  • Due to the unclear mechanism of the influence of temperature on the resonance problem of doubly curved shells, this article aims to explore this issue. When the ambient temperature rises, the composite structure will expand. If the thermal effects are considered, the resonance response will become more complex. In the design of structure, thermal effect is inevitable. Therefore, it is of significance to study the resonant behavior of doubly curved shell structures in thermal environment. In view of this, this paper extends the previous work (She and Ding 2023) to the case of the nonlinear principal resonance behavior of graphene platelet reinforced metal foams (GPLRMFs) doubly curved shells in thermal environment. The effect of uniform temperature field is taken into consideration in the constitutive equation, and the nonlinear motion control equation considering temperature effect is derived. The modified Lindstedt Poincare (MLP) method is used to obtain the resonance response of doubly curved shells. Finally, we study the effects of temperature changes, shell types, material parameters, initial geometric imperfection and prestress on the forced vibration behaviors. It can be found that, as the temperature goes up, the resonance position can be advanced.

  • Vibration characteristics of harmonic drives and cyclo drives are reviewed. Both of two have two resonance frequencies inherently. Especially, the amplitudes of cyclo drives are over 1.0g. The test of the robot also shows large amplitude of vibration in the speed which is coincide with the resonance frequencies of reducers.

  • The cooling water system for the PEFP 20 MeV proton accelerator was established and tested to obtain the precise resonance frequency of DTL through the temperature control of cooling water. The water temperature in the main flow loop was manipulated by adjusting the proportion of hot water returning from the DTL structures through the heat exchanger loop. Due to low duty factor operation and insufficient cooling loop installation of the DTL tanks, the manual mode operation was applied to maintain the DTL temperatures close to their resonance temperatures. The optimized process conditions with flow balancing and pressure drop in the DTL cooling systems are reported.

  • Resonant-type electronic ballast for a metal halide discharge(MHD) lamp is proposed and implemented for 400W MHD lamp. HID lamps have good color rendition, long life and good focusing capability but they have flickers by acoustic resonance when driven at high frequency. A new control method is employed to remove acoustic resonance related instability in HID lamp. By using the amplitude modulation, a spread spectrum effect is employed on the ballast. The control loop of resonant inverter is analyzed and a current is designed. The ballast consists of a power factor controller, an half-bridge resonant inverter, a simple ignitor and an integrator with OP-amps. The experimental results show the good performance as PF 0.93, ballast loss 22W at output 400W and the conducted EMI level is below 60dBuV.

  • Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, owing to its ability to provide atomic level information on molecular structure, dynamics and interaction, has become one of the most powerful methods in early drug discovery where hit finding and hit-to-lead generation are mainly pursued. In recent years, drug discovery programs originating from the fragment-based drug discovery (FBDD) strategies have been widely incorporated into academia and industry in which a wide variety of NMR methods become an indispensable arsenal to elucidate the binding of small molecules onto bimolecular targets. In this review, I briefly describe FBDD and introduce NMR methods mainly used in FBDD campaigns of my company. In addition, quality control of fragment library and practical NMR methods in industrial aspect are discussed shortly.

  • Marine diesel generator(D/G) set which is supported with resilient mounts for vibration isolation has been experienced the resonance problem by the main engine or propeller excitations and rigid body modes. Then the avoidance of resonance is difficult because the several excitations and 6 rigid body modes have to be considered simultaneously. In this paper, stiffness adjustable mounts was developed and proposed to control the natural frequencies of installed D/G set. Operating concept of the mount is that the total stiffness of mount can be changed according to the engagement of secondary rubber element in addition to primary one. The performance of mount was verified with the test rig and actual experiment in D/G set.

  • To control the position, velocity and torque of the ultrasonic motor, a great variety of method are proposed such as the amplitude, phase difference, frequency and so on. In the case of phase difference method, it has some advantages: it can control the direction and velocity of rotation only adjusting the phase difference and it has wide control-band. During the USM driving on adjusting phase difference, its characteristic was transformed by the change of resonance-frequency of stator, which means that the resonance frequency is different according to the phase difference. Consequently, we need to set up the most suitable driving frequency according to each phase difference.

  • A hybrid vibration control scheme using ER fluid and PZT patches is proposed. Dynamic characteristics of the beam embedded with the ER fluid can be controled by changing the strength of the electric field applied on the ER fluid, thus provides a mean to avoid the resonance. It was found that active vibration control of the structure embedded with ER fluid failed to suppress the vibration excited with broad band frequency due to the limited change of the dynamic characteristics of the structure. To compensate this limited effect of the control scheme with ER fluid alone, PPF control using PZT patches as sensors and actuators is added to construct a hybrid controller. Experimental results suggests that proposed hybrid controller is effective to suppress the additional resonance vibration that appears when each controller is used alone.

  • A novel resonance based proximity DC current sensor is proposed. The sensor consists of a piezo sensed and actuated cantilever beam with a permanent magnet mounted at its free end. When the sensor is placed in proximity to a wire carrying DC current, resonant frequency of the beam changes with change in current. This change in resonant frequency is used to determine the current through the wire. The structure is simulated in micro and meso scale using COMSOL Multi physics software and the sensor is found to be linear with good sensitivity.
