  • Resource recovery and recycling of materials and products, including polyurethanes is viewed as a necessity in today's society. Most urethane polymers are made from a polyol and a diisocyanate. these and be chemicals such as water, diamines or diols that react with isocyanate groups and add to the polymer backbone. The problems of recycling polyurethane wastes has major technological, economic and ecological significance because polyurethane itself is relatively expensive and its disposal whether by burning is also costly. In general, the recycling methods for polyurethane could be classified as mechanical, chemical and feedstock. In the chemical recycling method, there are hydrolysis, glycolysis, pyrolysis and aminolysis. This study, the work was carried out glycolysis using sonication ant catalyzed reaction. Different kinds of recycled polyols were produced by current method(glycolysis), catalyzed reaction and sonication as decomposers and the chemical properties were analyzed. The reaction results in the formation of polyester urethane diols, the OH value which is determined by the quantity of diol used for the glycolysis conditions. 산업폐기물 소각장에서 발생된 소각비산회의 침출특성 (Characteristic of Leaching with Incineration Fly Ash of Industrial Solid Wastes)

  • 본 연구에서는 산업폐기물 소각비산재를 2차자원으로 이용하기 위하여 침출법으로 금속의 존재와 그 양을 확인하여 분리·회수에 대한 기초자료를 제시하였다. 소각 비산재의 침출액에서는 다량의 Cu, Pb, Zn과 다양한 유해 중금속이 미량 함유되어 있었으며, 이들 소각재에 함유된 성분의 농도는 소각로에 도입되는 폐기물의 종류에 따라 차이가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 침출제로서 물, 황산, 탄산암모늄의 수산화나트륨을 이용하여 여러단계의 침출조작을 시도하여 하였다. 물 침출에 의하여 구리를, 수산화나트륨의 침출액에 의하여 아연과 납을 분리하고, 3차 침출제인 탄산암모늄의 침출액에 의하여 물에 미용해된 구리를 착이온 형태로 선택적으로 침출할 수 있었다. 각 단계별에 의한 무게 감량율은 물, 황산, 탄산암모늄에 의한 각 단계의 침출에 의하여 77%의 감량을 확인하였으며, 그 외의 각 방법에서는 60%이상의 무게 감량을 나타내었다.

국내 인쇄회로기판의 재활용 상용화 기술 및 연구동향 분석 (Analysis of Commercial Recycling Technology and Research Trend of Printed Circuit Boards in Korea)

  • 최근 전자산업의 급격한 성장으로 전자부품스크랩의 발생량 역시 빠르게 증가하고 있다. 특히 전자부품스크랩의 구성부품 중 인쇄회로기판(PCB)은 금, 은, 구리, 주석 및 니켈 등 일반금속부터 귀금속 및 희소금속까지 포함하고 있는 중요한 재활용 대상이다. 하지만 국내에는 일부 대기업을 중심으로 한 PCB 처리 및 재활용 기술이 상용화되어 있으며 그 외 처리량에 대해서는 정확하게 집계되지 않고 있는 실정이다. 이에 따라 몇몇 도시광산 업체 및 연구소, 대학교를 중심으로 기존 대기업 중심의 상용화 공정 외에 PCB로부터 유가금속을 회수하고 원료로 재사용하는 연구가 진행되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 국내의 폐 PCB의 처리 및 회수현황과 재활용 기술 동향을 분석하였고, 이를 통해 PCB 폐자원의 자원순환 활성화에 기여하고자 하였다.

Hydrological Variability of Lake Chad using Satellite Gravimetry, Altimetry and Global Hydrological Models

