Considering the thermal unstableness of ginseng components, microwave-assisted extraction(MAE) was performed under the atmospheric pressure condition. The monitoring of extraction characteristics and the optimization of extraction conditions were made by response surface methodology. The extraction efficiency of soluble ginseng components was high at lower ethanol concentration and at higher microwave power, while crude saponin content was easily extracted at higher ethanol concentration. Estimated conditions for the maximized extraction of soluble components including crude saponin, total phenolics and electron donating ability were $54{\sim}60%$ in ethanol concentration, $41{\sim}90$ W in microwave power, and within 4 min in extraction time. Predicted values at the optimum condition(60% ethanol, 80 W microwave power and 4 min extraction time) were in good agreement with observed values.
Optimal drying conditions consisting of air temperature and relative humidity were searched by the simulation-optimization technique for minimizing quality changes in red pepper drying. Optimized drying conditions were analysed in the viewpoint of quality change kinetics and effects of control variables on the state variables. Optimal drying conditions were nearly same in both cases for carotenoid maximization and browning minimization. In two staged optimized drying, relative humidity took a lower search limit of about 10%, and air temperature in the first stage was near the lower limit of $50^{\circ}C$ and in second stage increased to a higher temperature varying with total drying time and stage changing time. Response surface analysis of time invariable drying confirmed the location of the optimal point lying on the vertex of lower limit humidity and a lowest drying temperature which ensures to attain target moisture of 0.2g water/g dry solid. Two stage drying can attain the higher objective function of quality by 3-5% than time invariable drying for shorter total drying times.

A field experiment was conducted at the forage experimental plots, Seoul National University, Suweon h m 1995 to 1996 to determine the effect of legume residues as a N source and N fertilizer on corn (Zea mays L.) silage yield, N uptake, and availability of inorganic N in the soil. Corn was grown following (i) red clover (Trifolium pratense L.), (ii) crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum L.), (iii) alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) and (iv) winter fallow. The plots were split into two rates of fertilizer N (0 and 90kg Nlha) in a split-plot experimental plan. Compared with fallow treatment, legumes depleted soil water in the surface 15cm at corn planting by 17 to 26%. As a result, corn emergence was markedly delayed with legume residues by 8 to 11 days. Corn silage DM yield was significantly reduced in the presence of legume residues by 2.0 to 3.4 and 1.5 to 2.5 tonlha compared with winter fallow treatment at 0 and 90kg fertilizer Nlha, respectively, but no significant difference in the corn DM yield was found between legume residue treatments. There was an overall tendency for increased corn yields with 90kg fertilizer Nlha compared to Okg fertilizer Nlha, although not all yield increases were significantly greater. The corn yield response to applied N suggests that a source of N from legume residues was not sufficient for a succeeding corn crop. There was significantly more N (P

This paper is concerned with optimum design of a center-pillar assembly induced by the high-speed side impact of the vehicle. In order to simulate deformation behavior of the center-pillar assembly, simplified finite element model of the center-pillar and a moving deformable barrier are developed based on results of the crash analysis of a full vehicle model. In optimization of the deformation shape of the center-pillar, S-shaped deformation is targeted to guarantee reduction of the injury level of a driver dummy in the crash test. Tailor-welded blanks are adopted in the simplified center-pillar model to control the deformation shape of the center-pillar assembly. The thickness of each part which constitutes the simplified model is selected as a design parameter. The thickness of parts which have significant effect on the deformation mechanism are selected as design parameters with sensitivity analysis based on the design of experiment technique. The objective function is constructed so as to minimize the weight and lead to an S-mode deformation shape. The result shows that the simplified model can be utilized effectively for optimum design of the center-pillar members with remarkable saving of computing time.

