  • Copper-based leadframe sheets were immersed in two kinds of hot alkaline solutions to form brown-oxide or black-oxide layer on the surface. The oxide-coated leadframe sheets were molded with epoxy molding compound (EMC). After post mold curing, the oxide-coated EMC-leadframe joints were machined to form sandwiched double-cantilever beam (SDCB) specimens. The SDCB specimens were used to measure the fracture toughness of the EMC/leadframe interfaces under quasi-Mode I loading conditions. Fracture surfaces were analyzed by various equipment to investigate failure path. The present paper deals with the failure path, and the cause of the failure path formation with an adhesion model will be treated in the succeeding paper.

  • Design details pertaining to the connection between some recently developed fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composite deck systems and the supporting girders require openings through cells of the deck. This significantly changes the stress distribution in these components. As a result, the conventional assumptions that deck designs are controlled by their stiffness, and not strength, needs a closer examination. This paper proposes an analytical method to investigate the stress states and failure mechanisms using a type of "global-local" modeling perspective, incorporating classical lamination theory and first ply failure criterion with use of appropriate stress concentration factors around the cutouts. The use of a "smeared-stress" approach is presented as a potential means of simplifying certain FRP specific complexities, while still enabling prediction of overall failure.

  • The initial buckling of thin walled structures does not result in immediate failure. This post buckling capability is used to achieve light weight design, and final failure of thin walled structure is called crippling. To predict the failure load, empirical methods are often used for thin walled structures in design stage. But empirical method accuracy depend on geometry. In this study, experimental, empirical and numerical study of the crippling behavior of I-section beam made of carbon-epoxy are performed. The progressive failure analysis model to simulate the crippling failure is evaluated using the test results. In this study, commercial software LS-DYNA is utilized to compute the collapse load of composite specimen. Six kinds of specimens were tested in axial compression where correlation between analytical and experimental results has performed. From the results, we have partially conclude that the flange width-to-thickness ratio is found to influence the accuracy of empirical and numerical method.

  • The object of the project management is to succeed in the project. However, could you definitely judge that the result of project performance is a success? In addition, do both customer and developer agree with the result of your judgement? There are a lot of definitions and measure for the success and failure of the software development suggested, but there is no definite standard for the classification. This paper examines the measures in order to decide the development success and re-defines the success and the failure of the project. We suggest the measure and the standard that judge the project achievement based on these definitions. Applying the suggested measure and standard, it is possible to reduce arguments between the customer and the developer on the classification of the success and the failure.

  • The armor composite material targets such as aramid FRMLs with different type and ply number of face material and different type of back-up material, were studied to determine ballistic impact resistance and dynamic failure behavior during ballistic impact. Ballistic impact resistance is determined by $\textrm{V}_{50}$ ballistic limit, a statical velocity with 50% probability for complete penetration, test method. Also dynamic failure behaviors are respectfully observed that result from $\textrm{V}_{50}$ tests. $\textrm{V}_{50}$ tests with $0^{\circ}$ obliquity at room temperature were conducted with projectiles that were able to achieve near or complete penetration during high velocity impact tests. As a result, ballistic impact resistance of anodized Al 5052-H34 alloy(2 ply) is better than that of anodized Al 5052-H34 alloy(1 ply), but Titanium alloy showed the similar ballistic impact resistance. In the face material, ballistic impact resistance of titanium alloy is better than that of anodized Al 5052-H34 alloy. In the back-up material, ballistic impact resistance of T750 type aramid fiber is better than that of CT709 type aramid fiber.

  • Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) is an extension of FMEA which includes a criticality analysis. The criticality analysis is used to chart the probability of failure modes against the severity of their consequences. The result highlights failure modes with relatively high probability and severity of consequences, allowing remedial effort to be directed where it will produce the greatest value. However, there are several limitations. Measuring severity of failure consequences is subjective and linguistic. Since The result of FMECA only gives qualitative and quantitative informations, it should be re-analysed to prioritize critical units. Fuzzy set theory has been introduced by Lotfi A. Zadeh (1965). It has extended the classical set theory dramatically. Based on fuzzy set theory, fuzzy logic has been developed employing human reasoning process. IF-THEN fuzzy rule based assessment approach can model the expert's decision logic appropriately. Fault tree analysis (FTA) is one of most common fault modeling techniques. It is widely used in many fields practically. In this paper, a simple fault tree analysis is proposed to measure the severity of components. Fuzzy rule based assessment method interprets linguistic variables for determination of critical unit priorities. An rail-way transforming system is analysed to describe the proposed method.

  • Recently, a number of evaluation studies on availability of plant were carried out. This study was conducted to verify of the reliability of a simulation with some variable such as configuration of process, failure probability density function and the number of iteration times for the natural gas liquefaction plant. The error rate of the KICT-RAM solution was evaluated as 0.03~1.79% compared with the result of the MAROS(commercial solution). And the error-rate change was observed in the range of 0.03~1.75 on the condition of the iteration times as 30, 100, 250. As a result the plant availability evaluation approach of KICT-RAM solution was verified as reasonable. However, the careful approach was required to use the solution because the error-rate increased according to iteration times change.

  • It is quite impossible for a service firm to deliver service without failure. The main reason is that service is intangible, perishable and heterogeneous in nature. Every service firm tries its best to recover service failure with understanding that service failure affects customers' evaluation and attitude for the firm. The research finds that customers' satisfaction after recovery affects customers' intentions both service encounter satisfaction and overall firm satisfaction strongly affects positive word-of-month and purchase intentions. The results have implications to researchers and service marketing managers. For researchers, the result will be helpful for them to further develop service failure and recovery framework. For service marketing managers, the result will suggest specific guidelines for establishing service recovery strategies.

  • This study was undertaken to determine if Plantaginis Semen Herbal Acupuncture(PSA) has a protective effect against glycerol-induced acute renal failure in rats. Rats were dehydrated for 24hr and then injected with 8 ml/kg of $50\%$ glycerol, one-half of dose in each hindlimb muscle. In experiments for PSA effect, rats received 0.1 ml of PSA extraction in both sides of corresponding Shenso($BL_{23}$) of human body for 3 days after injection of glycerol. The experimental group were di vided into the Normal group, the Control group, the PSA group. Glycerol injection decreased glomerular filtration rate and increased urine volume, serum creatinine, BUN level and fractional excretion of glucose, $Na^+$, $K^+$ and $CI^-$. These result show that glycerol injection result in acute renal failure. PSA significantly increased glomerular filtration rate and significantly decreased serum creatinine, BUN level and fractional excretion of glucose, $Na^+$ and $CI^-$ as compared Control group. This suggests that PSA could be used in prevention and treatment of acute renalfailure. However, the precise mechanisms of PSA protection remain to be determined.

  • A probabilistic approach for evaluating failure risk is suggested in this paper. Probabilistic fracture analyses were performed for a pressurized pipe of a Cr-Mo steel reflecting variation of material properties at high temperature. A crack was assumed to be located along the weld fusion line. Probability density functions of major variables were determined by statistical analyses of material creep and creep crack growth data measured by the previous experimental studies by authors. Distributions of these variables were implemented in Monte Carlo simulation of this study. As a fracture parameter for characterizing growth of a fusion line crack between two materials with different creep properties, $C_t$ normalized with $C^*$ was employed. And the elapsed time was also normalized with tT, Resultingly, failure probability as a function of operating time was evaluated fur various cases. Conventional deterministic life assessment result was turned out to be conservative compared with that of probabilistic result. Sensitivity analysis for each input variable was conducted to understand the most influencing variable to the analysis results. Internal pressure, creep crack growth coefficient and creep coefficient were more sensitive to failure probability than other variables.
