In order to perform leak-before-break design of nuclear piping systems and integrity evaluation of reactor vessels, full stress-strain curves and fracture resistance (J-R) curves are required. However it is time-consuming and expensive to obtain J-R curves experimentally. The objective of this paper is to modify two J-R curve prediction methods previously proposed by the authors and to propose an additional J-R curve prediction method for nuclear piping materials. In the first method which is based on the elastic-plastic finite element analysis, a blunting region handling procedure is added to the existing method. In the second method which is based on the empirical equation, a revised general equation is proposed to apply to both carbon steel and stainless steel. Finally, in the third method, both full stress-strain curve and finite element analysis results are used for J-R curve prediction. A good agreement between the predicted results based on the proposed methods and the experimental ones is obtained.
This study was compared the degree of consolidation by Hyperbolic, Curve fitting, Asaoka's, Monden's methods using measured value with theoretical curve in consideration of smear effect and well resistance. The results of the study were summarized as follows ; 1. The degree of consolidation by Hyperbolic method was underestimated than the degree of consolidation by Curve fitting, Asaoka's, and Monden's methods. 2. Typical range of horizontal coefficient of consolidation was $C_h=(2{\sim}3)C_v$ in the case considering smear effect and well resistance, and $C_h=(0.5{\sim}2.5)C_v$ in the case disregarding smear effect and well resistance. 3. The degree of consolidation obtained by ground settlement monitoring was nearly same value when the coefficient of permeability of smear zone by back analysis was shown the half that of in-situ and the diameter of smear zone was shown double that of mendrel. 4. Increasing of diameter reduction ratio of drain, the time of consoildation was delayed. The affection of well resistance the case of small coefficient of permeability was much more than that in the case of large coefficient of permeability. It was recommended that design of diameter reduction of drain consider smear effect and well resistance.
Melting curve analysis of fluorescently labeled DNA fragments is used extensively for genotyping single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP). Here, we evaluated a SNP genotyping method by melting curve analysis with the two probe chemistries in a 384-well plate format on a Roche LightCycler 480. The HybProbe chemistry is based on the fluorescence resonance energy transfer(FRET) and the SimpleProbe chemistry uses a terminal self-quenching fluorophore. We evaluated FRET HybProbes and SimpleProbes for two SNP sites closely linked to two quantitative trait loci(QTL) for southern root-knot nematode resistance. These probes were used to genotype the two parents and 94 $F_2$ plants from the cross of PI 96354$\times$Bossier. The SNP genotypes of all samples determined by the LightCycler software agreed with previously determined SSR genotypes and the SNP genotypes determined on a Luminex 100 flow cytometry instrument. Multiplexed HybProbes for the two SNPs showed a 98.4% success rate and 100% concordance between repeats two of the same 96 DNA samples. Also, we developed a HybProbe assay for the Rcs3 gene conditioning broad resistance to the frogeye leaf spot(FLS) disease. The LightCycler 480 provides rapid PCR on 384-well plate and allows simultaneous amplification and analysis in approximately 2 hours without any additional steps after amplification. This allowed for a reduction of the potential contamination of PCR products, simplicity, and enablement of a streamlined workflow. The melting curve analysis on the LightCycler 480 provided high-throughput and rapid SNP genotyping and appears highly effective for marker-assisted selection in soybean.
Recently, offshore wind farms are increasingly expected, because there are huge resource and large site in offshore. Jeju island has optimum condition for constructing a wind energy farm. Unlike the mainland, Jeju island has stratified structure distribution between rock layers sediments due to volcanic activation. In these case, it can be occur engineering problems in whole structures as well as the safety of foundation as the thickness and distribution of sediment under top rock layer can not support sufficiently the structure. In this study, field lateral load test of the pile for analyzing lateral behavior of the offshore wind turbine which is embedded in basalt. After calculating the subgrade resistance and the horizontal deflection from the measured strain to derive p-y curve from the lateral load test results, the subgrade resistance amplifies the error in the process of differentiation and the error of piecewise polynomial curve fitting is the smallest. In order to calculate the horizontal deflection from the measured strain, the six-order polynomial was used.
The fracture resistance curve is one of most important and design techniques employed in nuclear pressure vessel structures. This study is to evaluate the J-R curve characteristics for the SA508C-3 by the unloading compliance method and load rato analysis. The effect of strain aging for the exponential correlation of the J-R curve in this metal are investigated at room temperature, 20$0^{\circ}C$ and 30$0^{\circ}C$. The load ratio analysis method can evaluate the J-R curve by using the simple tension load-displacement curve only without the repeat of the unloading and loading. Therefore, the analysis by the proposed load ratio method has a merit, in comparison with the unloading compliance method, which can measure the crack length without the precision measurement equipment.

