  • Ttukseom was once a suburban area that had a government horse ranch for national use and a naenogpo (area of royal farm land). During the Japanese colonial period, a pleasure ground was built at Ttukseom, and after independence, it has been used as a park through the process of urbanization. This study examines the creation of the Ttukseom Pleasure Ground and the process through which the pleasure ground were transformed to a park. This study also explores its landscape and cultural aspects. In the 1930s, Gyeongseonggwedo (京城軌道), a private railway company, built a pleasure ground at Ttukseom to attract passengers, according to the business model of Japanese railway companies, in which recreational areas were developed near railway routes. Mass media portrayed this area as a "rural landscape" in contrast to the city. The Ttukseom Pleasure Ground emerged as a popular summer resort for Gyeongseong citizens. At the same time, it was managed by Gyeongseongbu (京城府). The city of Seoul began to manage the Ttukseom Pleasure Ground following independence, and development plans for Ttukseom as a pleasure ground or a park were continuously drafted but never implemented. Even after Korea's independence, the operation and use of the pleasure ground did not change significantly from the colonial era. In the late 1980s, the Ttukseom Pleasure Ground became the Ttukseom Han River Citizen's Park, and the sandy beach of the Han River was removed. Nonetheless, the previous facilities and major activities such as an open-air swimming pool, camp ground, and areas for boat recreation remained as major park programs. When the urbanization of Ttukseom was completed, its idyllic image disappeared and it became a park instead of a pleasure ground. Since parks expand their programs, it can be concluded that by providing those kinds of programs, the Ttukseom Pleasure Ground transformed to a park.

  • As a part of the Saemangeum development, the Gunsan Bi-eung port is underway to be developed for a tourism complex. Since the perception and preferences of the residents are one of the most important steps for the project, those were surveyed and analyzed to generate a proposed vitalization plan. Based on the survey, most of residents had negative opinions on the current development and condition as well as the effectiveness of the development in the future. Residents also pointed out that leisure facilities and higher level of accommodation were necessary, and desired a coastal deck in the Bi-eung beach. Therefore, for vitalization of Bi-eung port area, construction of a comprehensive resort with sports and leisure facility is suggested to attract visitors. Also, efforts from residents and administrative supports are required in marketing, advertizement, and sound business environment.

  • Proliferation of high performance internet infrastructures finally allows their users download a single copy of regular movie just within in a couple of seconds. Ease of accesses to the software for downloading consequently leads them insensitive to the ethics or legitimacy of their conduct. Thus, strong legal action is enforced for piracy over nationally through strengthen the copyright law. We in this paper conducted a survey to see whether netizens prefer to download just for the matter of their convenience. Whilst the level of awareness is addressed even in a far-fetched manner in the area of music piracy and computer software piracy, the case of movie is much different in that we even fail to find any survey that has been made for movie piracy. The survey has been made by devising questionnaires for netizens and it was posted web WorldSurvey, which is the most prominent online survey site in Korea. To our surprise, 9 out of 10 respondents expressed they actually resort to illegal downloading for the reason of convenience. We realized one more surprise. More than 95% of netizens conspicuously aware of their downloading behaviors are mischievous and illegal without reservation.

  • Recently the target area for the installation of structures have been changed from shallow water into deep one by reservation and use of the wider coastal region, and development of deep water. Additionally, great emphasis in the improved human life quality has been placed on the necessities for the preservation of the agreeable natural and coastal environments and development waterfront, recreation, and resort in the sea. However, the existing gravity-type breakwater did not appropriately cope with the recent changes of circumstances, but required the enormous construction coat for coping with them. Until now, floating breakwuater, which was adequate for the environment and construction cost, has been actively studied in the other countries including Japan. This floating breakwater has been already constructed in many places and satisfactory in poor subsoil and deep water in Japan. Also it showed the same function as a gravity-type breakwater. But floating breakwater was not control long period waves by reason of constructive characteristic. The aim of this study is to discuss field application of Floating Breakwater with Compound Plate Type(FBCPT) in coastal region by using numerical analyses and hydraulic model test.

