The primary purpose of this study is to construct a path model in which shows how the background variables, retirement-related variables, and perceptions of stress in retirement influence life satisfaction among retirees. Data from a probability sample of retirees who are not employed as a full - time (n of retirees=261)are used. The social stress model, developed by House (1974) and George (1980), presented and tested in this research focuses on the perspective of the retirees. The major findings are: 1. The retirees perceive relatively high levels of stress in retirement. 2. Levels of living standard, health status, and locus of control are significant factors in differentiating the degrees of perceived stress in retirement and life satisfaction. 3. Concerning the retirement variables, the previous job satisfaction, plans and preparatins for leisure activities and financial arrangement contribute to differentiate the degrees of perceived stress in retirement and life satisfaction. 4. While health status, locus of control, and the perceptions of stress in retirement influence directly on life satisfaction, age, education, income, and activity level influence indirectly through the retirement - related variables and the perceptions of stress in retirement on life satisfaction. This paper empirically estimates the decision of aged workers related to the retirement decision. Using the supplemental survey for aged people of the Korean panel data set, the paper analyses the correlation between the retirement decision of middle-aged people (aged 50 years or older) and personal characteristics and job characteristics of main jobs that aged people had worked, particularly focusing on the mandatory job retirement regulation and its regulation of retirement ages. The empirical results show that the regulated retirement age is more important than the existence of mandatory retirement system in related to the workers' retirement decision.

This paper attempts to analyze the early retirement in the OECD countries and discuss implication of that in the old age policy in Korea. The increase of the early retirement in the almost all OECD countries is a common fact. Especially the rate of early retirement rapidly increased in the 1980s, mostly reflecting the high rate of unemployment and states' policies to reduce it. However, it varies across countries: the unemployment compensation pathway in France, the mixture of social assistance and private insurance in England, VUT in Netherland, the privatization of the early retirement in the U. S., and partial retirement and labor market policy in Sweden. The early retirement in the advanced countries contributes to de-institutionalization and de-standardization in life course model. It resulted in the erosion of the ordinary conception that the retirement was the beginning of the old age. And the last phase of life course became blurred. With respect to the problem of the early retirement, there is a big difference between Korea and the OECD countries. Above all, the retirement age is 55 years in many companies and the public pension is not universalized in Korea. Accordingly the policy for income security of the old age in Korea should be connected with social security policy such as the gradual extension of the retirement age and the expansion of the public pension and labor market policy such as job training for the old age, transformation of the seniority wage system etc.
Objectives: This study was designed to determine the effects of middle-aged men's family functionality and self-efficacy on their retirement anxiety, in order to produce methods to alleviate this anxiety, including providing basic information for devising programs that help middle-aged men get better adjusted to and increase their awareness about retirement. Methods: For data collection, the study surveyed 364 middle-aged men who were residing in B Metropolitan City from February. 10 to 25, 2017. Results: This study found that the primary factor influencing middle-aged men's retirement anxiety is self-efficacy, for which the explanatory power for the surveyed men's retirement anxiety was 52.0%. In contrast, family functionality had no effect on retirement anxiety. Conclusions: To make middle-aged men less anxious about retirement, a variety of programs must be created and implemented that help them improve their self-efficacy prior to retirement. Furthermore, these men should be provided with educational and intervention programs that facilitate their adjustment to retirement and increase their awareness about retirement.
