  • Purpose : The purpose of this study is to analysis effects of resistive exercise on cardiopulmonary fitness and cerebral artery blood flow velocity. Methods : Ten healthy university students had done resistive exercise without aerobic exercise over one year participated resistive exercise group and ten general university students, then were calculated oxygen consumption ($VO_2$) and respiratory exchange rate($VO_2/VCO_2$). After a week, they were measured Transcranial Doppler Ultrasonography(TCD) at moderate exercise(HRmax 50%), maximal exercise (HRmax 100%) for taking cerebral blood flow velocity. Results : In the comparison between groups, resistive exercise group showed significant higher oxygen consumption and lower respiratory exchange than controls(p<0.05). In resistive exercise group, oxygen consumption was significant negative correlation with cerebral artery pulsatory index(p<0.05). but, oxygen consumption was significant positive correlation with systolic blood flow velocity in controls(p<0.05). Conclusions : After considering all the factors, important value in resistive exercise is regular participation and help us increasing contingency response ability.

  • Purpose : This study was to investigate the effects of aerobic exercise and resistive exercise program on hypertension in the elderly. Methods : Subjects were allocated into one of three groups (aerobic exercise group, resistive exercise group, control group). Blood pressure was measured pre- and post-exercise in each exercise group. Data were analyzed with paired t-test and one-way ANOVA to determine blood pressure differences. Results : The results of this study were as follows. 1) The systolic blood pressure of the aerobic exercise group decreased significantly after exercise (p<.05). 2) The diastolic blood pressure of the resistive exercise group decreased significantly after exercise (p<.05). 3) There was a significant decrease in systolic blood pressure of aerobic exercise group compared with control group following the exercise. 4) There was no significant differences in diastolic blood pressure among three groups following the exercise (p>.05). Conclusion : Aerobic exercise and resistive exercise program were effective in reducing systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure of the hypertension in the elderly. Thus, this program can be recommended as an effective intervention for the elderly. Therefore, regular and continued those exercises will be the solution for decreasing systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure.

  • Resistive therapeutic exercise prescription goal is to improve functional performance and capabilities through the development of increased muscular strengh endurance or power. Resistance can be applied to either dynamic or static muscle contractions. Resistive therapeutic exorcise can be carried nut concentrically, eccentrically, isometrically, isokinetically. Neurodevelopmental treatment has not resistive therapeutic exercise concept. But proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitate techniques have resistive therapeutic exercise concept with pattens and techniques. It is aid muscle contraction, motor control and increase strength. Manual muscle testing will help the therapist establish a qualitative and quantitative baseline level of strength. Manual resistance maybe applied a against controlled lengthening contraction re static contraction of a muscle. A repetition maximum is not easy to calculate and is not the most accurate method available today to measure strength before of after a resistive therapeutic exercise program. Oddvar Holten Diagram is essy to calculate and is the most accurate method available today to measure strength before of after a resistive therapeutic exercise program. Plyometric training emphasize the development of muscular power and coordination. Quick bursts of force in functional movement patterns are often necessary of a patient is to return to high-demand occupational, recreational or sports related activities.

  • In this paper, we propose a method of analyzing exercise behavior to increase health care and exercise effect in personal fitness. In this study, a user wears a band-shaped acceleration sensor, an angular velocity sensor, and a motion sensor equipped with a geomagnetic module. Using the technique presented in this paper, we analyzed the motion of three resistive exercises which is consistent with previous studies. We have acquired a technique for processing personalized exercise information from the data generated in the resistive exercise situation.

  • Objective : This study aims to examine how lumbar stabilization exercise and resistive exercise affect lumbar and lower extremity muscular strength of the aged. Method : Randomly selected 15 female senior citizens aged 65 or older at S, Y, and J senior citizens' center located in D city who meet the requirements for the study were divided into a resistive exercise group of 7 and a stabilization exercise group of 8 for which 60-minute-exercise sessions were administered three times a week for 12 weeks. Measuring lumbar and lower extremity muscular strength was measured six weeks and 12 weeks after exercise, respectively. Results : First, both resistive exercises and stabilization exercises are effective to improve lumbar muscular strength. Second, resistive exercise is effective to improve flexural muscle strength as well as lower extremity muscular strength, and stabilization exercise is effective for both flexion and extensor muscle strength. Conclusion : The 12 week lumbar stabilization exercise program appeared to be effective to improve lumbar and lower extremity muscular strength of the aged. This indicates that applying this program to identify and prevent frequent risk factors of falling can lead to the prevention of secondary problem factors of falling accidents.

  • Background: This study aimed to investigate the effect of modified constraint-induced movement therapy (mCIMT) and resistive exercise using elastic band with pressure belt on improving upper extremity function in stroke patients. Methods: Sixteen patients with stroke were randomly assigned to a control group that received mCIMT and resistive exercise using elastic band (n=8) and an experimental group that received mCIMT and resistive exercise using elastic band with pressure belt (n=8). Over the course of four weeks, mCIMT were conducted 60 minute three times per week and resistive exercise using elastic band (with pressure belt) were conducted twice daily, three times per week. The function of the upper extremities were evaluated before, after 2 weeks and 4 weeks using the grip strength test (GST), the box and block test (BBT), and motor activity log (MAL). Results: The values for the GST, the BBT, and MAL increased in both groups as the treatment period progressed. The values for the GST (p<.01), the BBT (p<.001), and MAL (p<.001) were significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group at 4 weeks after initiating the treatment. Conclusion: We found that mCIMT and wearing a pressure belt during resistive exercise was very useful in improving the function of the upper extremities in patients with stroke.

  • [Purpose] The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships between muscle mass, muscle strength, and physical and cognitive functions and to examine the effects of resistive Theraband® exercise on sarcopenia-associated variables in the older population. [Methods] A total of 28 elderly women (age: 69.90 ± 0.8 years) participated in this study, 15 of whom underwent elastic band exercise for 1 hour per day, twice per week for 8 weeks. The correlation analysis was conducted to identify the associations between body composition, skeletal muscle mass indices, grip strength, and physical and cognitive functions. All variables were assessed at baseline and post-exercise. [Results] Skeletal muscle mass was significantly associated with grip strength and physical function. Gait speed was positively correlated with grip strength and physical function, but not with cognitive function. Theraband® exercise significantly improved gait speed and physical function. [Conclusion] The present data suggest that skeletal muscle mass is highly correlated with grip strength and physical function. Eight weeks of resistive Theraband® exercise favorably affects sarcopenia by improving gait speed and mobility of elderly women.
