onset of pain through the completion of the non-surgical treatment, and shows that a lumbar herniated disc, with radiculopathy, can be successfully treated with a non-surgical approach. This report discusses the possible explanations for disc resorption: retraction into the intervertebral space, dehydration/shrinkage and resorption due to an inflammatory reaction. A non-surgical approach can be an effective treatment option for a herniated lumbar disc.

Chronic Achilles tendon rupture is likely to result in functional impairment in gait and sports activity. The presence of a large defect secondary to retraction of the tendon ends, atrophy of the calf muscles, and vulnerable vascularity of the soft tissue envelope make it a challenging problem to treat. Surgical reconstruction aims to restore the length and tension of the gastrocnemius-soleus complex. Various surgical treatment options have been described, depending on several factors, including residual gap size after scar tissue removal, remaining tissue quality, and vascularity. Despite good results being reported, there is a lack of high-level, evidence-based clinical guidelines available to select the first-line surgical procedure. This paper overviews the current available surgical options for patients with chronic Achilles tendon rupture.
