Microwave digestion and solid-state extraction were studied for determination of trace aluminum{Al(III)} in human urine samples. A mixed acid of nitric acid and hydrogen peroxide was added to urine samples, organic materials were destructed in a home microwave oven and dried in a drying oven. The dried residues were dissolved in a sulfuric acid solution. The solution was eluted through a XAD-4 resin column adsorbed with 8-hydroxyquinoline(Oxine, HQ). Al(III)-8-hydroxyquinolinate complex was formed in the column and eluted with 0.5 M nitric acid solution. The Al(III) eluted was determined by graphite atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Various experimental conditions of followings were investigated for the optimization : the type of acid to dissolve the residues, the amount of HQ adsorbed on the resin, the pH of sample solutions, the type and concentration of acid to elute the complex from column and so on. The contents of Al(III) in real samples were determinated by a calibration curve method. The recovery in standard spiked samples was 94~101% and the detection limit of this procedure was 0.05 ng/mL.
Organic residues analysis is an analysis method that reveals the types of organic material samples by using the characteristic that main components constituting substances are different depending on the species of animals and plants. In this study, scientific analysis of the organic residues attached to wood coffins in the Joseon Dynasty Hoemyo excavated from the site of Singok-dong, Uijeongbu was used to identify the types of remnants and to use them as information to restore the uses of organic materials and the way they lived in the past. As a result of FT-IR analysis of the residue attached to the inside of the wood, it was estimated to be a natural plant resin material. In addition, as a result of analysis by GC-MS to confirm the characteristic factors of natural resins, diterpenoids (abietane) and pimaran (pimarane), such as dehydroabietic acid and pimaric acid (diterpenoid) compounds, and saturated and unsaturated fatty acid components were detected together. Diterpenoid compounds are components mainly found in Pinaceae resins. It is confirmed in the literature that rosin, a representative material of Pinaceae resin, was used as an adhesive material. Considering the situation where an organic material remained at the joint of the wood, the organic material attached to the wood is judged to be an adhesive material made of Pinaceae resin. In addition, the fatty acid component detected together is a component derived from plant oil, and it is presumed to be made by mixing rosin and oil as recorded in previous studies. This study confirms that organic residues remain in the burial environment without losing their characteristics. It is expected that scientific analysis of organic residues will be conducted in the future to accumulate information necessary for the interpretation of past living culture.
Oligomerization of isobutene has been investigated using a few solid acid catalysts in order to produce efficiently triisobutenes that are useful chemical feedstocks for heavy alkylates and neo-acids. Several reaction conditions such as space velocity and isobutene concentration are evaluated, and a few cation exchange resins with various acid capacities were compared in the reaction. High trimers selectivity and high conversion can be obtained over a catalyst containing high acid capacity at low space velocity and relatively low isobutene concentration. The stability of a catalyst for the reaction is high when the acid capacity of the catalyst is high (for example Amberlyst-35).
Pharmacolinetic profiles of omeprazole enteric coated granules including Ramezole$^\circledR$, Losec$^\circledR$, omeprazole-Na and omeprazole-resin salt were studied using the crossover design in rats and rabbits. The absorption variance of the preparations at the altered pH condition of the gastrointestinal tract was also studied. After oral administration of four omeprazole enteric coated pellets (10mg/kg) with and without concomitant administration NaHCO$_{3}$ (5 mg/ml, 60 mM) in the rats, the differences of absorplion rate and extent were evaluated. In the NaHCO$_{3}$, administration group, the T$_{max}$ appeared to be 2~10 times shorter than water administration group, and the $C_{max}$ also increased to about 4 times, and the AUC increased to about 2.5 times. Pharmacokinetic parameters of four omeprazole enteric coated pellets in rats showed no statistical significance (ANOVA, P>0.05) in both groups. In the crossover study, the second dosed drug showed 4~5 times increased bioavailability than first dosed drug, which shows the strong carry-over effect of acid secretion of the first dosed drug. The differences of the pharmacokinetic parameters of the two test formulations (Losec$^\circledR$ and omeprazole-resin) showed no statistical significance.

This study introduces the development of new supercritical water oxidation(SCW)(multiple step oxidation) to destruct recalcitrant organic substances totally and safely by using sodium nitrate as an oxidant. This method has solved the problems of conventional SCW, such as precipitation of salt due to lowered permittivity, pressure increase following rapid rise of reaction temperature, and corrosion of reactor due to the generation of strong acid. Destruction condition and rate in the supercritical water were examined using Polyvinyl Chloride(PVC) and ion exchange resins as organic substances. The experiment was carried out at $450^{\circ}C$ for 30min, which is relatively lower than the temperature for supercritical water oxidation $(600-650^{\circ}C)$. The decomposition rates of various incombustible organic substances were very high [PVC$(87.5\%)$, Anion exchange resin$(98.6\%)$, Cationexchange resin$(98.0\%)$]. It was observed that hetero atoms existed in organic compounds and chlorine was neutralized by sodium (salt formation). However, relatively large amount of sodium nitrate (4 equivalent) was required to raise the decomposition ratio. For complete oxidation of PCB was intended, the amount of oxidizer was an important parameter.