  • Sustainable water resource management requires the assessment of hydrological variability in response to climate fluctuations and anthropogenic activities. Determining quantitative estimates of water balance and total basin discharge are of utmost importance to understand the variations within a basin. Hard-to-reach areas with few infrastructures, coupled with lengthy administrative procedures makes in-situ data collection and water management processes very difficult and unreliable. In this study, the hydrological behavior of Lake Chad whose extent, extreme climatic and environmental conditions make it difficult to collect field observations was examined. During a 10 year period [January 2003 to December 2013], dataset from space-borne and global hydrological models observations were analyzed. Terrestial water storage (TWS) data retrieved from Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE), lake level variations from Satellite altimetry, water fluxes and soil moisture from Global Land Data Assimilation System (GLDAS) were used for this study. Furthermore, we combined altimetry lake volume with TWS over the lake drainage basin to estimate groundwater and soil moisture variations. This will be validated with groundwater estimates from WaterGAP Global Hydrology Model (WGHM) outputs. TWS showed similar variation patterns Lake water level as expected. The TWS in the basin area is governed by the lake's surface water. As expected, rainfall from GLDAS precedes GRACE TWS with a phase lag of about 1 month. Estimates of groundwater and soil moisture content volume changes derived by combining altimetric Lake Volume with TWS over the drainage basin are ongoing. Results obtained shall be compared with WaterGap Hydrology Model (WGHM) groundwater estimate outputs.

잔류 불산에 의한 모델 지질토양시료의 광물 용해 및 비소 용출 특성 (Impact of Residual Hydrofluoric Acid on Leaching of Minerals and Arsenic from Different Types of Geological Media)

  • This study explored secondary effects of the residual hydrofluoric acid (HF) after a hypothetical acid spill accident by investigating the long-term dissolution of minerals and leaching of pre-existing arsenic (As) from two soil samples (i.e., KBS and KBM) through batch and column experiments. An increase in the HF concentration in both soil samples resulted in a dramatic increase in the release of major cations, especially Si. However, the amounts of mineral dissolved were dependent on the soil type and mineral characteristics. Compared to the KBM soil, relatively more Ca, Mg and Si were dissolved from the KBS soil. The column experiment showed that the long-term dissolution rates of the minerals are closely associated with the acid buffering capacity of the two soils. The KBM soil had relatively higher effluent pH values compared to the KBS soil. Also, more As was leached from the KBM soil, with a more amorphous hydrous oxide-bound As fraction. These results suggest that the potential of heavy metal leaching by the residual acid after an acid spill will be influenced by heavy metal speciation and mineral structure in the affected soil.

국내 유통 돈분 액비의 미생물 함량 모니터링 (Monitoring of Microorganisms in Commercial Liquid Pig Manures in Korea)

  • Total aerobic bacteria, Esherichia coli O157:H7, and Salmonella spp. were examined in commercial liquid pig manures. Commercial liquid pig manures (n=33) were collected from muck joint resource recovery plant at April, June, August, October 2009, Korea. Total aerobic bacteria were incubated at $37^{\circ}C$ for 24-48 hrs, and quantified as a colony-forming unit (CFU) $mL^{-1}$. Analysis of Esherichia coli O157:H7 and Salmonella spp. were followed by Korean Food Standards Codex method. Colony of Salmonella spp. was confirmed by API kit and real time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Total aerobic bacteria isolated from fermented commercial liquid pig manures ranged from 2.8 to $24.3{\times}10^4\;CFU\;mL^{-1}$. Esherichia coli O157:H7 was not detected, and Salmonella spp. showed the low detection frequency at only 1 sample. This study suggests that continuous monitoring in commercial liquid pig manures is required to improve the agricultural food through management of agricultural land contaminated with liquid pig manures.

레드머드 중화 방법에 따른 토양 중 비소의 안정화 특성 평가 (Effect of Neutralization of Red Mud on Arsenic Stabilization in Soils)

  • Since the amount of red mud, generated from aluminum smelting process as a by-product, has increased worldwide, the recycle and metal resource recovery from the red mud is becoming more important. In this study, in order to recycle the red mud as a soil stabilizer to remediate arsenic contaminated soils, neutralization of red mud was investigated. Red mud was neutralized by washing with distilled water and NaCl, CaCl2, FeCl3, and HCl solutions and heating at 200-800℃, and arsenic stabilization characteristics in soils were evaluated with the neutralized red mud. Although washing with distilled water was not effective in neutralizing red mud, the application of the washed red mud to soils lowered the soil pH compared to the application of untreated red mud. Among NaCl, CaCl2, FeCl3, and HCl solutions, washing with FeCl3 showed the most effective in lowering pH of the red mud from pH 10.73 to pH 4.26. Application of the neutralized red mud in soils resulted in quite different arsenic stabilization efficiency depending on soil samples. In M1 soil, which showed relatively high arsenic stabilization efficiency by untreated red mud, the neutralization of red mud resulted in little effect on arsenic stabilization in soil. On the other hand, in M2 soil, which showed low arsenic stabilization efficiency by untreated red mud, the neutralization of red mud increased arsenic stabilization significantly. Soil characteristics such as clay minerals and pH buffering capacity seemed to affect reactions between red mud and soils, which resulted in different effects of the red mud application on soil pH and arsenic stabilization efficiencies.

