This paper is concerned with the numerical investigation of the transfer characteristics of the landing impact force exerted on court sport shoes to the sport surface condition. The reaction force occurred by the impact between court sport shoes and sport surface is absorbed by shoes to some extent, but the remaining impact force is to transfer the human body from the sole of a foot. We consider four surface conditions, asphalt, urethane, clay and wood court surfaces. For the dynamic response analysis, we construct a coupled leg-shoes FEM model and create the multi-layered composite surface model. The numerical simulations are performed by an explicit nonlinear finite element method. Through the numerical experiments, we examine the transfer characteristics of the landing impact force to the surface condition.
The problem of a semi-infinite magneto-electro-elastically impermeable mode-III crack in a magneto-electro-elastic material is considered under the action of impact loads. For the case when a pair of concentrated anti-plane shear impacts, electric displacement and magnetic induction impacts are exerted symmetrically on the upper and lower surfaces of the crack, the magneto-electro-elastic field ahead of the crack tip is determined in explicit form. The dynamic intensity factors and dynamic energy density factor are obtained. The method adopted is to reduce the mixed initial-boundary value problem, by using the Laplace and Fourier transforms, into three simultaneous dual integral equations, one of which is converted into an Abel's integral equation and the others into a singular integral equation with Cauchy kernel. Based on the obtained fundamental solutions of point impact loads, the solutions of two kinds of different loading cases are evaluated by integration. For some particular cases, the present results reduce to the previous results.
We studied the electro-optical (EO) performance in the vertical-alignment (VA) - l/4$\pi$ cell photoaligned with polarized UV exposure on a homeotropic photopolymer surfaces. Excellent voltage-transmittance curve in the VA - l/4$\pi$ cell photoaligned with polarized UV exposure for 3 min on the photopolymer containing cholesterol group of 8% can be achieved. The V-T characteristics in the VA-l/4$\pi$ cell photoaligned on the photopolymer surface can be improved by increasing cholesteryl group. For response time measurement, the transmittance characteristics of the VA-l/4$\pi$ cell photoaligned on the photopolymer surface was better than that of the VA-l/4$\pi$ cell rubbingaligned on a polyimide(Pl) surface.
Vital pulpotomies by conventional method were done in 120 male and female cases between the ages of 20 and 60 who visited to SNUDH. The pulpotomized surfaces were covered by FR paste and clinical symptoms were carefully examined 1 week and 4 weeks later. The results were as follows; 1. There was no distinct difference between male and female as a whole, and pain to cold and hot or percussion was increased by aging. 2. Incidence of pain to cold and hot or percussion in group examined 4 weeks later was slightly increased than in group examined 1 week later. 3. There was no case of pain to cold and hot or percussion over all ages after 1 week, but were 5 cases (male 2, female 3) in 40 age, and were 3 cases (male 1, female 2) in 50 age after 4 weeks. 4. In 20 and 30 age, there was no case of pain to cold and hot or percussion after 4 weeks, also.
Variable Structure Control(VSC) scheme with sliding mode is widely used to keep a control system insensitive to parameter variations and disturbances. However, the conventional sliding mode control has the undesired phenomenon of chattering which may become a serious problem. Also the restriction of the sliding mode regime cannot guarantee the insensitivity throughout an entire response. In this paper, the sliding surfaces, which are composed of three-line segments, are used to remove the reaching phase. Also, the concept of fuzzy logic is incorporated with the sliding mode control in order to control the unknown or partially known systems effectively. The proposed method is applied to a Double-Sided MM Type LDM to show its usefulness.
In order to remove the assumption of full state availability which is one of the major difficulties with the practical realization of variable structure control system (VSCS), an output feedback variable structure control scheme for multivariable systems is proposed. The proposed output feedback VSCS is composed of a switching surfaces with dynamic structure and a new output feedback control input that can be constructed by using conventional output feedback control input design methodologies. With the proposed scheme, the practical realization of VSCS for the systems with unmeasurable states and for high order systems that conventional schemes cannot be applied is possible. Simulation results show that proposed scheme is a viable method to achieve the desired control performance, for example, good transient response, robustness against process parameter variations and external disturbance without measuring all the state variables.
A simple method has been developed to detect the bonding condition of active fiber composites (AFC) adhered to the surface of a host structure. Large deformation actuating capability is one of important features of AFC. Edge delamination in adhesive layer due to large interfacial shear stress at the free edge is typically resulted from axial strain mismatch between bonded materials. AFC patch possesses very good flexibility and toughness. When an AFC patch is partially delaminated from host structure, there remains sensing capability in the debonded part. The debonding size can be determined through axial resonance measured by the interdigitated electrodes symmetrically aligned on opposite surfaces of the patch. The electrical impedance and modal response of the AFC patch in part adhered to an aluminum plate were investigated in a broad frequency range. Debonding ratio of the AFC patch is in inverse proportion to the resonant frequency of the fundamental mode. Feasibility of in-situ detecting the progressive delamination between AFC patch and host plate is demonstrated.
The postbuckling behavior of laminated composite plates and shells, subjected to various shear loadings, is presented, using a modified 8-ANS method. The finite element, based on a modified first-order shear deformation theory, is further improved by the combined use of assumed natural strain method. We analyze the influence of the shell element with the various location and number of enhanced membrane and shear interpolation. Using the assumed natural strain method with proper interpolation functions, the present shell element generates neither membrane nor shear locking behavior even when full integration is used in the formulation. The effects of various types of lay-ups, materials and number of layers on initial buckling and postbuckling response of the laminated composite plates and shells for various shear loading have been discussed. In addition, the effect of direction of shear load on the postbuckling behavior is studied. Numerical results and comparisons of the present results with those found in the literature for typical benchmark problems involving symmetric cross-ply laminated composites are found to be excellent and show the validity of the developed finite element model. The study is relevant to the simulation of barrels, pipes, wing surfaces, aircrafts, rockets and missile structures subjected to intense complex loading.
This study investigates the vibro-acoustic characteristics of an automotive brake drum given free boundaries using the hybrid approach combining numerically obtained structural properties with analytical solution for acoustic radiation. Structural vibrations of the drum are investigated with the finite element method, and modal displacements on the outer surfaces of the drum are idealized as simple mathematical expressions. Based on the expressions, modal sound radiations of the drum are calculated using the Rayleigh integral method. Structural and acoustic responses of the drum for a harmonic excitation are obtained from above results using the modal expansion technique. The results are confirmed with numerical analyses using the boundary element method. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the vibro-acoustic characteristics of a brake drum can be accurately investigated with the process used in this study. Also, many noise and vibration problems in drum brake can be addressed using the procedure proposed in this study.
A study on the flow-structure characteristics of marine 3/2WAY pneumatic valve is essential for optimizing the performance of ship engines. It is important that the valve has desirable safety factor and reduced weight from safety and economic point of view. In this paper, flow-structure characteristics of pneumatic valve is obtained by being optimized based on the proper design criteria. The air with the pressure of 30 bar is the working fluid which is made to fill in the tack in short time. This time is defined as the filling time. On optimum design by considering the flow-structure characteristics, the approach is based on (1) the mathematical formulation of design decisions using the compromise decision-making method, and (2) the approximation technique of response surfaces. The methodology is demonstrated as the multi-objective optimization tool to improve the performance of marine 3/2WAY pneumatic valve.