This paper presents a method to minimize Life-Cycle Cost(LCC) of steel box girders. The LCC function considered in this paper includes initial cost, expected life-cycle maintenance cost and repair cost. A resistance force curve is derived from a condition grade curve of steel girders and optimal design of steel box girders is performed on the basis of derived resistance force curve. Also, in this paper annual costs of various case in LCC are compared and analyzed. It is concluded that the optimal design of steel box girders considering LCC by a presented method will lead to more economical and safer girders than conventional design.
The advance in technology of the CWR in Korea has led the establishment of the CWR on the sharp curve (i.e. less than R=600m). As thermit welding used in the sharp-curved construction site is carried out on the curve track, it is difficult to adjust a curve shape accurately and these difficulties have occurred in a number of cases. Therefore, in this study, the lateral buckling analysis of CWR track was carried out considering the actual ballast resistance force. In addition, the cant and vertical resistance force in ballast was considered in order to predict the initial behaviour of bucking in track under the more accurate method.

In order to perform elastic-plastic fracture mechanical analyses, fracture resistance curves for concerned materials are required. The unloading compliance method and the DCPD(Direct Current Potential Drop) method have been widely used for measuring the crack length and the extension for a standard specimen fracture resistance curve test. However it is difficult to apply the unloading compliance method to a real pipe fracture resistance curve test. The objective of this paper is to propose the calibration equation between the normalized crack length and the normalized electric potential, and to apply to pipe fracture experiments. For these, finite element analyses were performed with various current input locations and crack front configurations. Also the 4-point bending jig was manufactured for a pipe test and the DCPD method was used to measure crack extensions and crack lengths for a pipe test. The calculated crack length by the DCPD method agreed with the measured crack length within 5% error.

The shape of K-R curve for an ideally brittle material is flat because the surface energy is an unvaried material property. However, the K-R curve can take on a variety of shapes when nonlinear material behavior accompanies fracture. By the way, a general metallic material is nonlinear, structural steel is such. Therefore, the J-R curve form J-integral value instead of K parameters can be used to evaluate elastic-plastic materials with flaws in terms of ductile fracture that can be significant to design. In this paper, R-curve behaviors form K and J parameter is considered for the precise assessment of fracture analysis, in case of JS-SS400 steels.
R-curve, of three kinds of silicon nitride-based ceramics were measured, using single edge notched beam (SENB) method at room and at elevated temperatures, up to $1200^{\circ}C$. Stable fraacture was seen on ceramic materials with SENB specimens if the machined notch is deep enough, even though the crack resistance did not increase with crack length. Hot pressed silicon nitride did not show the rising R-curve behavior at room temperature, but it showed some rising at $1000^{\circ}C$ and above. Si3N4 reinforced with SiC whiskers showed no rising behavior at room and elevated temperatures, as it has smaller grain size, compare to the monolithic specimen. Gas pressure sintered silicon nitride had very large and elongated grains, and it showed rising R-curve even at room temperature. However, it showed some creep behavior at $1200^{\circ}C$ and the calculated R-curve on this condition did not show a good result. We cannot apply this technique on this condition for obtaining the R-curve.