  • Cameroon is a country in Western Africa with 16 million inhabitants. Located between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea, the country is bordered by the Bight of Biafra. It has a 402 km long coastline. It covers an area of about 475,440 sq km. Cameroon obtains its fish supply from five distinct sources notably-small scale maritime Fisheries, inland fisheries, industrial fisheries, aquaculture and importation. Despite its enormous potential, Cameroon produces only 180,000 metric tons fish annually. The total artisanal annual catch is estimated to be 55,000 t of which bonga/Sardinella, white shrimp and demersal fish contribute 58%, 27% and 15% respectively. The industrial fleet expanded rapidly during the sixties and by 1973 there were 29 trawlers and 13 shrimpers which landed a total of about 17,600 t of fish and shrimp. The total catch of the industrial fisheries peaked at about 20,400 t in 1976 and since then catches have generally declined. The per capita fish consumption in Cameroon stands at about 17.9 kg per inhabitant per year. This means that the demand of fish in Cameroon stands at about 280,000 tons. There is a deficit of in fish supply for which the government always resort to massive importation of fish products to meet the local demand. The main fish product for export from Cameroon is the prawn (Panacus duorarum). The main export market of Cameroon's prawn is the European Union (EU). Between 1998 and 2003, Cameroon's export value has been on the decline, dropping from 1,836 metric tons of prawns for a value of 264 millions USD in 1998 to 51 tonnes, for an estimated value of 315,000 USD in 2003. This drastic drop in exportation is consequential to Cameroon's auto suspension from the exportation of prawns towards the EU as a result of non compliance with EU standards. Today, a good quantity of the catches is being exported illicitly through neighbouring countries.

  • Recently, the occurrence of unusual heavy snow and cold are increasing due to the unusual global climate change. In particular, the temperature dropped to minus 69 degrees Celsius in the United States on January 8, 2018. In Korea, on February 17, 2014, the auditorium building in Gyeongju Mauna Resort was collapsed due to the heavy snowfall. Because of the tragic accident many studies on the reduction of snow damage is being conducted, but it is difficult to predict the exact damage due to the lack of historical damage data, and uncertainty of meteorological data due to the long distance between the damaged area and the observatory. Therefore, in this study, available data were collected from factors that are thought to be corresponding to snow damage, and the amount of snow damage was estimated categorically using a random forest. At present, the prediction accuracy was not sufficient due to lack of historical damage data and changes of the design code for green houses. However, if accurate weather data are obtained in the affected areas. the accuracy of estimates would increase enough for being used for be the degree preparedness of disaster management.

  • This paper suggests a new retrieval method using weighted vector sum to resolve a problem of traditional location-based retrieval method, nearest neighbor (NN) query, and NN query using direction. The proposed method filters out data with the radius, and then the remained retrieval area is filtered by a direction information compounded of a user's moving direction, a pre-fixed interesting direction, and a pre-fixed retrieval angle. The moving direction is computed from a vector or a weighted vector sum of several vectors using a weight to adopt several cases. The retrieval angle can be set from traditional $360^{\circ}$ to any degree you want. The retrieval data for this method can be a still and moving image recorded shooting location, and also several type of media like text, web, picture offering to customer with location of company or resort. The suggested method guarantees more accurate retrieval than traditional location-based retrieval methods because that the method selects data within the radius and then removes data of useless areas like passed areas or an area of different direction. Moreover, this method is more flexible and includes the direction based NN.

  • Research was focused on the improvement of poor drainage problems on golf course fairway which had not been performed soil test or properly amended during the course construction. The analysis of the drainage problem basically was caused by a deterioration of soil physical properties by the top layer compaction. The soil hardness reached about 3,000 Kpa around 5~6 cm of soil profile. The slow infiltration speed to subsoil by the compaction was caused directly a poor drainage capacity. However, the properly amended sand soil showed an apparent value of 1,500 Kpa through the subsoil. The water content test showed a similar result that higher rate of 20~30% and ideal rate of 8~12% at poor drainage area and successfully amended area, respectively. However, an imported topsoil media which had higher content of silt and clay from a trans-planted sod had made a heterogeneous soil profile and that caused a poor drain capacity by a low infiltration rate. Those drainage problems triggered to buildup a reduced soil layer by poor soil gas exchange. The soil environment of deoxidation enhanced anaerobic microbial population and induced methane gas build-up to 55 ppm, and that resulted an adverse effect on turf growth by root growth retardation, consequently.