Objectives: This study aims to assess the effect of universal adhesives pretreatment on the bond strength of resin-modified glass ionomer cement to dentin. Materials and Methods: Fifty caries-free human third molars were employed. The teeth were randomly assigned into five groups (n = 10) based on dentin surface pretreatments: Single Bond Universal (3M Oral Care), Gluma Bond Universal (Heraeus Kulzer), Prime&Bond Elect (Dentsply), Cavity Conditioner (GC) and control (no surface treatment). After Fuji II LC (GC) was bonded to the dentin surfaces, the specimens were stored for 7 days at 37℃. The specimens were segmented into microspecimens, and the microspecimens were subjugated to microtensile bond strength testing (1.0 mm/min). The modes of failure analyzed using a stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscopy. Data were statistically analyzed with one-way analysis of variance and Duncan tests (p = 0.05). Results: The surface pretreatments with the universal adhesives and conditioner increased the bond strength of Fuji II LC to dentin (p < 0.05). Single Bond Universal and Gluma Bond Universal provided higher bond strength to Fuji II LC than Cavity Conditioner (p < 0.05). The bond strengths obtained from Prime&Bond Elect and Cavity Conditioner were not statistically different (p > 0.05). Conclusions: The universal adhesives and polyacrylic acid conditioner could increase the bond strength of resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) to dentin. The use of universal adhesives before the application of RMGIC may be more beneficial in improving bond strength.
In order to know the effect of dentin bonding agents on the restoration of cervical abrasion, Scotchbond Multipurpose Single Bond and Clearfil Liner Bond 2 were used in 51 teeth with abrasion lesion and normal teeth. The surface structure and dentinal tubules of acid etched dentin and resin replica were examined using scanning electron microscopy. The interfacial morphology between dentin and adhesives was investigated by confocal laser scanning microscopy. Following results were obtained. 1. The hybrid layer and resin tag of the dentin showing cross-sectional surface of dentinal tubules are thicker and longer than those of dentin showing oblique surface of dentinal tubules. 2. The sclerotic cast was frequently observed in dentinal tubule, and the cast looked like cuboidal or rhomboidal-shaped crystals clumped from outer side to inner side. 3. The formation of hybrid layer and resin tag was the most prominent in Scotchbond Multipurpose group, whereas Clearfil Liner Bond 2 group showed very poor formation. The formation of hybrid layer and resin tag in Single Bond group was less than Scotchbond Multipurpose group.
Lactic acid was reacted with alcohol into lactate ester, and lactate ester produced in esterification reaction was distilled simultaneously with hydrolysis reaction into lactic acid. When the yields of lactic acid recovered by batch reactive distillations with various alcohols were compared, the yield of lactic acid was increased as the volatility of lactate ester was increased. In this batch reactive distillation, because the mixtures condensed in partial condensor were flown to reboiler through distillation column, the recovery yield of lactic acid was affected by operation temperature of partial condensor. Hydrolysis reaction into lactic acid in distillation column rarelyoccurred because of short retention time of lactate ester and water. Lactate ester was reacted into lactic acid in reboiler.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of acid treatment of fluoride applied dentin surface with various concentrations of phosphoric acid for various periods of time on dentin bonding. Dentin specimens prepared from freshly extracted bovine mandibular anterior teeth were divided into fluoridated and nonfluoridated groups. Specimens of nonfluoridated group were pretreated with 10% phosphoric acid for 15 seconds. Those of fluoridated groups were treated with 2% sodium fluoride or 2% stannous fluoride solution for 5 minutes and stored in $37^{\circ}C$ distilled water for 3 days, followed by phosphoric acid treatment. The concentrations of phosphoric acid were 10%, 32% or 50% and the treatment periods of time were 15, 30 or 60 seconds. All the specimens were bonded with All Bond$^{(R)}$ 2 and Bisfil$^{TM}$ composite resin. After bonded specimens were stored in $37^{\circ}C$ distilled water for 24 hours, tensile bond strengths of each specimens were measured and the pretreated dentin and the fractured dentin surfaces were examined under the scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows : The tensile bond strengths from the fluoridated groups were significantly lower than those from the nonfluoridated group when the concentrations of phosphoric acid and the treatment periods of time were equal in all the groups (p<0.05). In general, the higher the concentration of phosphoric acid and the longer the treatment period of time for acid etching on the fluoride applied dentin surface, the higher were the bond strength values. Recovery of bond strength of the dentin bonding agent was better in the NaF applied group than in the $SnF_2$ applied one. SEM findings of NaF applied and $SnF_2$ applied dentin surfaces demonstrated reaction product-covered and partially or completely obstructed dentinal tubules. SEM findings of dentin surfaces fluoridated for 5 minutes followed by etching showed wider tubular openings and more clean dentin surfaces when dentin was etched with higher concentration of phosphoric acid for longer period of time. On the SEM observations of the fractured dentin-resin interface, the etched specimens of fluoridated group showed an adhesive failure mode when the concentration of phosphoric acid and the treatment period of time were same as in the nonfluoridated group. As the concentration of phosphoric acid and the treatment period of time increase during acid etching, the cohesive failure area increased. However, excessive acid etching caused adhesive failure.
Molecularly imprinting technology is an effective method to prepare a synthetic material with a high selectivity to a target molecule. In this study, a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was synthesized via UV-polymerization using theophylline and UV-curable polyester-acrylate resin as a template molecule and a crosslinker, respectively. To elucidate the effects of functional monomer type on the performance of the MIP, each MIP was synthesized using mathacrylic acid, acrylic acid, and acryl amide as functional monomers. Each MIP showed higher rebinding capacity to theophylline than its corresponding non-imprinted polymer (NIP). The MIP synthesized using mathacrylic acid as a functional monomer showed the highest rebinding capacity to theophylline. The selectivity of the MIP was investigated using a solution with caffeine having a very similar structure to theophylline. The binding performance of the MIP to theophylline decreased when distilled water was used as a solvent, which has more polarity than chloroform.