We report the characteristics and the dependence of sputter-deposited Ta films on the process parameters. The properties of as-deposited Ta films such as deposition rate, resistivity, Rs uniformity, reflectivity, and stress were investigated and analyzed as a function of process parameter using a statistical experimental method. The functional relationships between the independent and dependent variables were predicted by surface response. The optimal deposition condition of DC magnetron sputtered Ta films was obtained at the chamber pressure of 2 mTorr, power density of 8 W/$\textrm{cm}^2$, and substrate temperature of 2$0^{\circ}C$ by means of resistivity and Rs uniformity. The fitness value for quadratic model as evaluated by the R- square was 0.85~ 0.9 without pooling. The as-deposited Ta films exhibited the resistivity of ~180$\mu$$\Omega$cm with Rs uniformity of ~2%. The transmission electron microscopy and x-ray diffractometry identified that the phase of as-deposited film was $\beta$-Ta having the grain size of 100~200.
This study develops DNA array which can detect specific sequence of human papilomavirus (HPV) by using lateral flow membrane assay which is usually used for point of care test including pregnant diagnosis. Principle of HPV DNA array is as follow; fixing DNA probe which is peculiar to HPV type 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 45 on a surface of lateral flow membrane and inducing hybridization response between probe and HPV PCR products which is obtained by using biotin-labeled MY09/l1 primers. And then, we can see the result of DNA hybridization that streptavidin labelled colloidal gold is responded with hybrid biotin. Lateral flow membrane array developed in this study confirms major HPV type economically and conveniently compared with existing HPV DNA chip method.
The dragload on pile groups in consolidating ground was investigated based on a numerical analysis. The case of a single pile and subsequently the response of groups were analyzed by 2D and 3D finite element studies. Conventional continuum elements and special slip elements were used in the analyses for comparison. Based on a limited parametric study, it is shown that dragload for a single pile and group effect are normally overestimated by continuum analyses, compared with the predictions by the slip analyses. The group effect was examined from the slip analysis by considering various factors such as pile configurations, surface loading, interface friction coefficient, and axial loading on piles. An examplary analysis and one previous experimental observation of dragload and group effects were back-analysed. The case histories demonstrated that the slip analysis might predict a better estimate of dragload and group effect compared to the no-slip continuum analysis.

High temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) using phosphoric acid (PA) doped polybenzimidazole (PBI) membranes have been concentrated as one of solutions to the limits with traditional low temperature PEMFCs. However, the amount of reported experimental data is not enough to catch the operational characteristics correlated with cell performance and durability. In this study, design of experiments (DOE) based operational optimization method for high temperature PEMFCs has been proposed. Response surface method (RSM) is very useful to effectively analyze target system's characteristics and to optimize operating conditions for a short time. Thus RSM using central composite design (CCD) as one of methodologies for design of experiments (DOE) was adopted. For this work, the statistic models which predict the performance and degradation rate with respect to the operating conditions have been developed. The developed performance and degradation models exhibit a good agreement with experimental data. Compared to the existing arbitrary operation, the expected cell lifetime and average cell performance during whole operation could be improved by optimizing operating conditions. Furthermore, the proposed optimization method could find different new optimal solutions for operating conditions if the target lifetime of the fuel cell system is changed. It is expected that the proposed method is very useful to find optimal operating conditions and enhance performance and durability for many other types of fuel cell systems.
For electrolysis process using an insoluble electrode, electrochemical performance was greatly affected by the manufacturing method and procedure, such as the firing temperature, pre-treatment, type of precursor solution, coating method, electrode material, etc. Components of the electrode therein is one of the most important factors in electrochemical reaction. To achieve such characteristics, a appropriate ratio of the electrode material should be carefully chosen. The aim of this research was to apply experimental design method in the optimization of electrode component for the maximum generation of oxidants in electrochemical oxidation process. Mixture design, especially expanded simplex lattice design, in DOME (design of mixture experiments) with Design Expert - commercial software - was used to analyze the data. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed a high coefficient of determination ($R^2$) value of 0.9470, thus ensuring a satisfactory adjustment of the $3^{rd}$ order special cubic regression model with the experimental data. The application of response surface methodology (RSM) yielded the following regression equation, which is an empirical relationship between the TRO generation concentration and independent variables(mol ratio of 3 electrode components) in a real unit: TRO generation concentration $(mg/L)=TRO\;conc.=98.25{\times}[Ir]+49.71{\times}[Sn]+95.29{\times}[Sb]-16.91{\times}[Ir]{\times}[Sn]-29.47{\times}[Ir]{\times}[Sb]-22.65{\times}[Sn]{\times}[Sb]+703.19{\times}[Ir]{\times}[Sn]{\times}[Sb]$. The optimized formulation of the 3 component electrode for an high TRO (total residual oxidants) generation was acquired at mol ratio of Ir 0.406, Sn 0.210, Sb 0.384 (desirability d value, 1).

In this paper, a vital signal sensor based on impedance variation of resonator is presented. Proposed vital signal sensor can detect the vital signal, such as respiration and heart-beat signal. System is composed of resonator, oscillator, surface acoustic wave (SAW) filter, and power detector. The cyclical movement of a dielectric such as a human body, causes the impedance variation of resonator within the near-field range. So oscillator's oscillation frequency variation is effected on resonator's resonant frequency. SAW filter's skirt characteristic of frequency response can be transformed a small amount of frequency deviation to a large variation. Aim to enhance the existing sensor detection range, proposed sensor operates in 870 MHz ISM band, and detect respiration and heart-beat signal at distance of 120 mm.