매립지 메탄 및 악취 배출 저감을 위한 바이오커버 및 바이오필터의 현장적용 평가 연구 (Evaluation of field application of biocover and biofilter to reduce landfill methane and odor emissions)

  • In order to reduce odor and methane emission from the landfill, open biocovers and a closed biofilter were applied to the landfill site. Three biocovers and the biofilter are suitable for relatively small-sized landfills with facilities that cannot resource methane into recovery due to small volumes of methane emission. Biocover-1 consists only of the soil of the landfill site while biocover-2 is mixed with the earthworm casts and artificial soil (perlite). The biofilter formed a bio-layer by adding mixed food waste compost as packing material of biocover-2. The removal efficiency decreased over time on biocover-1. However, biocover-2 and the biofilter showed stable odor removal efficiency. The rates of methane removal efficiency were in order of biofilter (94.9%)>, biocover-1(42.3%)>, and biocover-2 (37.0%). The methane removal efficiency over time in biocover-1 was gradually decreased. However, drastic efficiency decline was observed in biocover-2 due to the hardening process. As a result of overturning the surface soil where the hardening process was observed, methane removal efficiency increased again. The biofilter showed stable methane removal efficiency without degradation. The estimate methane oxidation rate in biocover-1 was an average of 10.4%. Biocover-2 showed an efficiency of 46.3% after 25 days of forming biocover. However, due to hardening process efficiency dropped to 4.6%. After overturn of the surface soil, the rate subsequently increased to 17.9%, with an evaluated average of 12.5%.

해저 퇴적토 내 유기성 메탄 회수를 위한 가스하이드레이트 치환기법 연구 (A Study on Gas Hydrate Replacement Method for Organic Methane Recovery in Ocean Sediment)

  • 본 연구에서는 압력, 전해질, 유기물 등 가스하이드레이트 부존 지역의 물리화학적 인자가 치환반응에 미치는 영향을 실험적으로 규명하였다. 가스 주입 시 초기 압력이 높을수록 초반 반응속도는 향상되었으나 시간이 지남에 따라 치환효율이 일정한 값으로 수렴하였다. 전해질과 유기물 등의 경우 가스하이드레이트 해리 후 재생성 과정에서 일부 영향을 미치는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 향후 실제 유기성 메탄 하이드레이트가 부존된 퇴적토를 활용한 추가 연구를 통해 국내 해저 지질특성에 적용 가능한 기술 개발이 가능할 것으로 기대된다. 궁극적으로 향후 동해 울릉 분지의 가스하이드레이트 매장 지역 현장 적용을 통해서 유기성 자원인 메탄을 회수하고 활용할 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

섬진강수계의 오염원 관리방안에 따른 수질 개선에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of Water Quality according to the Pollution Management Plan of Seomjin River Water System)

  • 본 연구는 전라북도 섬진강수계의 수질을 예측 분석하여 수질을 개선하는 시나리오를 구성하여 결과를 산출하였다. 결과적으로 공공하수처리시설의 배출수 관리강화 및 오염물질 관리 개선과 국내 축산계 감소에 따라 수질이 최대 BOD 15.32 %, T-N 7.17 %, T-P 62.86 %로 개선된 것으로 분석되었다. 효율적인 감축 계획수립, 오염부하량 저감계획, 하수 처리 효율 증대 계획, 공공하수처리시설 확대로 인한 오염물질 감소 및 총 오염 부하 동물 배설물 에너지 회수 등 다양한 삭감계획을 보완한 것으로 분석되었다. 자연증가 및 경제발전을 고려한 수질 개선 계획에 대한 연구개발은 수질 개선에 효율적이다.
